DoodleMoogles Sketch Dump

Post by DoodleMoogle » Tue Mar 03, 2015 9:29 am

Alright guys. I've been so busy the last couple of weeks doing schoolwork that I have completely neglected my drawings.
Ironic really when I went to an art school. (Oddly enough I've only been doing math the last three to four weeks)
Now that I've graduated I need to get back into the drawing groove and to help me in that I decided to make a new topic for sketching and quick little things.

You guys can all pitch in and give me ideas for quick little drawings.
I'll try to make as many of the ideas that you give me, but they're all gonna be super rough.

I'll start with a drawing I did in an hour while I was trying to get back to drawing.

Moose are pretty cool, and delicious to boot. I like the idea of a druid riding a moose so I'll probably go back to this idea to make a bit more involving drawing.
Anyway guys, if you pop in here you can throw in any idea you have for me to try out.

That's a pretty sweet moose druid.

A bit of a vanity suggestion, but how about a "spider ranger"? Male wood elf ranger riding a large wolf spider. (Based on a character I have in one of the games here on the forum.)

A victim in a spike pit with the forest goblins that set the trap up the top looking down in the pit. Perspective is from the bottom of the pit. :)

I'm fine with vanity suggestions. I'm pretty bad at drawing spiders so drawing all those legs is good practice to get better.

He said wolf spider and there just happened to be a D&D monster that is literally a spider with a wolfs head. That sounded way too badass to pass by.

Also this:

Not what I had in mind, but way bad ass. Would you mind if I were to crop and use it as my avatar?

Now I'm tempted to suggest things I know I'll need for GAL:8 to outsource all the artwork, but it would spoil synch and anyone else on that game that views this thread...

Extreme perspective from below like that has always been really difficult for me so this one was a really good suggestion for a sketch.

If you want to use it as your avatar go ahead. :)
Not being that spider savvy and more of a D&D nerd I immediatly went: "Oh, a spider wolf. He must literally mean a horrifying spider wolf hybrid."
And it so happened when I did a google search for that I got a ton of badass references to use.

Of course you can suggest art that you can use for the game. That just lets my practice stuff serve two purposes.
One or two suggestions here and there is fine, you should use your own judgement on when you think a moment needs something extra.
If it needs to be secret you can always shoot me a PM.

Done. I've got a spider-wolf ranger as my avatar now. :D

I agree the pit is pretty awesome too. Having played a lot of M:TG over the years, that looks perfect for a early version of card art for something like:
Goblin Pit Trap (2R)
Instant
Destroy target non-flying attacking creature.

If target attacking creature is blocked by at least one goblin, you may tap all blocking goblins and play Goblin Pit Trap without paying its mana cost.

Haha, thought I'd give you a challenge!

Now I reckon a goblin and an orc both dressed as cowboys in a Wild West duel/showdown. Maybe perspective is from behind the orc looking toward the Goblin.
Like this: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GgHgQlxLxIs/U ... owdown.png but with more of the orc in shot.

The western setting sounds like a really good idea for a sketch. I'll have to think about that one.

Tonight though I did this.

Yay, sketches!

A bit more perspective practice:

A flying throwing dagger, about to hit someone between the eye. Bonus points for a surprises / shocked face, more bonus points if the perspective is from the flying dagger.

Something easier:

A bunny in a mean staring contest with a carrot seller.

I have no intention in using any of these ideas, just throwing in random stuff.

I'll have to see about that dagger idea. The perspective in a picture like that should be nice and challenging.

Today I did a little drawing of a skeleton

Skeletons are really complicated.

Here's a minotaur blacksmith that DoodleMoogle whipped up for me. He's an NPC that my players just met, so now that they've seen him, wanted to post it in here.

I actually wish I had done a bit better job on the minotaur. He looks super tiny in this sketch because of the short and bulky limbs, but SW was happy with it and that's all that matters when you draw something for people.

The goblins in game would be coming up a bit above where his apron is knotted off, and his forge hammer and throwing axe would be two handed weapons for them... as long as you look at it with that sort of a reference in mind, he's plenty big. :)

Been a while since I drew anything. I seem to have these month long lapses every few months.

I did this today. Ninja turtles man.

Drew a thing.

[thumbnail]http://orig00.deviantart.net/7438/f/201 ... 8so69y.png[/thumbnail]

So there is this finnish tabletop roleplaying game called Praedor. It's a classless system where you build your character however you want.
You can also pick from a list of advantages your character has from their life before their adventuring career began. You must choose the same amount of disadvantages to balance it out.
There is a advantage called animal companion where your character has a trained pet and even in the case that the pet dies they can train a replacement.
There is also a disadvantage where your character is born with dwarfism. This is a very sever penalty to physical abilities, running speed, climbing and so on.

Dwarfism gives you a lot of points to spend of advantages, and animal companion is so cheap that you can have three trained animals if you take that small penalty.
I really just love the Praedor system. It lets you do such fun things. Like three highly trained bloodhounds coupled with a crossbow would be such an awesome combination to fight with.

Oeh, how about some characters from the players in my campaign, all together?
A strong half-orc, muscled and quite handsome for an orc, with two longswords, and one of the swords has a rock on the tip (like Excalibur, but the orc just lifted the entire sword).
A young woman with long white hair, long high heeled boots (all the way to her thighs), and a katana with wind gusts around it.
A posh Eladrin paladin, with a greatspear and a large cross on his armor.
A 16 year old boy with (uch) Bieber-like hair, with pebbles and small rocks floating around him and a naive or scared look on his face.
A female druid, with a decently covering outfit, small antlers on her head and short bow in her hand.
All of them wearing blindfolds.

I might be asking quite a lot, so just ignore it if you want to!
I feel smart, but I'm pretty sure I'm an idiot.
