Mistborn

I recently discovered that series (through the Alloy of Law... don't read it before reading the original trilogy )

I just love the feeling of the series (though it gets a little repetitive at second rereading, but if never gets even close to "Earth Children" levels - thank god). What suprised me the most was how great and delicate was handling of the issue of religion, especially in the last two books [Especially after learning of authors faith. Totally not what I suspected.]
And magic system is really breath of fresh air.

Anybody read it? Any different feelings?

I love how he can say much with less, while reading mistborn I had a major production 3d cinema in my head portraying the battles etc. I love how he brings fresh air into the genre, way of kings was even better imo, though hard to tell cause that series havent even got book 2 ready. Anyways, Brandon Sanderson rocks, looking forward to whatever he releases

Way of Kings is going to be one of the best series of all time. It's no wonder why Jordan's wife chose Sanderson to complete the Dragon Reborn Legacy.

If you could only have one metal, which would it be?
Brass would be mine, maybe Bronze. I'm not great getting people to feel the way i want, so this would be very helpful.

Have you ever read the Warbreaker book? It's another great example and extraordinary addition to the genre.

I have never read anything else by him, but when I learned about shared universe... It's almost necessary now

As for metals... I am torn between steel (flying ), pewter and copper (last one because of mental allomancy). If I was wealthy enough to have alluminium hat copper could not exist

I LOVE the storyline in the Mistborn books, but I do feel that Brandon Sanderson is let down by the way he writes relationships between his characters. It's not a big deal if the storyline is allowed to do most of the work, but the romances feel really awkward (and not just in this book, it was the same in Elantris).

I'd read more of his work though for sure, he has some very original ideas in his books

Although I loved the Mistborn Trilogy, I would have to agree with Prometheus that Way of Kings and Warbreaker were much better books. I really wish he would get around to the second Way of Kings book now that A Memory of Light is out. So if you liked Mistborn, you should at least try his other two great books. BTW: A Memory of Light is possibly the greatest book I have ever read, thank you Brandon Sanderson.

I bought it the day it came out and I read it all that night and then re-read it the next night. And I just re-read it again a few nights ago. Sure, the battle sometimes seems like it is dragging on for a while, but then something interesting always happens. Just what I have come to expect from both authors. I will admit that I first became interested in Wheel of Time when Gathering Storm came out, the first one with Brandon Sanderson working on it. (Give me a break, I am still in college, I was not even born when The Eye of the World came out). But I loved every minute of that book. I even cried a little at one point.

I feel like I've been reading Wheel of Time forever. I think it was '94 when I marathoned the first 4 in a week then found book five a couple weeks later on clearance. It going to be weird being done with them. I read once where Brandon was saying that he was a teenager and a fan when the first Wheel of Time books came out, and that he'd never imagined he'd be helping to finish them.

I think that Sanderson was the right man for the job. He managed to make the series intriguing again, because honestly I thought that book 11 Knife of Dreams did not have the same type of spirit that the proceeding 10 books had. Also Sanderson had said that Jordan had planned on only having 12 books, so he (Sanderson) must have added a lot as it ended up being 14 books.

Although now I am just happy that Sanderson has moved on to working on book 2 of his Stormlight chronicles at last. Seems like forever since Way of Kings introduced us to his latest realm. (even if it did come out in 2010, still not as long of a gap as Martin puts between his books.)

I'm half-way through the first book and I gotta say that the magic system and the whole concept of burning metals to do said magic is just amazing! A breathe of fresh air and a well designed system. Cannot stop reading!

He's a pretty prolific writer so I expect he'll follow through with all the sequels. I really enjoyed Mistborn and Elantris, but wasn't that impressed by Warbreaker. There's soooo much more of his material that I haven't read yet though. Holy smokes, I just checked out the Wikipedia entry...I'm clearly behind!

Finally got around to reading the trilogy. Yeah, that was pretty brilliant. I guess I will have to get the follow up books, now.

I would choose to burn pewter, I think. Healing. Although copper is tempting.

I love Sanderson, he's one of the few authors I still read now that I'm an adult professional.

I first got into The Wheel of Time back in elementary school, and my sister bought me a copy of Elantris when it first came out, because Sanderson was associate faculty at her college at the time and he had a book signing at her school bookstore.

Let me tell you, it was pretty awesome when Sanderson took over and finished Jordan's masterpiece. (Though they both have their quirks, as writers and authors.)


And Sanderson's romances have been getting less awkward over time I think. Wax's romance development in Shadows of Self and Bands of Mourning I actually found quite charming.

As for metal burning. I'm not sure. I'd probably say Pewter, though Steel and Tin are both very tempting. And Electrum would be pretty cool too.

As far as Feruchemy goes, I'd probably choose the same things, though maybe in a bit different order.
