He sniffs the water. If it smells okay, he cautiously dips a finger in and tastes it.

Smells and tastes fine.

Dornikal moves to peer and listen down the two western paths. He'll also give the air a sniff from both of them trying to pick up any stronger scent of 'bugginess'.

Looking, listening and sniffing: 1D20+4 = [12]+4 = 16

Randy tops off his water supply, then moves over to the western paths and examines the area for traces of bug activity.

survival: 1D20+6 = [12]+6 = 18

Dornikal finds that they aren't paths, but a wide pillar splitting the room. Ahead and to his left is an area of suspicously loose sand. Ahead and a bit to the right is a tunnel that seems to go deeper.

Randy finds a passage to his right. While everything is quiet, he does pick out marks on the floor consistent with insect feet having traveled in and out of the right hand chamber.

Dornikal goes back and reports the sand,

"Something is off with it, no other sand down here."

Randy shares his info. "The right hand opening seems to be active. Lot of scurrying in and out of there."

Maybe I missed it, but what is on the north wall just west of the well?

((Just a pillar, something that was in the map that I didn't have any intent to do anything with.))

"Should we test that sand somehow? Aye don't want something popping up behind us."

"How exactly can we do that without going near it though? I'm worried anyone near it will get pulled under and pretty much drown worse than in water!"

"Aye was thinking hitting it with some of yer magic? Couple of arrows?"

Randy obliges by taking his bow and shooting an arrow into the sand.

Zokk will rush up to Randy, preparing to strike with his quarterstaff.

Dornikal also stands with a javelin ready.

Randy fires an arrow into the sand, and it was totally hiding a bug that was waiting to ambush them!

It wriggles free, shaking off sand and charges at Randy!

((Zokk and Dornikal can make their attacks, and everyone can roll initiative!))

((Randy, go ahead and roll that attack at disadvantage for me to see if it managed to hit in a spot to do any damage.))

Dornikal hurls the javelin into the emerging bug monster before closing in to chop the cow eater to bits.

When Coljin sees Dornikal start running right into the sandy here he yells, "NO! Don't run in to the sandy room!" Tho he knows his words are probably useless!
