Ads on the forum, new thread to avoid necro

I don't know if this is the place to mention this, but since we are discussing [REMOVED], I thought I'd ask if any thought has been given to monetizing the forum. I wouldn't be put out by a banner ad on or two here, and based on page loads and the like, I spend way more time poking around on here than I do on the actual Goblins page. I know the forum is somewhat separate from the main site, so there may be some difficulties in implementing it, but has this been discussed?

The idea was floated a while back, but didn't get much traction, as I recall.

I too would have no issue with a Google ad bar in here.

I three. I'd be fine with a few (non-sound, ugh) ad banners around for THunt's sake, and it's true the forums get a lot more visits day by day than the Goblins home page.

DEFINITELY not with sound. Personally, I visit the forum probably between 10-20 times a day, and each time, I'm loading up at least a few pages between reading and posting. I visit the goblins main site probably closer to 3-5 times a day (that's averaged out... peaks on days that Thunt is posting and I check a lot more). Way more eyeballs on ads here...

I'd like to point out that this discussion, while interesting and potentially helpful, is entirely off topic here. Also, not many people read this subforum. It's a highly self-selected subgroup of the larger boards, not a representative sample.

True. As I said when I brought it up, this thread may not be the best place for it, but since it relates to [removed], I figured I'd mention it here since the people reading this thread are among those most interested in [removed]. I figured if it warranted it, a mod would move it elsewhere.

Me neither.
Especially google-ads would be nice, as they are text-based, and as such have low loading times.

I know that Moose is busy, he always wanted to implement a link from the forum top bar to the comic.
Currently, there isn't even a forum-generated link back to the comic. Only post-related links.

This takes time and effort to implement, and we would need THunt's approval to implement google-ads here, as he would have to run it on his account.
And I don't know about his contracts with Hiveworks. Can he even sell Google-ads?
Does Hiveworks sell text-based ads?

A non-animated image would be fine too.
