If you guys post avatars in here that you would like to see available to new users, I will put them in an avatar gallery that will be available when users create an account.

BTW, For quickies, I use the Avatar-Generator, pretty easy to use, has a standardised set of borders, good cropping, resizing,....
Or I do it offline in whatever is installed on the currently used machine.

I hope to remember to add my Forgath in a dress when I ditch this avatar and select a new one.

You know you can link to multiple images in a post if you upload them elsewhere, right?

I know, but basically I don't want to.
This way the images are stored HERE, and can not be deleted by any external service. I/We simply have more control over them that way.

Fair enough, the problem is that while there is a decent amount of space for attachment storage on the server, it is a finite amount. I don't have a problem with people using it, but I probably need to adjust the file size limitations (which your posts wouldn't even touch).

Once the gallery is online, I am more than willing to delete the actual images here. I just need to know.
I've seen other threads with some proposed avatars, when I stumble over them again, I'll link them here.

@ storage:

An alternative solution could be to move the images partly to some free image host, like photobucket, who lets you upload and use pictures freely as long as you don't reach a certain band limit per month. Given that the pictures are small and probably won't get too much traffic, it could be worth a shot having them somewhere instead of hogging server space.

Or for example this thread could be used as avatar gallery too, with the first post edited accordingly. There could be groupings based on character, and so on.

I think I'll set up the avatar gallery in August, it should be light on me in terms of workload so I should have the time.

Okay, setting up the avatar gallery now, but I'll need more avatars... especially because all of the attached avatars are broken (hence why I ask that people upload the avatars to photobucket, imgur or something similar so that we don't have to worry about that.

As soon as people get me some avatars I will upload them.

Best,
Moose

That's weird. The avatars are still in my list of attachments. :( But they don't load.
I had that a few times already. Sometimes later they work again....
May this be a first indication of a crash coming up? (I hope not!)

I'll see that I update the ones I still have to someplace.

(Personally, I would expect outside places to be more something to worry about than this forum. We don't have control over what happens at outside hosters, whereas here "we" control what stays and what not.)

Right, the thing is that once I download them to my computer it won't matter anymore. I'll do that tonight and get them online.

Got another one:
not on imgur yet, but on my HDD:
Image

It's a spoilerish image, as new readers who just started the archive might see too much.....
But then, it might hook them up to know when this happens and what it means (as if we knew!).

BTW: I've been searching this thread, especially in "forum stuff".... The search function did not help at all. :(
I already wondered if you had it removed.

Well, it's only spoilerish if you know whose face that is and what it means.

As for the boards search function... yeah, the phpBB's built-in search function leaves much to be desired.
FAQ thread wrote:The forum has its own search engine (the box in the upper right corner), but you may find it less than helpful. You'll probably have better luck using Google. Just do a regular Google search but add site:goblinsforum.com to the end of your search term(s). For example, to search for posts and topics about goblin eyes, you'd go to Google.com (or set your browser's search box to Google) and search for:

goblin eyes site:goblinsforum.com
