I was unaware of that. I knew that the absolute basic concept was similar, but I did not know that he was actually inspired by Elfquest.
And I got hooked on Elfquest from the physical copies that my dad owns from when he was younger.

Re: Other Webcomics & the Webcomicverse
Hmm... I'd have to recommend a few. For example:
Namesake: It's one of the few new takes on fairy tales that I actually enjoy.
http://namesakecomic.com/
Litbrick: Basically, it's commentary (in comics) on classic works of literature. And It's hilarious.
http://litbrick.com/
Supernormal Step:
Sci-fi/fantasy. Interesting plot, constantly improving art, and a curse that turns you into a plushie for doing evil.
http://supernormalstep.com/
But my newest comic would be "Not a Villain", which is a science fiction-ish comic, slightly reminiscent of a cross between the Matrix and the Hunger Games. It's fun, and makes for an entertaining archive binge.
http://inkoutbreak.com/inker.php?comic= ... bf116cdf1c
I would say that all of these are safe for work.

Mega Necro B.M.U.P.
There is a webcomic with a bit of manga-stlye which has a plenty of mythical humanoids (vampires, demons, succubi, werewolves, etc.), with an appropiately dark and funny tone. The protagonist is a young girl, who has no idea what's going on around her.
The comic is dream*scar, and I suggest to read it if you are in the right mindset.
I'm posting this because the creator has just made a trailer video for the comic to lure in more readers, and I think it's pretty good.
Here is the video.

Re: Other Webcomics & the Webcomicverse
Recently discovered an amusingly odd superhero comic: Grrl Power. Updates are frustratingly slow, and the protagonist's wackiness gets on my nerves quite a bit, and there's depressingly little information about most of the other characters. But it has its moments.
For those who are comfortable with NSFW content, I highly recommend Future Pig. Pavel is a real artist's artist who creates extremely trippy stuff. Updating is incredibly slow, sometimes only one comic a year, but definitely check it out. There's some incredible philosophy mixed in there along with the hero's badassery and light comedy. (Be aware that the pages are HUGE.)
Sadly another of my favorites seems to have died..."The Pain: When Will It End" is "Temporarily unavailable". I hope the "temporary" part isn't a scurrilious lie, but the author's feedback line is unable to receive emails due to being "over quota", so it's not looking good. (In the event that this does come back up and someone Googles it, be aware that it's also NSFW.)
And lastly, an extremely niche comic about Lovecraft which, frankly, isn't that good, but I enjoy checking in on it every now and again; sometimes it's worth a small chuckle at least. The Unspeakable Vault (Of Doom)

Because of the fact that this excellent comic have recently ended I'm gonna recommend it to you guys. Set in Victorian Era Britain, it is a tale of slaughter, sarcasm and sex. Amazing read!

Re: Other Webcomics & the Webcomicverse
Another gaming comic: I'm not claiming it's a great work of art, but "Larp Trek" pretty consistently gets actual LOLs from me with the surprise gags. I'm not claiming to be sophisticated. It's the crew of ST:TNG circa the third season playing an RPG while the holodecks are down, with Geordi as the GM and playing through episodes of DS9 (which is in their future and hasn't happened yet). Technically a screencap comic, but just headshots of the characters to go along with the dialog. The latest DS9 episode starts at http://larptrek.com/larptrek/125-labor-day-hangover/ if you just want a taste of the wackiness. Oh, TNG Miles is playing DS9 Keiko, and TNG Keiko is playing DS9 Miles. Don't miss the image alt-text either.

I think you have an "i" too many in that word. Yeah, I'm following it too, it's pretty cool. I think I may have read the Sandra & Woo too at some point but wasn't that amused by that. Nevertheless, Gaia is really good! Fantasy / magic lovers should definitely check it out.Arydra wrote:I have been reading Giaia recently and I very much enjoyed it.

Planescape Survival Guide: http://planescapecomic.com/1.html
Your basic plane spanning, epic, multiverse saving, d&d adventure.
The Flying Cloud: http://airships.paulgazis.com/001/FlyingCloud001.htm
It is not a webcomic... it has 1 picture at the top of each chapter, and is basicaly a text story, but boy is it a good read. Airship travel in the south pacific in an alternate history, with conspirasies and the odd nod to Cthulu.

I found two other webcomics that I like and now check regularly. They are Flaky Pastry and Leftover Soup. I ended up being linked over to both of these comics from Grrl Power, which was already mentioned here.

Re: Other Webcomics & the Webcomicverse
I suggest a strange mix of fantasy and high science with Nimona - I devoured quite amiably the archive recently and had a jolly good time reading it all. There are some clever things there, and in some ways, i cant call it an entirely safe for work webcomic - it's mostly safe, but there are implied sexuality matters that are ... ah hang it, changed my mind - its' safe for work. It's all sharks, kittens and cross dressing dragons ok ... what's wrong about that eh?
The website it's hosted at is here :
The website it's hosted at is here :
Lord Ballister Blackheart has a point to make, and his point is that the good guys aren't as good as they seem. He makes a comfortable living as a supervillain, but never really seems to accomplish much - until he takes on a new sidekick, Nimona, a shapeshifter with her own ideas of how things should be done. Unfortunately, most of those ideas involve blowing things up. Now Ballister must teach his young prot├®g├® some restraint and try to keep her from destroying everything, while simultaneously attempting to expose the dark dealings of those who claim to be the protectors of the kingdom - including his former best friend turned nemesis, Ambrosius Goldenloin.
NIMONA updates twice-weekly, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is slated for publication by HarperCollins in 2015. It has been nominated for a Harvey award for Best Online Comics Work, was named one of io9's top ten Best New and Short Webcomics of 2012, and has been awarded the Cartoonist Studio Prize for Best Webcomic of 2012 by Slate Magazine and the Center for Cartoon Studies.

That's a good one.
You posting a link reminded me of one I forgot to post.
Ava's Demon is a nice comic, featuring hi-tech setting with addition of mysterions and magical elements.

I've been doing some intense archive binging in Freefall - the one with a planet of intelligent creative robots designed by a mysterious doctor Bowman where the central characters are a squid in a containment suit and an evolved uplifted wolf ...It's been an awesome ride for the last 12 years, it's gotta be one of the longest running webcomics on the planet now - only 3 panels a day and often with a gag in them ... but the overarching thematic exploration in Freefall is magnificent.
Such an awesome moment reached recently.

Please do yourself a favour, and binge for 30 min a day until you have caught up ...

Yes, they screwed up with the forum, but we've learned our lesson and got a new home for that. They also pay THunt's bills.
I thought that the fiasco with Blind Ferret ended with THunt and Goblins parting ways with B.F. and host with another company? B.F. no longer has Goblinscomic on it's list of clients...

WTF Comics is based on Everquest, so it qualifies as a Gaming Comic. Unfortunately, it updates more or less at random, once in a blue moon, but other than that it's fairly good.
There are worlds out there where the sky is burning...where the seas sleep and the rivers dream. People made of smoke, and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger. Somewhere there's injustice. Lots of good ones mentioned already, so I'll skip them if already mentioned.
6-Commando: Future/alternate timeline World War III onset; updates weekly
Ctrl+Alt+Del: Really surprised this wasn't on the list yet; mostly computer gaming related, but occasionally does DnD stuff, too; updates M-W-F
/gu comics: One of the first I started reading regularly; originally started as an EverQuest-related comic, but has since gone in various (typically gaming) related directions; updates somewhat irregularly
The Airship Flying Cloud, R-505: Not a true webcomic, per se, as it's mostly text; still worth a read if you appreciate tongue-in-cheek, dry humor, set in an alternate timeline
