Re: The gladiators!
Might as well finish this now...
Decided to pick the human template that only gives 2 +1's instead, in trade for the extra feat and proficiency... So in the end that makes for:
Name: Bort
Gender: male
Race: human
Stats:
STR: 14
DEX: 16
CON: 16
INT: 5
WIS: 9
CHA: 15
Extra feat: Dual wielder
Background: Entertainer (Acrobatics, performance) + bonus: persuasion
First class: Barbarian (Athletics, Perception)

Oh shush Badge, your stats will only make dying so much worse for you so no need to try penalize yourself for it
In other news, I've started the game and in an effort to not keep you too attached to the characters yet, I've just referred to your user names instead. Looking forward to see how this will play out and if I've made it too easy or too hard by limiting you to only four opponents.

Not sure if you were intending this as an OOC now, but what is the policy on dragonborn breath weapons?

Re: The gladiators!
Ahh yes the fabled bichrome dragonborn, blowing out fire in one and and shooting lightning with the other.
I've not thought much about an ooc thread but this will do and I can move it to the main part too.
As for your question I'll allow it to work just as first level character, but you don't have any proficiency bonus yet as the only difference.

Re: The gladiators!
If you feel like they fit in with what you want to do, then yes. This first fight I doubt that they'll become relevant but in the future you might want to do some taunting of your opponents or some other things in order to woo the crowd which may affect the combat (like you getting advantage due to the crowd cheering you on) or some other aspects in the future.

So what you're saying is, I should not try to roll animal handling to make all these dogs my pets?

Re: The gladiators! OOC
Ooooh, can I be one of the dogs? Would be so much easier than having to create a character. I really really suck at D&D rules, feats, races and whatnot.
And it might even help me with not missing "Snaps At Ankles" so much. Gosh, I miss that girl.

Gathers, meet the best solely online 5e character creator I've met to this date.

theis: As we are level 0, but we do have stats, would skills be straight stat checks, or include our 1st level point buys?
obviously this is all dependent on survival till my turn...yes.

Re: The gladiators! OOC
No dogs for yoooouu! I'm going to keep players equal for now and stick to the core material and perhaps the unearthed arcana additions after I've looked at them. 5e is a lot more straight forward than 3.5. There are only the features you get from your class you have to think about, granted every 4th level in a class you can opt to get a feat instead of improving your ability scores.
@badge I'm basically just treating you as a level 1 commoner character with no proficiencies so you only get proficiency bonus if you are proficient from your race or background. So in short most stuff is just your ability score modifier for now.

I've had a suspicion for a while, but I think half orcs might just be my favourite race in 5e

That's a pretty powerful ability especially in a game focused on combat so I wonder why more people haven't chosen it

Only reason I didn't pick half orc was because we already had one (two?) and didn't want to remove diversity...

We have 2 dragonborns but only one half orc I think. I appreciate your dedication to ensuring the gladiatorial arena achieves it's diversity targets though

If/When the time comes, do we need to reroll stats from nothing, or use the same ones we rolled?

You've still got 5 death saves ahead of you. As long as the mob doesn't want revenge, you could well still survive all this.

Hah, you think Maji (seeing as how all of his characters are evil) won't stab me the rest of the way to death...I think you're mistaken..
^And the only reason he might not now is because I'm calling him out for it.

Re: The gladiators! OOC Apply here for joining the fighting
You have to understand that when I make a character, I go all in..and if that means murdering a commoner because he thought that he was attacking his two-headed pet dog named snuffles but then discovers that it's not snuffles, because snuffles has a red spot on his chest and he feels kinda bad about it and goes to attack the dog, but sadly misses and then gets upset when the others attack him.....
I go all in...
And in the side of my mind, I'm already developing my next crazy character who will be something completely different...
This is how I work....I commit to the craziness of my characters and I don't do anything by halves.

That and you were the closest enemy I can get to. Also Maji might be evil but he wouldn't just stab someone while they are down....unless it's zyphyr and only if he can get away with itthinkslogically wrote:...dude... You murdered a guy who wasn't an enemy. What did you think was going to happen?

Re: The gladiators! OOC Apply here for joining the fighting
Oh looks like the halfling is gonna die too.
Also to comment on the "fists are not weapon" thing: I was trying to argue that my fist should be considered a weapon, and I could use them to dual wield thanks to my feat.
I could still make it work if I multiclass into monk, though, and rule my fists as my monk weapons- Combined with some barbarian and fighter levels, it sounds like an extremely dangerous combination...
You know, if I didn't roll horrible stats for Bort and actually had the 13 wis required to multiclass into monk.
