Ouch, but nice escape! For now.
Escape? I assume Xykon will follow them immediately. Still, it's nice to know that Durkon managed to put a crack in his skull.

Well, Redcloak seems to have it slightly harder to follow. Xykon can, and will..

So far he doesn't seem to be trying. Maybe he figures he can just teleport down to wherever the dwarves are, but this gives them an awful long time to hide somewhere he can't easily detect them. The last time he encountered part of the party was V's scry-and-die attack, and the only reason V escaped there was because of O-Chul's friendship with the MOTD and his manifestation of previously unguessed psionic abilities. Without a similar DXM, I don't see any logical reason why Xykon alone, let alone both Xykon and Redcloak (and Oona if she's interested, and possibly even the wolf) shouldn't be able to capture Durkon and Whatsherface.

Good distraction!
And luckily it worked.

I just wonder if Xykon and Redcloak have been led into one of the dungeons they have not already done, and then will recognise they've been mislead with additional red crosses?

It would be fun to see Xykon try to figure out what went wrong with the X system. :chuckle:

It would even be better if that Dungeon would keep them busy for a long, long while.
While the rest reforms and awaits a spell-depleted Redcloak and Xykon back.

Indeed.
And Belkar's "new" anility doesn't come as a surprise to me.
When learning how tor read tracks, you incidentally also learn how to cover them, how to make fake ones (and which signs are signs for fake ones, or covered tracks),...
And then it's just a tiny bit of research to find out how to throw dog/wolf noses with pepper.

Handy spell.

I wonder if Haley left the head at that spot on purpose, or whether the trap now activates and deactivates every 20 seconds.... With buzzing sound.
Thus alerting our favourite foes where our favourite heroes are.

uh-oh, that goblin Redcloak is really perceptive.
So, what will he devise to mark the done dungeons in future?

I was wondering when they'd find out about MitD's extra markings. Good that they don't know he did it. I hope it slows them down a little.

+1

Great formulation, Redfeather!

I love how Haley apparently removed the trap, and thus made them enter the one real dungeon...
And how the Goblins, Xykon, ..., all overlooked the trap.

That's what happens when you forget to bring a rogue.

I wonder where they went.

Well, Belkar failed his Spot check as usual, but I didn't; Roy's sword came back as soon as it was clear of the barrier, so the trap clearly doesn't disintegrate anything. It may however be a Stargate situation, where you can stick your hand through the event horizon and then pull it back, but once you're all the way through, there's no immediately coming back.

My hope is that Xykon is now so thoroughly lost that we won't see him again until the Astral Plane "fortress tomb thingy" happens.

This is starting to look more like a worthwhile dungeon for high-level and/or epic-level characters. A bunch of holes in a mountain didn't seem that impressive, but a bunch of holes that teleport you all over the place while fooling you into not knowing it happened? That's much more on Kraagor's, Serini's, and Xykon's general level.

I find myself hoping that Serini doesn't know jack about magic herself, she just knows how to hire the right people to make stuff like this happen.

Indeed. This dungeon is the mother of all dungeons.
Also, the portal could send you to any other dungeon on top, thus plugging in the other dungeons of this realm into this dungeon.

Also: any door now appears to have two dungeons behind it: the normal one, and the one if you deactivate the teleport trap.

And potentially there are more teleporting traps for every door in the mountain wall.

Anyone care to do any math of how many "one-off" dungeons there are?
And how would you keep track of how many times you've been past a door and which traps you defused to get to which dungeon?

Also, just reread the page:
when Roy leans through the barrier, he lands in a different tunnel, a dead end tunnel. So the teleporting barriers work multiple ways.
BUT we can see the bird flapping in the tunnel the bird landed in.

Nice way to get behind your opponent...
I wonder if Roy bothered to look behind him to see where the portal leads to.
Because from the vision, it seems that the dead end portal will also lead to the same tunnel the trap-portal leads to....

But then, we know that the portals visions deceive, as they saw Xykon, but the portal leads into the dead end tunnel, and not to the entry Xykon was seen.

Just hang On!

So, the trap will be set.

Q: when they dearm the trap, what will happen with those in the path back?
Maybe they can force-split the other party this way?
