Vatro wobbles a bit in his chair and generally seem to have a hard time focusing on what is going on.

"I could sneak into the shan.. shano.. shanitashion place.. Any notable buildingsh around the bank that could be connected? One of ush could also go in and make a deposhit to scout the location out. Any of you want a drink?"

So the books aren't clear on this, but how much would it cost me to craft a gallon of beer and a flask of fine wine? Could I also craft some strong liquor in combination with my alchemy set?
Also the price of a small mirror? :P

"So what skills are we working with here? I can talk my way around most people, and have a fair talent in forgeries when it's needed. I'm more of a lover than a fighter, but it looks like I've got a bodyguard to take care of that side of life!

What about the rest of you?"

So far so good. Either no one's seemed to notice anything strange about Veska's voice, or they don't care.

"I'm great in a scrap," she adds. "And I'm real good slinking 'round at night and tailin' marks. Even them dark-sighted folks can't see me if I don' want 'em to. Ain't nobody knows how to get around under the city better'n I do, neither."

She figures it best not to add that she knows a few magic tricks, too. None of them really help in figuring out how rob a bank, anyway.

Everyone

"What do you mean he's well-known? I intend to play my part as a legitimate member of the upper classes, but I wouldn't want to create any unnecessary suspicion before we get started."

"I'm known as a bit of a troublemaker, I suppose. But I've kept any of the actual illegal stuff I've done either well secret, or just made sure there was no one left to tell."

"If anything, I expect it to work to our benefit, or otherwise I doubt this employer would even have called me in... I can take care of some of the grunt work without arousing suspicion, because they'll think I'm up to some menial thing, not something as... Grandiose as this."

"Yeah, that pretty much covers. Even with the occasional gruntwork though, you've been pretty honest the last few years. Worst on your record is some minor violence down at the docks. So nobody's likely to think twice when they hear you're playing bodyguard now. Not to mention you're a big ol' scar-faced half-orc! I'd be surprised if the guards couldn't recognise you on sight by now."

"All right. Last question- what's our expenses like? Well undoubtedly need to procure certain objects and services toq prepare and a spot of gold goes a long way towards making sure the right people look the other way when it matters."

"For coin you'll have to relay on your own wallets, for the most part. I can maybe give you a hand with bribes if they're too much for ya to afford, but that's about all. Specialist equipment is another matter though - I know some of the best smugglers and forgers this side of the Ankaran sea! Tell me what you need, and I'll get it...assuming it ain't too complicated, of course."

"If ya wanna go under the bank, yer gonna have to deal with the sewer packs to the north. They're real wary o' lettin' you tall-folk run 'round their turf, 'specially if yer gonna cause trouble over top of 'em. I could get us through though, and it'd still prolly be easier than gettin' in topside."

"And this is exactly why you're here, Miss Veska! Ain't nobody know the sewers better than your folk."

"Well, tell me more about this dead uncle of mine. I'll need to know everything you do about this man and his affairs. I don't like surprises."

"Ah, of course, of course. He is - or was - a merchant. Pretty minor one, dealt in crops for the most part. Anyway, when he kicked the bucket we managed to pull in some favours and get our hands on the deed to his house. No family in the city, so nobody will be asking after him. As for the house, none of the nobles should even know the place exists, and I doubt the guards will care either. Ought'a be the perfect hideaway, long as you don't draw too much attention to yerselves..."

"Oh yeah, and we were thinking that Mr Kytiel would be better suited to play the grieving nephew, on account of his...special talents. You know, the face magic. And you could play the noble friend, renting a room while you're in town. No reason you can't switch it up though, if that's what ya want."

"Any notable buildingsh around the bank that could be connected?"

"...well, Carmichael Manor is basically next door. That count?"

What do halflings have to do with sewers though? Where I'm from they tend to be a more... rural folk."

"Well, it sounds like we've got ourselves quite the group!"

"Yeah, we got a schmoozer," Veska gestures at Jax, ignoring his following question, "some muscle, a magic man, a uhhh thief?" Veska looking to Uragh, Kytiel, and Vatro in turn. "And yeh've got me, the illust-er-ous sewer rat."

"So le's hammer this out. One or two o' you human-kinda folk 're gonna figure out the guard stuff, which leaves the rest of us off to go nick those blueprint things, izzat right?"

"...One last thing there, my friend. Tell me a little about the Carmichaels why don't you? Seems an inside man might do us some good here. I can talk my way into most places, but it's faster and easier if you know the weak link in the chain first. So... Any lonely spinsters in the family? Lost young men needing a kindly father figure? Anyone we should keep our distance from? I guess we can find out ourselves easily enough, but like I say, it's faster if you know who to start with."

