Re: The Great Goblin Invasion (DATES POLL. VOTE!)

We have no set plans. And a dearth of initiative. Pick a date, see if anyone objects.

I would see Wicked or Lion King (I've seen and enjoyed both). I'm curious about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but I've no idea if it's any good.

Everyone here seems to be up for Wicked, though, so maybe it's best just to go with that?

As in, you can go "Oh hey, I want to go to the theatre today!" and go and get tickets in Leicester Square. They won't usually be the world's best seats, but most people don't want to pay the money for nice seats anyway.

And seeing as there's really only a few of us who have committed to dates... it's probably too early to worry about what to see and when. Personally, I prefer seeing things I haven't seen before, but I've probably got a longer list of stuff I've seen than most of you!

@ lin: okay, we can do that, then. Leaves us to decide spontaneously what and when to see. =)

The one thing that is going to be a pain for me is travel - driving/parking in London is poo, and there's no train station in my town from which I can just pootle over on the train. So I might be a bit restricted on how late I can stay, times I can arrive and stuff. That and when I get tired/sore/irritated by crowds, which happens pretty suddenly when it does happen, I become terrible company, so I kind of need the ability to retreat from a hot/loud/full-of-people area if necessary >.> But I will definitely be around for Doing Stuff and Meeting People.

Can always retreat into a park or somewhere :) Also, I'd recommend finding a station that's close to you, and driving to it and taking public transit in.... parking is a total bitch and I think it's insane to bother driving in London!

Do London theaters have an expected dress code? Broadway did, it's been significantly relaxed in recent years.

Nope, no specific dress code. You see lots of people going in to watch in jeans and just normal every day clothes.

It's getting closer to going guys!!!!!

It might help us out if we swap phone numbers and stuff soon, just in case. After this week is done I'm going to see about getting my old pay-as-you-go phone up and running to see if that works... and to then figure out what the hell the phone number is. And to see if I can find the card to recharge. hahaha.

It's fine by me, I like the idea. That would mean I'd get to follow the atmosphere even if I'm not able to attend. I guess that would mean sending private messages? (or in my case reverse Google searching my pic in that particular thread :P)

If we make it a private event, then no one else should be able to see it, right?

I just tried to make a fb event. I'm not really sure how it works, so I am going to try to experiment a bit.

I'm not sure what would work best for me. I'll have my phone, but calls are really expensive. So is data if I don't have wifi (I pay per 25 MB). And texting is more expensive, too. FB chat is probably cheapest and easiest. But I don't know how everyone feels about giving full real names (as FB generally does). Then again, if we're all meeting up in person, I suppose that's not a huge deal. And if it's a group there's no obligation to send or accept friend requests (which can sometimes be an imposition).

I tend to find that wifi is fairly easy to access, but I think it's good to have contact information just in case. Like... my phone will be with me all the time. If I really need to get in contact with someone, I will. I never go beyond texting though, haha. It's just useful to have backups, especially in case there are any changes in plans (which is likely to happen with there being a group of us). I doubt I will have access to Goblins during the summer as I'm not 100% sure yet if I'm bringing my laptop with me.

I'll likely leave my laptop at home. (Or, rather, at my sister's place in MA.) But my phone has more memory, processing power, and battery life than the laptop I took to college. So I consider it a palmtop computer.

Good point, since the chances of me actually attending are pretty slim, I'll abstain (is that the correct word?) myself from joining a the hypothetical FB group. No use in me following your every move :P
I would like to hear about all the fun things you folks have done afterwards if I'm unable to attend, if you guys are ok with that of course :P

Having hung out with some people who visited the UK from America before and wanted phones for local stuff at local rates: you can get a crappy little phone that does calls and texts for £5. It's pay-as-you-go, so you put credit on it and then you can text or call til that runs out. There's also then a completely throwaway number you can use if necessary.
