28 nov. 2019 - new character bad
http://goblinscomic.com/comic/page-26-2019
MinMax is back to his old self, as the scene changes again.
It would be marvelous if mr Dumpstat croaked on the first puzzle he had to do by himself. I would enjoy that turn of event. Kin takes the relatable role, and Fumbles the goofy one from MinMax.

Re: 28 nov. 2019 - new character bad
I love how this puzzle gets solved by Minmax. I also wonder if it will work.
In the end he will need to remember which head came from where, so that he can place the right colours in the hands...

If the heads are just "hints" and not necessary for an interaction with the orb in the hand, he could still rip 'em all off, realise he has to switch the orbs in the hands, and then run down all 6*5*4*3*2*1 possibilities. That's only 720 if my math is correct on this one. As long as there's no "you get three attempts before the room fills with gas", he could just bruteforce it.

Re: 28 nov. 2019 - new character bad
I'm loving the reference to the guards discussion about PCs that "shit all over the place" and gained XP for it. I'm wondering if that's not gonna come boomeranging back at us here in the next few panels.
The surprise of Minmax figuring out the puzzle being immediately subverted by him attempted to solve it in just the wrong way is one of the best comedic moments the comic has had in a looooong time

I don't think I would give extra exp to a character stalling instead of enabling another incapacitated player.

You know, the way he acts, you would think that his player is stupid. Even though a CHARACTER might have low INT, the player normally has normal intelligence, making puzzles difficult to handle in games.

Maybe the player of Minmax is all about story telling role-playing, and is not into hack and slash?

Re: 28 nov. 2019 - new character bad
My read on Minmax's player has been that they are probably a long-time DnD player, possibly an ex-DM, who was invited back to a game after a few years off. They wanted to build a stupid, silly, ultra-minmaxed character just to have fun and not get too invested, but wound up getting sucked back into the RP aspects of the game via the addictive siren-song of learning backstory, and now are playing their stupid joke minmaxed character seriously because they can't help themselves.

Whatever the reasons are, Herbert is a pal of his. He flagged his stupid character ok, and gives him plot and spotlight in abundance. No wonder the other players are dropping off.thetaubadel wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 9:19 amMy read on Minmax's player has been that they are probably a long-time DnD player, possibly an ex-DM, who was invited back to a game after a few years off. Re: 28 nov. 2019 - new character bad
Elli's exact words, spoken multiple times on stream, were "Herbert is a bad DM." The evidence she says should make that obvious:
1. The scene with the one-legged zombie that introduced Not-Walter
2. Minmax's character sheet.
I don't think there's more to it than that. Herbert is a bad DM. And Minmax's player is a bad player - a minmaxer set on creating a combat beast with no regard for anything else.
But Minmax is who he is. He's taken on a life of his own, and he's grown beyond the need to earn every drop of XP from every monster encounter. The comic is the story of the characters we see. Herbert is just a bit of necessary background that we'll never see. One of the points of the comic is that the GAP is more than the monster manual makes them out to be. They're people who just happen to live in a world governed by D&D rules. So... Either Minmax has outgrown what his player intended him to be or his player has learned to appreciate RP. I don't think we'll ever know which, because the player isn't important.

Re: 28 nov. 2019 - new character bad
If I was the DM, I would totally let Minmax solve the puzzle that way. I mean, in the end, the orbs are matching with the heads, so the end result is the same, more or less. It's a hilarious way to solve the puzzle that I would never would have even thought of and I think creative solutions deserve to be rewarded.

Re: 28 nov. 2019 - new character bad
I beleive minmax has possibly solved the puzzle correctly.
if we think kin 'solved' the puzzle only to be trapped moments later. It could actually be safe to assume this is the correct way of doing the puzzle.
A very Simple puzzle to do - any player could tell that you move the orbs from the hands to match, Only the actual trap is that if its solved in the 'normal way' it triggers the 2nd part of the trap in the next room.
