The American government becomes concerned when a set group of Americans have continuing foreign contact...once I've met you this board becomes that...I need not go into how paranoid the American government currently is...

Are you planning this for 2014? For me england is nearly a neighbour country, so it would be a much cheaper flight than most of you or I could even go by car (there is a tunnel below the ocean between france and england), but this might take too much time and fuel. Two birthdays are in august in our family, so maybe it won't be possible.

So, it seems that winter in London is so rainy and dreary that even the penguins (adapted to survive in Antarctica!) can't handle it. Good thing we're going in the summer! (We are going, right? Show of hands?)

I'm headed up North to perform in the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival on the 20th, and we've got a week of rehearsals from the 13th so I'll get a day out of those in advance

I still need to look into travel arrangements. I'd like to know where people are planning to stay. I'm also wondering how the current Thunt emergency will affect his plans to (maybe probably hopefully) attend. But yeah, we're still doing it and I will do my best to be there. I believe Lin already booked her flight. Who else is in?

I'm in, because I am already here. Mwa ha ha.
As before, if people's travel arrangements are such that they're stuck without a room for any period of their stay, I can offer a sofa to kip on, unlimited tea and coffee and bacon sandwiches, and transport to/from said sofa since I'll be travelling anyway. I don't have any spare rooms, because one is an art room and one is a tuition room, and I have a big fluffy dog who'll want hugs, but it's better than sleeping on a park bench o_o

Lin was going to look into booking a hostel somewhere. At some point. I'd want to book a hotel nearby. Sleep is just too critical for me to mess around with, and I'm lucky enough to be able to afford to waste the money.

If you're looking for somewhere central, try the St. Giles hotel. We stayed there when we were last in London and it's fine - pretty quiet, pretty cheap for London (c. £90 for a double room for the night) and it's clean. The rooms are small and the place has a bit of a hostel feel, but compared to some other places, it's totally fine.
Otherwise, I'd recommend Premier Inns as being a franchise of decent, pretty quiet hotels to stay in. I'm not sure how the prices compare, but they're also clean and decent.

Cool. I'll look into it. But, like I said, I'd like to be close to where everyone else will be. So I'm waiting to find out where that is. We're far enough out from the date that I don't think it'll be a problem.

Sure
I wouldn't wait too long though - mid August is right in the middle of the English school holidays so it'll be full-blown tourist season

I'm still planning on attending, even though the prospect of traveling to meet
strangers seems scary, weird and I've no clue what to do once there
Haven't booked or even looked at anything yet though

I have been rather slack in things.... I'm not motivated and feel rather overwhelmed with life in general.
I will get things booked up eventually for a place to stay.

Theis, I may be stranger than many people, but I'm not a stranger to you!
Lin, it's understandable. You've had a lot on your plate. We've got 6 months. Do it when you can.
