So, I'm unclear what the Angel actually did, if Complains was already Chiefed by then. I'm guessing this ends with him flipping the lever over himself, or using those awesome demon IME wings to fly.

Neat! Can't wait to see how Complains is going to defeat a fully-fledged senior angel!

You'd think she could just reach out and poke him down the drain. It's not really huge footing he has there...

But yeah. Kinda reminds me of couple of stories. Dragonlance and Discworld... Both with D... Conspiracy? >:?

Raistlin learning to be a battlemage and going through motions of dungballs, right incantations and senior mage boffing him down saying "Boom, you're dead. Stop making it so complicated."

And Weatherwax just putting up some sticks and stuff as "babyfat candles" and whatnot to make arcane spells, 'cose they're good enough.

But yeah. Apparently he wasn't Chief, but only Chief-To-Be then. Now lets see you flex that Charisma bonus, Complains. Roll that nat 20 to charm Trolls Mortals. >:D

No offense intended, but in my head-canon, the goblin angel's name will always be Trolls Mortals.

I feel like that Charisma bonus was very much needed to round out his character.

I am bothered by the form of Gellin's club. Since they have not jumped out of the pit in a cool action pose, I am going to assume it's a mishapen wand of some sort and has range. I disliked Biscuit's weapon, but at least that was top heavy to facilitate striking, and had an edge.

SO, what do ya'll think Gellin/Trolls Mortal's alignment is? Definitely lawful, but is she really good, or just neutral? She doesn't look very beat up about slaughtering these goblins for just answering an arbitrary question wrong. She just looks to be a bureaucrat who's bored with her job but who finds these mortals' attempts at surviving her tests a mildly entertaining way to pass the time.

I know I don't post often here, but getting Trolls Mortals recognised as a name accepted amongst the fandom seems to be a thing I managed to do! :D

And here I assumed that Complains started the fight by lashing out in anger. It turns out he was just defending himself.

I'm guessing flipping the lever himself since I don't think that IMEs are supposed to have tangible, physical effects.

And I'm also confused about what the Angel did. Complains says that "selecting a Chief" requires a ceremony, so I'm sticking with my previous guess that selecting the Chief is one ceremony and the actual Chiefing is a separate ceremony.

If Complains only just got the Charisma bonus, that means he wasn't a chief before, which means that Complains was right in saying he wasn't a chief yet, even if there had been a ceremony.

Then again, the question is whether Complains could be a beneficial Chief for his clan, not if he already was one. And also, the future is unwritten, so yes, Complains should have known that in some unlikely future, at least some remote possibility existed that he could be a beneficial Chief.

I still say "Trolls Mortals" is a gross misinterpretation of her character. She seems to genuinely want to help them grow, but she's also bound by the rules of the job.

As for Complains: The question was whether he could be a good chief. He said it wasn't possible for him to be chief since he'd been declared an "empty goblin" (basically exiled from the clan) for taking the sword from the Poorly Locked Chest back at the warcamp. But Chief had, in a wordless ceremony with his dying breath, taken away the "empty goblin" status and marked Complains as his chosen successor. However, there's a difference between being designated as heir to the throne and actually taking office. It wasn't until this ceremony just now that he actually became chief of the clan. And apparently he's destined to be the greatest Cryptic Falls chief yet, eventually elevating the clan to legendary status.

So: He was wrong. He can be a great chief. But he wasn't chief until this page.

Gellin isn't happy about having to kill Complains directly, but she's clearly Lawful, and it's apparently part of 'the rules' here that an incorrect answer means she has to kill them. (Guessing LN for her alignment, but that could be the alignment of the trap-maker, and she's just supposed to conform to that. She really does seem to be rooting for them, so maybe she's Good.)

Also, the angel's 'name' reminds me of an old Dr. Scholl's commercial:

-Have you met my friend, Hellen McMellan?
-Are YOU gellin'?
-I'm so gellin', my eyes are wellin'!

And I still think the name fits, as you can be trolling others unintentionally too, or you could help people develop themselves by trolling them and making them think about things from a different aspect. Granted, it's not the nicest way, but it is "a" way. Whichever the case, as per the pages hitherto seen, it describes her pretty well. As to whether it indeed fits her personality or not, we could argue that names like Saves-a-Fox, Dies Horribly, Big Ears also turned out to be questionable after a while, so this nickname should get some leeway too.

That being said, feel free to call her Gellin instead, I guess I'll stick to TM unless I'm officially told not to. :D

I wonder why she did not try to stop Vorpal, though. Did his ascension took only 1-2 rounds so she was unable to fight?

She was so flabbergasted seeing Vorpal levitate close to the exit, and then had to look up how Vorpal did that, that she wasted her reaction round finding out how he did it... (she failed her reaction check badly)

And she apparently did not want to interfere directly, as this problem would solve itself by Vorpal going out through the upper door/portal.

With Complains of Names it's differently: he'll stay where he is unless she either send him up, or makes him go down.

Nah. It's just my opinion. We've got a long history of giving nicknames to characters around here. Junior, Not Walter, Psymax, etc. If she was a real person, there might be official reason to object. Or if it was a slur or something inappropriate like that. Call her what you want.

And, yeah, Krulle. I see it pretty much the same. SVK levitated out of reach, surprising her. Unless she can fly, it would have been difficult for her to do anything about him. But Complains is just standing there, so now she has a duty to try to finish the job. Not that she wants to kill either of them. We know that Complains cuts off one of her horns, tumbles three times, and makes it to the exit. I wouldn't be surprised if he has the opportunity because she goes easy on him.

Hi all,
Really liked this one. Again, I'm waiting eagerly for the next page.

The angel clearly does not WANT to kill the goblins, but it is part of the job.

I wonder what she did, that got her this nasty job. I bet that being high was part of the reason she ended up here! LOL. She is 0 for 2 so far. Maybe she will do such a bad job, that she will get fired and end up someplace nicer.

The art for Complains has changed in a really subtle way. He looks nicer, and more goblin-y. (That Charisma bonus no doubt.) Hard to see what has changed, the eye brow ridges, and a bit of colouring above his eyes, I think.

See you guys, in a couple weeks or so!

Hugs, Nina.

He'll make it out because xhe summoned an ironing board instead of a sword.

Sorry. I am really bothered by that weapon. The obvious weapon would have been a spear. And Gellin would have held it in a really strange way. That would have been a good callback.

Generic thinks the angel has a club; Krulle thinks it's a SPEAR somehow. Am I the only one who sees that it's obviously a sword? (More specifically something akin to a machete or falchion, a big heavy choppy kind of sword with a cutting edge that borders on an axe. This comic's author really likes hybrid weapons, it seems. Pretty sure there are some blatantly obvious weapons we've never seen, but I'm not up to an archive dive to find out which ones have actually been missed, and which ones were being wielded by some random goon in the background of some panel somewhere.)

Super thick material. Obtuse edges for striking (that crack shows the edge is about 90degrees). Cracks in the material dom't seems to bother Gellin. A... nische in the back for something... It's obviously not meant for chopping, so I'm in the spear camp. I might return to the wand camp due to those crystals embedded in the board.

Gellin is holding the handle more like a sword than a spear.
