Anyone up for a 3.5 edition (but about 80% homebrew) game? I'm using the d20 SRD (
http://www.d20srd.org/index.htm) but a lot of homebrew rules (rogues are nerfed, magic is harder, max spell level is 4)
Thanks to the actions of my last party, the big bad won. Now she rules the human lands. Looks like the realm is in the need for more heroes to overthrow her...
It's a sandbox, so you can do whatever you want instead of the plot. That's actually why the big bad won -- my prior party completely -ignored- the plot and went off and did their own thing.

The Lands As They Stand
In the Shadowed Lands of Zalthoria the All-Devouring, human warlords push and pull their various politics around the capital of Tornas Vahr, in the northwest portion of the world. Roads leading to every major city around the Lake of the Lost Wyrm mark it as a very well traveled area. Cities and fortresses further out are usually left to govern for themselves but they still answer to the Dragon Queen, who has at least three lairs. The Black Dragoness claimed a copper dragon's lair in the Lake of the Lost Wyrm, she has a back up lair in the plagued ruins of Twolake, and her "real" lair is unknown.
To the north of the Shadowed Lands lies the land of ice and frost, the Winterwolf Wastes. Only the strongest of the strong live here, mostly a collection of humans, "Thortharrak," and the very odd refugee from other lands. Ever since Zalthoria took control of the human lands, the Winterwolf Wastes have seen an upswing in population... and not everybody enjoys this.
To the south, the nation of Gorumidaria houses the Gorumidari people... the Dwarves. Big-nosed, industrious, and exceptionally hardy, the dwarves serve as (mostly) allies and the two peoples trade back and forth for metals, food, slaves, technology and magic. The Gorumidari worship a demon god, but that hasn't put a damper on trade with the humans; they (usually) "keep their religion to thyself." With the rise of the Dragon Queen, they are wary, but maintain a fair bit of trade... mostly because if they cut her off, their realm is next!
The central south is ruled by the United Sycanesti Beast Peoples, a race of anthropomorphic animals that treat the humans with respect even if the humans don't always answer in kind. Despite the respect, they have closed the borders to humans mostly due to the rise of the Dragon Queen. They are not equipped to handle a long term war when Gorumidaria is in the way, and Zalthoria the All-Devouring knows this.
To the southeast along the coast of the USBP are the Territories of the Seukothi. The Seukothi are four-armed squirrel-taurs with a mastery of hunt and trap, a disdain for all things metal, a deep-seated greed for wooden art or gemstones, and an absolute hatred of the humans and the Gorumidari. The former are reskinned in squirrel fur after being skinned alive; the latter are murdered to the last child and left to rot.
In the Beastlands Ocean, there is the Tribal Seafloor of the Talayaethi that is the home of the Merfolk. Quiet and reclusive, main cities and remote fishing villages are as nomadic as the tides they come in on. There are a few larger Talayathi-made islands that float on the surface of the water to serve either as guides or places to rest, but all the main places are underwater and there is a scant few places where airbreathers and the surface dwellers can survive without some form of magical assistance.
Far southeast of the human lands lies the Scorched Wastes of Mazitatalani, filled with wandering nomad tribes of humans and outcasts from all other races. If you want to "disappear", that's where you go. It is remarkably safe as the Dragon Queen figures it a useless land of sand and dust.
On the opposite continent are both the Volkaimolok Highlands and the Thortharrak Upper Lands. These locations house the Volkaimolok (a far more beastly version of the Sycanesti peoples) and the huge Thortharrak (a race of cold blooded lizard men who cannot tolerate heat) respectively. The former can't sail and the latter are uninterested in doing so... usually.
Anyone interested? This world's about six months old, so there's a LOT of established backstory for several locations in the world. I've kept journals of my players' exploits, too, which are available to read at the game table. If someone wants in, message me on Skype, my skype name is in my signature.
