"So you choose to threaten us? That does not seem to be very diplomatic, espessialyl to those who wish to save the world, nay, universe. You will be affected as well. Now if you really wish to just talk, you will put down your runes without using them. Now if you wish not to be viewed as thigs, then you will not threaten us. Any of you. Besides, you do not wish to harm me, or my friends, we are simply trying to save the universe."
The man raises an eyebrow, his gaze at Cut making it doubtful whether she was "succesful" or not- However, the intended result at least is, as he "pockets" the rune- Albeit it would still only take a mere second to grab again.
"Fair enough dear. To be honest, I have no intention of actually hurting- Nor killing you. That, ah, would only be a... Last resort."
"Besides, as you seem aware, I have other means to grasp for first should we need to resort to violence." he says, a smirk once again playing on his lips.
Studies meanwhile, actually inspects the rune, and comes to a startling discovery- He could, of course, activate the rune without too much trouble. And if he did, any area of effect would
probably not reach them... But it would be something he needs not bother himself with- Because inspecting what the rune actually is, it seems the man is either ignorant or playing a bluff- Considering what the rune actually is, probably the latter.
For firstly, the rune does not actually affect an area. And secondly, it isn't even a dispel- Rather, it's a haste one.
Regardless, the goblins continue their "diplomacy"- Cut having succeeded in "disarming" the man, the others actually answer his "question".
"Personally, I think it was fair. As Orpheus pointed out, there was fault on both sides, but Triton was the one who was the aggressor, trying to make Everyone bend to his will with force."
"Also, we did try to solve the situation peacefully. Triton is the one who brought an army, and resorted to violence when negotiations failed - we were just defending ourselves. And if anything, Queen Nami and Orpheus were lenient in allowing him to live. Even if he might not think so...."
The man raises a brow, seemingly surprised with the answers. As his eye falls on Nami, who seems to be thinking a bit longer on the question.
"...Honestly? I wouldn't know. My... Mother would certainly agree with that he deserved it. But... Much as I hate to admit it... Her mind was addled. Left with so much anger and hate of being... Stuck for so long."
"And from what I heard... Many Atlantians seem to agree on that he was doing what was best for the people."
"The problem is though, what might have been best for the people might not be best for me. And he forced our hands. So... Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. Problem is, I don't think we had any other choice."
"Hmm. Yes, yes..." the man murmurs, seemingly considering something himself before he continues a second later.
"You know, I'm surprised to actually see such honesty. I was expecting you to go on a charade and consider me another one of Triton's followers. Might have been the smarter choice, even."
"But for what it's worth, your brutal honesty pays off. It was a trick question anyways. There was no right answer to that question. And you're right-" He says, addressing Nami, "It doesn't matter whether he deserved it or not. The problem is that you and him are not going to be able to work together. And considering that he would stop at nothing to stop YOU if he'd be free... My dear, you have no choice but to lock him up."
"The question whether that was the correct- Or even better choice when the man said he would rather die, is debatable... But not the matter of discussion."
"The matter of discussion is that now, with Triton gone, someone else needs to take the throne. And that's where we have our little problem... Because you see dear, you just don't fit that bill..."
"...And I'm guessing you would huh?"
"Me? Haha- No dear." the man says, chuckling.
"I'm just an old sea dog chasing catfish. I'm a soldier, no leader."
"But I do know this- There's going to be people that want that throne. There's also going to be a few who will stop at nothing to put Triton back there. And the obvious solution for all that to play out smoothly... Would be for you to die."
"Of course, that's no option. That would make the whole reason Triton even got in this predicament void."
"...Which is not saying some would be willing to go that far."
"To be honest dear, many people don't even care that much about this whole matter with Triton... For them, this is just an excuse to grab for that throne. And if it weren't for that trident you're holding there, they'd be far less subtle in that matter."
"I'm afraid I can guarantee you this... Blood is going to be need to be shed before this matter is settled."
The man frowns, seemingly thinking, staring to rocks at the side- Those who pay close attention able to see that he's checking the other merfolk, hidden behind them.
"...Another question. From the people you met so far- Who of them do you trust completely?"
