Just a little bop on the noggin. We already have a nice stabby emoticon if you're really looking to really go off. But really, I want my bonk to be mine. I started it and I intend to finish it.

Absolutely -- I didn't mean to step on your toes. You have dibs on it. I'm looking forward to seeing your version, and I have some other ideas to play with. It's just that this one was so darned fun!

I mean, I just got to looking at the static version last night :bonk: and the muse just... bonked me on the head. And I had fun doing it too, but I plan on re-doing it anyway.

Now that I've learned a lot more about the process, I should rework :confetti: as well.

Is this what you had in mind?

Or am I totally off base? Regardless, the Dies with a book is on my "ideas" list.

Edit: Still refining.

Yes, that's adorable! And appropriate for the latest comic. :D Image Thanks, Tin!

I need to find a smilies mod with a collapsible list of all smilies, don't I?

I like them both.

Second one, but the hands are a bit... weird? Do we need that many fingers or that big of a hand to convey the message?
Nevertheless, they are cool2!

Hands are hard, I admit. These probably look weird because they are rotated.

I started with this: Image and rotated the hands. I did edit them a bit. I could probably lighten up the hard edges.

The funny thing is that the hands in this one  Don't look like anything zoomed in for editing, but when shrunk down they look pretty good.

I'll be looking at some hand-drawing tutorials this weekend and practicing a bit, because I need to be able to do a good hand for .

The clapping hands I snagged off another emoticon. They looked good enough. There are some tricks to coloration and shading in pixel art - things that you wouldn't even notice at the normal resolution that look weird zoomed in. It's ... hard to explain it all. Contrast effects with darker colors can give the illusion that things are happening that aren't really. Look at :x for an example around the mouth. Barely noticeable, but the darker bits make him look like he's frowning more. I usually don't bother with things quite that subtle but sometimes I think it looks significantly better if I do.

I ran into some of that for the goblin love smiley I did up above (where I stole the hand from the clapping goblin anyway).

Image

I had success in adding some depth to the hearts, and I had some success in adding shading to the rose, but more improvement could be made I think. Even in that level.

But yes, I've noticed that making something as small as 4x4 or 6x6 pixles look detailed is very hard to do.

Do any of these make a better base to start from?

With feet. And words.

All but the first one are kind of a different style, though.

I think this could work if it was green and a bit smaller. We have a woot and a confetti throwing smiley, they have similar hands, so it would fit in.

EDIT

Quickly made a goblin recolored version as a concept for our design masters: Image

Image is actually kinda cool. I like the size and shape of the hand.

Image is one I found on DeviantArt which might be a good starting point.

I was going to work on a ninja smiley (unless Zathyr is already on it) but I couldn't quite get one right. It's on the list.
lingrem wrote:Face palm smiley anyone? haha. I keep wanting to facepalm these days.
It's on the list. I need to work on getting hands right, but there are some good examples linked above. Feel free.

My current to-do list:
Facepalm
Headshake
Sigh
Raisehand

Thumbsup <- Done, but needs improvement.

Senior Vorpal Kickasso (Goblin w/boar's hair moustache)
Jiggly Drowbabe

Dies hugging a book

Panic
Ninja
Yes, I know I've only listed two characters above and that I need to add more.
