I feel like this is one of those things that is far, FAR easier to miss in the forum setting than it would be at a table or IC
Ah well. Sorry Ulmwin!

I really don't see the problem, aren't we much better off this way?
Also Spider, there's no magic in here besides us?

Oh come on guys, you don't mean this
Do you not need someone who can't run as fast as the others when the only option is to run away..?

Coljin isn't really expendable.

The teleportation circle is the main thing, the folks aren't decked out in magic gear.

Now, now! Ulmwin has made himself useful quite a few times. He got Randy back up and into the fight with the were jackals. And if he hadn't scared the dragonkin away, you might be playing a female transfigured mule now!

Wait... I saw this episode of Stargate. Someone was stuck in the buffers or some such. They had to reboot the system. I think. Clearly top notch writing.
Pretty sure there was at least two Star Trek episodes with the same premise but with transporters!

I'm really tempted to have Ulmwin break the fourth wall once he gets through and make a dial up sound, then say that he too, has no idea what that means.

Re: The Sundered Way - OOC
Fun calculations... recasting a teleportation circle would take a year and cost ~130,000 gold.
At an unskilled labor rate of 2 silver per day, paying it off would take 1780 years.
At a skilled labor rate of 2 gold per day, costs would be recouped in only 178 years.
Of course, Ulmwin is a 4th level bard, and beyond the skill of your average commoner. He'd probably be able to pay it off well before Randy, Holger, Tess, Zephyr and Maji die of old age...

That leaves him with about ~30 years to get his revenge on them!
Does your calculation include all the extra damage Ulmwin would do while "working", though..?

I also just want to say that if Ulmwin could vicious mockery Maji's board and snap it in two, he would, then mend it later.

Re: The Sundered Way - OOC
And I know I'm triple posting at this point, but where does the 130.000 gold price tag come from..? At 50 gold a day, I come out on 18250 gold myself (still a lot, obviously) Is that just "service fees"?

Re: The Sundered Way - OOC
I think I would have noticed the 'only one gnome' came through thing, but I was off visiting this weekend and then I forgot my phone charger at home....Ugg...1 1/2 days without my cell phone charged and any web access. But yes. I did survive and I don't think I need any therapy. (At least not for this)

Re: The Sundered Way - OOC
Yeah, suggested cost for hiring out for spellcasting is (according to internet) the spell level squared plus double consumable costs.

Re: The Sundered Way - OOC
Wouldn't that be 125 a day, which for 365 days in a year, would still come down to ~45625 gold?
I'll shut up now though, before the portal actually ends up broken

Oops.
(Spell level)(spell level) x 10 + cost of consumables x 2 +% not consumed

Re: The Sundered Way - OOC
Ulmwin's gonna have to get a couple more levels so he can do the work himself..!
At which point, realistically he could probably get off without further payment, given usual service cost

Also on the topic of giving our party a name: how does "The troubledours" sound (As a mix on troubadour, and well, trouble. It seems fitting, somehow...)

Re: The Sundered Way - OOC
Hmm, Coljin would be fine with that name. BUT, he'd feell he would have to join in with the music or singing in some way. So you might end up hearing some really fast tempo bad gnome singing soon. Or maybe he just buys a tambourine.

Don't worry, we can make Coljin responsible for the triangle if nothing else.

Re: The Sundered Way - OOC
Maji isn't going to sing for you guys, and you'll have to pay him if you want a dancing bear.
