I wish I had found this thread earlier. Also, I wish I'd be used to use more smileys other than the generic ones...
You guys are awesome.

Re: Emoticons
Out of curiosity, was there a problem with that? I liked it a lot more than "smiths silly smiles" because, you see, you get the assonance in addition to the alliteration and also the added ambiguity - are the smileys silly or is Zathyr? Well both of course!Zathyr wrote:Oh and upon thinking on it, "Silly Smiley Smithy" would be an acceptable title.
I needed to take a break yesterday and set GIMP down for a while. My eyes were bothering me. I'll probably go easy on them today as well, although I am itching to work on some of my ideas, so we'll see.

Sorry Zathyr, normally I try to make custom titles conform with the naming conventions from the comic. I can change it if you really want, but I don't think it fits as well.

I was trying to figure what exact emotion it's trying to convey. I know we have ones which are close, but still.

Okay, then.
Edit: My personal preference is still the first one. It's kinda sad, kinda bemused, kinda resigned. A little embarrassed.
So much emotion in one little picture!
Edit 2: Comparison:

Re: Emoticons
Awesome! 1 is more bemused, it looks like he's watching his kid try to do something and fail... but in a cute way. 2 is more of a "Really? You're going to do that? Okay then, your loss."
We also need a  smilie, maybe a head shake one, and a sighing one (either relieved or exasperated).(Just to add to the to do list)
Edit: and a :raisehand: one.

Re: Emoticons
I started work on a thumbs-up one, but I didn't like what I came up with. I need to go back to the drawing board.SeeAMoose wrote:Awesome! 1 is more bemused, it looks like he's watching his kid try to do something and fail... but in a cute way. 2 is more of a "Really? <-- the original, not mine.
I know what I did wrong though and I just need to take the time to fix it.
Hmm. Facepalm, headshake, and sigh. I'm not sure how to do a "sigh" smiley.
I kinda want to do a celebration crowd one and/or a balloon one. I don't have a ready example but I've seen them.

Re: Emoticons
There's a Klikie thumbs up, but it's kinda hard to tell that's what it is. It could serve as inspiration though.

I had a small moment where a panicked smiley would have been great, but I settled with using the shaking nervous one instead

In the Games subforum OOC thread I made a mustache smiley, because evereything is better with a mustache... or was it bacon?

Re: Emoticons
Or you can wait for me to finish my version, which is mostly done but I've been busy with other things. It'll be a longer animation and not so violent, truer to my intentions when I started on it. I also worked on a big thumbs-up and thumbs-down emoticon but the hand blocked the ear and didn't look good. I was planning on toying around with a stretched-out arm (roughly parabolic) bringing the hand out past the ear if you're looking for ideas, Tin.TinSoldier wrote:BTW, you can use this as-is if you want, but I plan on tweaking it a bit more tonight.TinSoldier wrote:It's late. has a lot of pieces of its animation that could be adapted for things like a head shake or sigh, but just be aware the colors on the devilish smileys are a little different - darker shades and a bit different shading pattern. I would recommend not working directly from that image, even copy/pasted, unless you're going devilish, but feel free to use the frames as a reference.
