<If you're meeting with Leviathan, then I should probably come, too,> Born adds. It has everything to do with how he keeps getting nudged towards interacting with beings of unimaginable power, and nothing to do with how worried he is about letting Cut talk to Leviathan alone.

Cut and Studies
"Do you have any historical sites that have to do with the founding of the city, or any places with interesting magical effects? This whole city is interesting, but we don't have too much time, especially if we are going to meet with the librarian later, but those would be the places i am most interested in. Well, besides the library, but i think the plan is to go there last."

The tall royal looks down upon Studies with a look of disdain, as if wanting to say that it'd be a cold day in hell before he starts answering questions- Which turns into an angry scowl as Cut further comments.

"I advise you to not insult your queen, at least she has power unlike Triton who did not deserve his spot on the throne."

"Did not deserve his spot on the throne?! He ruled this city with grace and skill! Something I don't expect to see from HER!"

"...And you can either keep that tone, or start doing your job and give advice so that maybe you can help see that continue."

"Like... Even if some fuck tries to do a coup or something, which is stupid considering my bloodline is supposedly this fucking huge thing in your culture, helping me isn't going to make a difference to that, it's just going to help if it doesn't..."

"Yeah you go girl, give him some sass..."

The advisors scowl lessens only slightly- Though after a moment of hesitation, he spits out-

"To first answer your question-" He says, giving only the briefest angry scowl in Studies direction, "The most historical place concerning the founding of the city is the center of the city. The statues and plaques with them tell the basic of our founding... The whole city center is, in fact, a bit of an artifact we keep around... As well as being necessary, considering the fact several things are impossible to do within the... Atmosphere most of us constantly live in." He says, giving a brief glance to the wall of water not too far away.

"If you'd want a full explanation of our city's history in detail however, I fear you'll need to consult someone with more knowledge on the matter. I could, but I very much doubt I am going to have the time to do so."

"As for other magical places of interest... There's plenty that we know off and consider in our terrain, but many take as much as a day of travel... Within close proximity we have, of course, firstly the stone in the center of the city- Gifted to us by Hermes, lord of wind. We owe a great debt to the man, Asatun bless his soul... Then there's a small group of sirens not too far off the city. We have a pact to leave each other alone, besides occasional trades and arrangements."

"And then, off course, there's the great gorge... Not too far away from the city, to the north."

"That's where Leviathan resides. And where you'll need to go."

"About that. You want my advice? Go there now- Leviathan is not one to be kept waiting. Soon as you come back, hopefully we'll have found something to rid you of this damn... Hangover before you get back, after which you'll need to rehearse your speech and prepare to give it. I guess I will make sure that the archmage doesn't screw THAT up."

"Now then, if she must see the levithan then I shall come with, incase something is to happen."

There is a small amount of hesitation from Nami, before she gives an approving nod, and after some quick arrangements, including getting someone to escort them there. During this time, Born quickly made his way there, joined by the rest of the party.

Though, as everyone stands before the wall of water, he comes to the slow realization that maybe just a single water-breathing potion might not be enough to actually last him there and back...

However, seeing this, Zil instantly offers his rune to him- Stating he has no desire to join the goblins there unless they require his assistance there.

Hears, Drowns, Zil and Born

"So, hypothetically speaking, what would happen if I tried to break down this? That lava elementalist said it had... it had a 'powerful chaos' inside of it. And he said it was sentient, like an artifact, and that one day it would turn against us. I was going to get rid of it, since it's unreliable anyway... but could we try breaking it down, using the essences we get to make a similar item, and just getting rid of whatever else was inside of it?"

"Hmm... Yes, in theory, you should be able to do so. Keep in mind that, as you might need to replace some parts, most notably the mana stone, there would be a slight cost attached to doing so."

"I also feel it pertinent to note that I do not believe the mage was referring to the item in question... But rather, the spell inside it. It seems that this spell has an additional chance of striking out at friends rather than enemies, not to mention the fact that this is not the cause of the amulet's side-effect still triggering, which is still a possibility. With some kind of sentience, that could indeed be a disaster waiting to strike. However, simply replacing the spell should remove this risk."

"With that being said, breaking it down is a viable option, and I believe that some essence could be gathered from the spell stored in question as well- Though using that might, in fact, be equally risky. It should also be noted that with the essences retrieved, it might even be possible to reforge the item in a manner that it does not have it's unfortunate side-effect. Though I suspect that would require a more powerful catalyst, which would have some cost attached to it."

Following that, Born asks the guard to escort him to the castle- He seems a bit negligent, surprisingly enough, instead asking if you'd like to check out any other interesting places, such as the church or market- But after asking a second time, gives you and the others a quick escort to the castle.

Studies is somewhat confused if he is wanted or even invited to visit leviathan with Nami, but assuming clarification shows that he is coming along, he activates his rune and swims after Nami and the guide. He tries to resist swimming as fast as he can to test the limits of this different form, and mostly succeeds.

Everyone
There is a slight pause as eventually, the goblins activate their runes- A slight burning feeling washes through their body as they do, leaving a stinging sensation mostly at the ears, neck hands and feet, though not truly hurting. Examining their hands reveals them to now be coated in scales, their hands and feet webbed, and a quick examination of the neck revealing a set of gills as well. It doesn't take much longer for the goblins to notice how easier the environment suddenly seems on them, the pressure that was bothering them earlier now seeming to be no problem. Besides this however, the goblins seem to have stayed mostly the same- Retaining their general posture and color.

