I propose using both. I will underline the key points.
Example: I will move forward 1 room and will arrive at room 2
Now there is no confusion. I moved 1 space, and reached room 2

Alright then, so I can't move forward one room then, right? So I will move forward 2 rooms and end in room 5. And I will use my teller ability to scan room 4.

Turn 2
Knows Things moves to room 2, and he finds a coin. Yay.
Really Thick Head moves to room 4, as soon as he enters the room he feels dizzy and finds himself in room 10, where a giant rat is waiting for him! The rat is so quick and he bite Head and kills him.
What's Wrong With His Face? scans room 4, he discovers that room 4 contains a teleporting rune connected with room 10. Although Head already knew that. He then moves to room 5 to find a trap door. He does not successfully dodge it and falls to his death.
Open Doors moves to room 7 and finds a skeleton. He is not sure skeleton of what it is, but it does not make him any happier. To become happier, he picks up one of the skeleton's bones.
Q moves to room 9. He finds a dead goblin. A very dead goblin. Also a stinky one. He gains +1 xp for surviving the smell.
Goes-Berserk & Three Left Feet spawn at room 1.
Three Left Feet is the new teller.

Q would like to move to room 11, but there is a big rat in room 10 preventing from him to do so, so he stays at his place. (Yep, it is mentioned in the rules.)
Goes-Berserk dies from inactivity.
Distracted by Shiny Objects spawns at point number 1.

You might want to take a look at that again. I think someone already took the number 4 for movement which is what you would need. Turn 4
Knows Things is the first to charge to the rat at room 10. He uses his bone to attack it and he succesfully hits the rat. Only that, the rat also hits him. They both get 1 damage which kills Knows Things, but not the rat. Also, his bone breaks.
Open Doors than runs to the rat and hits it with his knife, killing the rat. The poor rat was too tired from killing Knows that he couldn't fight back.
Both Open Doors and Knows Things gain 1 xp for killing the rat.
Q also moves to room 10. He abandon the body since it's too heavy for him.
Distracted by Shiny Objects also moves to room 10. This starts to get boring.
