Out of Print
There are two oddball games that I love, but have to practically beg my groups to play. The first is the Classic Marvel RPG. It's intuitive, has charts that make it so I can train a monkey to play, the Karma system combines XP with Drama/Action/Fate/whatever points in a way that makes sense, but... my players hate that character advancement takes forever, even though that mirrors comics accurately.
The other one is the White Wolf Street Fighter game. It encourages a nice balance between fighting and story, to tell the truth, especially since you have to partake in tournaments to advance your character up the ranks. My group is split on it, with about half loving it, the other half looking at me as if I'm on crack and not even wanting to give it a try. Do y'all have any games that you love that are out of print?

Wow, not even any posts about Werewolf: The Apocalypse, or Vampire: The Masquerade? No out of print games missed by anybody?

Re: Out of Print
Those aren't really "out of print", since they have the recent 20th Anniversary editions. They're changed versions of the games, but I don't think they count as being different games per se, so it's only the older editions that are OOP, not the games as a whole.

My mistake. Still, there has to be OOP games someone misses. AD&D 2nd E? West End Games Star Wars? Anything by Eden Studios?

Aberrant was good, and vastly underrated. Especially if you used it as a prelude to... I can't remember the name, it was a future game. I also liked the aspect of you gradually losing your humanity as you went along.

Trinity, I believe, was the future game. I don't know it at all.
Is Exalted still in print? I haven't heard about it lately, but maybe I'm just not in the bubble for it anymore.

No, it's gone. Really was ahead of its time, in my opinion. It was like Mutants and Masterminds with a White Wolf d10 rule set up.

Re: Out of Print
I was a big fan of the White Wolf games, and I wanted to like Exalted, but it was just too much weird, inaccessible lore, too many pages of Charms you had to read in order to know your character-building options...I couldn't really get into it. But I did suspect it would be rewarding to anyone who made enough of an effort to understand it. I simply had too many other things to get invested in.

I can dig that. It was a little quirky, and also a bit clunky, but it had potential. I mainly persevered because I love the Super genre.

Re: Out of Print
From my minimal acquaintance, it didn't feel anything like a superhero setting to me. It felt like anime. Dragonball Z may technically be a "superhero anime" of sorts, but to me, it lacks all the things that are crucial to the "essence" of the superhero genre. It's possible that I can't remove myself from cultural context enough to appreciate any non-American take on superheroes, but it's also possible that, say for example, Hiro from "Heroes" is a perfectly fine example of a Japanese take on being a superhero (despite having no costume or codename), and that Dragonball Z feels completely different, in a way that makes it more akin to Akira and Sailor Moon and so forth than it is to Batman or Spiderman.

Re: Out of Print
It was an open setting that could be run as a classic four color comic style, or something else entirely. Me, I liked to run it as a classic four color on the surface, with a horror setting underneath, as the node that gave them their powers slowly corrupted them, leading to them either becoming aloof gods that had nothing in common with humanity, or insane monsters that would want to dominate or destroy humanity.

That definitely doesn't sound anything like what I remember. Maybe an edition difference?crow76308 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 7:04 pm It was an open setting that could be run as a classic four color comic style, or something else entirely. Maybe? I remember the established setting lent itself to the style I mentioned, but it said to run it however you wanted, from paramilitary to classic four color.

Okay, let's talk Eden Studio's Unisystem. Anyone play All Flesh Must be Eaten, Armageddon, Witch Craft, or the games set in the Whedonverse?

Re: Out of Print
I've glanced at Witchcraft, and thought it seemed like interesting setting-building with an unplayable game attached, but that was a very shallow opinion which I lacked the inclination to look any deeper into.

Re: Out of Print
I've never played Witchcraft, but, generally speaking, the Unisystem is an incredibly easy gaming system with a clever dynamic that aids in theatrical game play. Stat+Skill+d10, with successes starting at 9 and 10. If you really need to make a roll, spend a Drama Point for a +10.

Huh. Okay, no one wants to talk Eden Studios, then. West End Games?

Okay, I have not played this game, but I've seen adverts for it in older sources. It was called TWERPS, The World's Easiest Role Playing System. What games have you heard of, but that went under before you got a chance to play them?