"On the record." he states, with a bit of a grin... Then again, he supposed that doesn't really need to be said- He says so much out loud.

"Then again, I suppose that's another thing that does not need said. Your employer wouldn't be calling me in for the job if he thought I was just some dock worker, after all."

"Anyways... I also do work a bit around the docks. If that's where our final drop off is gonna be... I might help see about our potential escape route."

"Well, the family ain't exactly a small one. Lots of aunts and uncles and cousins and that, y'know. That said, most of 'em have been pushed out of the inner circle recently. There's only a handful left you really need to worry about."

"The family patriarch is Alfonso Carmichael, the second. People tend to call him Junior, though never to his face of course. His daddy was Alfonso Senior, died of a heart-attack or some'in a couple of years ago. Left a bit of a power vacuum. Since then, Junior's done his best to consolidate his strength and push most of his money-grubbing rivals out of the spotlight."

"His biggest ally is Horith Nyntynel, high elf advisor. Horith's been around longer than anyone can remember - hell, he was old and grey back when I was just a young whipper-snapper! He's been advising Carmichael's for centuries, if the rumours are true. People say he's a powerful magician too, so might want to watch out for that."

"Next up are Junior's sisters, Amythest and Priscilla. Amythest is the brains behind most of the family's finances. She handles the private affairs - paying servants, bribing officials, building renovations, that sort of thing. She's a pretty private person herself too, rarely gets seen in public. Priscilla's the opposite, always swanning around and showing off the newest dress in her collection. She's actually throwing another ball later this week, up at the Manor. Invited pretty much every noble in the city, and a fair few outside it too."

"Finally, you've got Frederik. He's not a Carmichael by blood or anything - his mam was Alfonso Senior's second wife. But he's basically been accepted as an honorary member. Spends most of his time out of the city doing gods know what, but he'll probably be coming back for that party, so might want to watch out for him. He's got his own cabin on the Carmichael grounds, near the main Manor."

"Sho.. Where will we meet up to plan further when our initial preparation is done? I doubt you want us coming and going to this shop leading up to the heist."

"Yep, that's the reason you've got this safehouse! Should be a lot less suspicious than you lot traipsing in-n'-out of here all the time. I don't need to be part of the plan anyway - less I know of the details, the better!"

"Anyway, we should probably start to wrap this up, unless you kids got any more questions. Got lots of work ahead of you, after all!"

After making sure the papers are in order, Jerry hands them to Kytiel. The letter is addressed to a "Mr Khyle Barnabus" - his cover name, presumably - and is from a solicitor, referring to Jakson Barnabus' last will and testament. Attached to the inside is a simple iron key. The other paper is the deed to the house, or at least a very good copy, with the address listed as 17 Barkin's Corner.

He also hands Uragh an official looking "Bodyguard Contract". The only thing missing is the name and signature of the contract employer.

"Here. This should help with getting through checkpoints and the like. Assuming you're with yer 'employer', of course. Might be harder alone, but not impossible if you come up with a good excuse. We weren't sure of the details of Mr Jax's cover identity, so figured we'd leave that for him to fill in."

"Nah, totally fake. Jakson didn't actually have any nephews, or close family at all really. Only child, parents dead, no wife, moved around a lot. Part of what makes him the perfect alibi."

((@Thinks: I've left things as open-ended as possible. So if you decide to do things differently, such as make Kytiel the bodyguard employer, then you're free to do so.))

((That's completely fine. I imagine that both Jax and Kytiel are capable of playing the same person as required anyway, so it's no odds. Probably good to keep our options open and have a minor noble be our employer.))

"Very well. Uragh, if you give me your contract, I'll make sure it's properly signed and sealed and will return it to you when you meet your "employer".

I suppose we should do this properly... We can't have them come into town by ship because there would be no passenger records of us being on board, so we'll have to enter the city by road, ideally on horseback or private carriage, as would befit a member of the nobility. I would be good if we were noticed arriving in town. People who appear out of nowhere tend to raise suspicions far more than those who behave normally, especially if the city guard have been paid off. It will be in our interests for them to see us arriving I think. Kytiel, it would probably make sense for you to arrive with my bodyguard and me, if only to solidify the notion that we are old friends.

I am currently renting a small loft in an inn across the river as Robb Miller, where I'm keeping a few supplies and tricks of the trade. I was planning on keeping that room paid up for the foreseeable future, but no-one will think twice if Robb disappears for days at a time. They'll just assume he's found a woman or is hiding out from his gambling debts again or something."

((It's a private room in a shitty part of town if that works? I figure Jax is new to town, but has probably been here for 2-3 weeks or so - long enough to get a rough feel for the place but not long enough to have any particular ties to it))
