Thine Enchanted Vessel - A series of Mini-Challanges

Salaben the Small has always wanted to be a chef. Though wood elves are not typically known for their culinary expertise, eschewing most forms of cooking in favor of whole raw foods, Salaben knows in his heart of hearts that the path to freedom and happiness runs through the stomach. His stomach, actually. Salaben eats as much as a dwarf training to be in a marathon.

Unfortunately, cooking is one of those things that must be learned through a loving mixture of expert advice, doing, and trial and error. And despite having over 200 years of practice, it is very clear that Salaben isn't going to get any better without help. Salaben thus set out on a journey to get help to learn how to cook. He packed his bags, wished his family well, and walked for approximately six hours before running out of food and collapsing on the side of the road, famished.

A band of merchants happened to be passing by that day, and after a very large snack, sent him back home with another bag full of food, and a magic lamp, and a now-very-empty bag of coins. Upon reaching his home again, the very first thing Salaben wished for was a triple layer chocolate cake, studded with chunks of dark chocolate and dried cherries, topped with sweet whipped cream. After that though, the second thing he wished for was a magic cooking pot, capable of cooking ANYTHING.

And that is exactly what he got. It would seem that though this genie isn't outright malicious, he /is/ very literal. And thus when Salaben wished for a pot that could cook anything, the pot he got does not stop at stew. It also knows how to make furniture, weapons, and fancy jewelery. Throwing in two or more items usually causes them to combine. Last Tuesday, no less than fifteen halflings hopped out of the pot, though for the life of him, Salaben cannot figure out what he did to cause THAT to occur.

Today, however, Salaben has something special to create. His very best friend Galena has just turned 400, and as such, is now a fully fledged member of society. To celebrate this, the village is throwing a HUGE party in two days time, and must come up with the perfect gift to give her. Like most of his village, however, Galena doesn't much care for his heavily modified foodstuffs. She does like silk, spell books, bells, and spiders.

Salaben gets to work creating things. What to try... what to try...? The elf grabs an armful of stuff and starts stuffing random sets of items into the cauldron to see what pops up.

He starts by tossing an Essence of Magic along with a Silk Cloak.
► Show Spoiler
The runes glow gold, and Salaben pulls out a smoky grey wisp of what can only be described as pure silk essence.

A Tiny Diamond goes into the pot next, along with a set of special occasion clothing.
► Show Spoiler
Out comes a splended set of of clothes fit for a wealthy baron.

Salaben briefly considers putting in the Invitation to see what would happen, but thinks the better of it. Without that invitation, he won't be allowed to attend the celebration, and that would be terrible! He pauses a bit, pondering if he should really use two magically imbued items at the same time. Though the items created can be very powerful, the chances of failure are much higher. Still combine the the Sun Shaped Amulet and the Green Feather of the Jungle Kobold?

Rabbit slippers + essence of magic forget this nonsense. Instead try one piece of broken jewellery all by itself.

If there are tomatoes in the vegetables (I know, fruit, but hey), combine the green spidery lookin' bits on top with some broken jewellery to try to make a spider amulet? Or the cherry stalks with broken jewellery.

Tomatoes aren't root vegetables.

I know, but even among magical elves' culinary organisational skills aren't all they're cracked up to be :P

"Any domestic food store, raided furtively in the middle of the night, always contains, no matter what its daytime inventory, half a jar of elderly mayonnaise, a piece of very old cheese, and a tomato with white mould growing on it" ~ Mort

Combine the clothes of the baron with the essence of silk. Cross fingers and hope it turns out fit for females, too.

Also, just because I want to know the result, combine the fuzzy bunny slippers with a carrot. Or, to be fair, two carrots (one for each slipper).

Edit: good point. Just use ONE slipper with ONE carrot. Save the other fuzzy rabbit slipper for later.

We can even use them separately. Actually, if we firstly cook one slipper, and then another with the same recipe, we can still get different things.

I thought I'd saved 3/4 of the update yesterday morning, and would finish it this morning. Turns out it didn't save >.< I'll have to rewrite it tonight.

A rumbling in Salaben's stomach interrupts the round of experiments. He could really go for a tomato sandwich. Too bad tomatoes aren't in season yet. No matter. He grabs a fistful of cherries from the basket before tossing it in the pot, along with the footstool.
► Show Spoiler
Salaben peeks into the pot, and he starts to drool a little. Inside is a giant cherry - the size of a footstool! He sets it besides the pot and uses it as a seat for the time being.

A single piece of broken jewelery goes in next. Salaben waits. And waits. And waits some more. It seems like there needs to be at least two items in the pot for it to work, at least for the simple items he has now. He tries tossing in the leftover cherry stalks as well.
► Show Spoiler
He pulls out a handful of shiny gold pieces shaped like cherry stalks.

Next goes the new set of Clothes of the Baron, and also the Essence of Silk.
► Show Spoiler
Out comes a glittery wisp, lighter than air, and more fragile than finely blown glass. Surely combining this with something else would make something really, really nice!

Salaben gets up to store the Essence of Finery before it breaks, and finds that his butt has turned red from the Cherrystool. It seems like this is not a good substitute for a regular footstool. Oh well. He tosses in a fuzzy rabbit slipper with a carrot, and pulls out a single fuzzy carrot slipper

Put on the fuzzy carrot slipper.

Try to look around for a spider in your home. There's bound to be one.

Also, combine the huge cherry with a loaf of bread.

I still want to combine ginger with a necklace, but I think Herds fell off the face of the forums.

The problem is that our stock is depleting. Too bad we can't clone stuff.

And try two pieces of broken jewellery together.
