Things You Never Noticed Before
Alright, everyone seems to be doing their part to rebuild the forums, so I'll do what little I can.
Just a simple place to post when you realize the hidden little bits and pieces hidden throughout Goblins. A lot of older forumites have seen many a thing before, but we need to rebuild our list so please don't hesitate to post. This was my favorite thread on the old forum. I was honestly sad when it dropped off my "Most active topic" link.
I'll start us off with the post that got me to break the lurk and join the old forum. Still one of my proudest moments on there. I hope you do the same and share all your insights.
All non-humanoid chiefs have a mark over their right eye
Chief http://www.goblinscomic.com/02102006/
Duv http://www.goblinscomic.com/08282006/
Borrl http://www.goblinscomic.com/11082006/
This Dude http://www.goblinscomic.com/06102006/ (he had the best armor by far, fair bet for chief)
Chief Kills-A-Werebear http://www.goblinscomic.com/01142006/
Which brings interesting ideas to the mirror(ish) image in this one (final two panels) http://www.goblinscomic.com/09242005/ (rightful chief vs actual chief)
And to what this moment could mean/foreshadow http://www.goblinscomic.com/12172010/

The last one brings up an interesting point, especially given that the sacrificial blood glowed when applied to Dies.

Seeing this, I wonder if there isn't more to Minmax's scar being over his right eye than coincidence. Thanks to Complains, he has a scar resembling cheifly markings. I know it's bizarre, but Minmax as the new cheif? Would be a wild twist.

Every time that last page is shown I know what it is, and I always have to look. It's so sad, but I have to look. Why do you have to torture me like that!

Re: Things You Never Noticed Before
One thing I loved discovering was Thunt's use of signs and other lettering on the background scenery, to state something about the moment. For example...
If you use Complains' eyes, you can spell the word DOOM on the last panel of this page; http://www.goblinscomic.com/07162007/
Same room, same wall, only this time, in the span of two panels we see the phrase "We are in control" ironically super-titling a moment where Goblinslayer has completely lost control. http://www.goblinscomic.com/12042007/
My favorite one; the goblins have been deliberately placed so that the sign behind them reads "And he shall keep us safe, Goblin", in a moment where GAP is looking to Thaco for guidance and security. http://www.goblinscomic.com/07112008/
There may be more I haven't caught.

Re: Things You Never Noticed Before
Wow, I caught the Doom one, but I missed all of the others. Amazing. Then again if one of the popular theories are correct, then the Keeps Us Safe might be a reference to Complains, not Thaco.

That particular symbol is actually the symbol of the Cryptic Fall Clan.

The first panel on the next page has the "s" from "us" and the "s" from "safe" looking suspiciously like an SS symbol. http://www.goblinscomic.com/07122008/Daughter Of Yahweh wrote:My favorite one; the goblins have been deliberately placed so that the sign behind them reads "And he shall keep us safe, Goblin", in a moment where GAP is looking to Thaco for guidance and security. http://www.goblinscomic.com/07112008/

Re: Things You Never Noticed Before
I'm sure this must have been discussed before, but in the vein of repeated themes:
Not only do Minmax and Complains have identical IME's and IME color, but Pipemax has Complain's tattoo with scars. For whatever reason.
Pertinent post http://www.goblinscomic.com/08052011/
There must be some overly convoluted backstory explaining this. Twins separated at birth? Clones? Cloned twins?

I remember hearing that it is crossed out to signify that in this reality, he had killed Complains. I don't remember where I heard that though.

I think most of those stories THunt drops in Ustream, twitter, etc.
Does anyone know where the list of known MFK realities is online? My google-fu is failing me.

Hmm. Doesn't actually say anything about the crossed out Complains' Tattoo. But I too recall it being said that it was because he fulfilled the blood oath against Complains

Re: Things You Never Noticed Before
It was mentioned in previous forums, but Minmax 180 (http://www.goblinscomic.com/12092011-2/) carried a sword that was burned in Goblinslayer's home in our reality. (http://www.goblinscomic.com/02282007/)
Could this mean in reality 180 Goblinslayer didn't have the ability to grow a wooden sword?

I believe that is the Luck Blade. IIRC, it contains a Ring of Three Wishes.Davis8488 wrote:It was mentioned in previous forums, but Minmax 180 (http://www.goblinscomic.com/12092011-2/) carried a sword that was burned in Goblinslayer's home in our reality. (http://www.goblinscomic.com/02282007/)

This isn't exactly something about the comic, but I was trawling through the images yesterday, and...
Alicorn, rewriter of Twilight, strikes again! And is a fan!

Oh! It's been awhile since I actually found something new but I just did.
The Psimax Forgath had a LOT of swords and knifes
http://www.goblinscomic.com/02222011-2/
I wonder what class he was.

That page is so much awesome. And it provides me with several observations in line with this thread, of which the most obvious is this: I never previously "got" that the Axe of Prissan is the Axe of Prison, until comparing it with the Hammer of Jale.Alvarin wrote:http://duke.a-comics.ru/fmk/SccrD25 wrote:I think most of those stories THunt drops in Ustream, twitter, etc.

(Makes me wonder, we've got one alt-world where Minmax and Fogath are both paladins, and another where they're both antipaladins...are these based on favorable houserules which make Paladin a good class? Because 3.5 RAW, it most definitely is not worth multiclassing into, except just for the sake of doing it, and I doubt Minmax would ever do such a thing if he got no mechanical awesomeness out of it.)

It's just a very low powered world. The most dangerous member of the GAP is a monk, for goodness sake.willpell wrote:That page is so much awesome. Re: Things You Never Noticed Before
A monk who got to take Evasion as his second-level monk feat, even though that's not a legal choice per RAW. And for that matter a monk who ought to have age penalties to all his physical stats, but instead is clearly absurdly more dextrous than anyone else in the game. So it might be more that Thuntworld has strong monks than that it's weak in general. Plus the Axe of Prissan is certainly not weak - it seems as though Thunt likes having a lot of a character's power come in item form, since besides the axe there's also Chief's spear, the Shield of Wonder, and arguably Klik and Kills (they're creatures rather than objects, but still sort of qualify as items).Marnath wrote:It's just a very low powered world. We're not technically in 3.5, though. We're in 3.0 with a bit of 3.5, and the occasional shout out to 4.0.willpell wrote: 3.5 RAW