Following this, all carefully took the step forward into the wall of water- For just a moment it's tough, as if a lot of resilience is put up as you push through- But after some initial shock, you find yourself in the water, almost as easy as if you were on water- And with a small kick off the ground, you no longer find yourself walking, but rather swimming. Quite effectively too, as you quickly navigate yourself through the castle, out into the streets- The houses here mostly seeming to be grown out of coral, though it seems to be the "rich" part of town, many clothed in more exquisite forms of clothing than the leather you had seen earlier- If only some form of chainmail, or the many layers of woven cloth. Glass too, seems more prevalent than you'd find in a regular city.

But eventually, passing all these houses, most coral, some made out of stone or clay instead, you arrive at the city wall. Built out of clay, though large algae with large, fluorescent bulbs on them are grown all along them, lighting it up- Several guards on what seems to be fish with a large spike on their head swim around it's perimeter, though you find no trouble of them as the gates are already open- And pretty insignificant when you think about it too, considering you can just swim over. You figure it's more of a "border" than anything else.

And then, finally passing some fields which you figure could be nothing else than "farming", you arrive in nothing- The pure, open ocean, many fish to be seen, though less than to be expected, considering how "close" you are still to the city- And most fish that seem to be around have no intents of getting too close, quickly turning around upon spotting you- For a brief moment it looks like something about the size of the horse has any ideas, though it eventually turns away as well- Not too much farther, you can see a cloud of dust in the water obscuring further visions, and feel the water becoming slightly hotter- At which point your escort stops, saying that you and Nami can do the rest of the trip alone, as he'd wait there. You push through, feeling blind in the clouds for about a minute, before it clears up again.

In about a 100 meters in front of you stands a massive chasm, spanning at least a mile wide, with no end sides to be seen through the fog- A warm "draft" seems to be expelled from this part of the gorge, keeping the area surrounding it turbulent. Strangely enough however, the water in the immediate area is crystal clear- And light too, even with the dust cloud covering the area, and hence blocking what little sunlight would usually pierce to the bottom of the ocean.

The goblins, as well as Nami are left a bit clueless on what exactly to do there until they spot something small near the gorge- Identifying it as a small table and a pair of chairs hewn out of stone, they move closer- Though still slightly confused.

"...I'm not sure what to expect. Leviathan was... Big, right? So shouldn't we see him or something? Is he down that chasm maybe?"

"Ah, no dear- Don't worry about that."

Arriving at the table, the voice resonates through everyone's heads- Though it takes a moment for any of the goblins, or Nami for that matter, to take notice of where the voice comes from.

"Down here, dear."

And that's when you notice- Down on the table, there's a small, peculiar blue crab, with purple pincers and four small eyes jutting up and looking straight at you.

"I presume you are here on behalf of the leviathan." Cut begins, though quickly cut off by the small crab, raising one of it's four eyes in the direction of the goblin.

"Ah, no, a misconception dear- That's me. I'm leviathan." the crab says, one it's pincers tapping it's own shell- Though Nami seems equally unimpressed.

"...That can't be right. I mean, Leviathan is supposed to be this huge, whale like creature and, well..." she says, gesturing with one hand to the small crustacean, figuring that to be more than enough indication of what she wishes to say.

"Yes... That is very true dear. There is a key part you're missing, however-" the little crab says, trailing off to the side off the table, soon clipping underneath it and disappearing from view- As suddenly there is an actual voice from behind the goblins.

"I choose how I appear."

Turning around, the goblins meet eyes with... Another merman? If rather peculiar- It's form seeming to be rather androgynous, perhaps leaning ever so slightly towards "male", the figure sports long blue hair, slowly crossing over into a shade of purple instead. His eyes seem to be two slightly different shades of blue, and two eyes are "tattood" beneath each one- One being slightly more greenish, while the other seems to have a more rust-like color. All in all however, the figure appears surprisingly young.

"I usually take this form during these meetings... It's... Easier. I never do know what to pick during the first meeting though- If I pick this, you might think of me as an imposter. If I take anything of a larger size, you'll be left thinking of me less than what I actually am."

"And if I'd appear in my true form, that could be a bit... Imposing."

"Well, i'm not sure if she wanted to talk to us at all Cut, Nami's the one she wanted to talk to.

"Not that there's anything wrong if you do want to talk to us, of course. I am rather curious about...Well pretty much everything about you. How you can change forms, what other powers you have, why you are so important beyond just being powerful...I understand if we're not allowed to know all of that though.

Anyway, how are you?"

"Well, i'm not sure if she wanted to talk to us at all Cut, Nami's the one she wanted to talk to."

Leviathan doesn't give a kick as Studies mentions "she"- Meaning he either got a lucky guess, or "she" simply doesn't care. She does give a slow nod as Studies finishes his sentence, however.

"Yes... That is very true..."

"I... It isn't a problem, is it? I mean, they can leave if-"

"Oh, no, no, it isn't an issue dear. This is more of an introduction than anything else, really. Merely keep in mind I will appreciate privacy in future meetings."

"Before we get onto that though, I am interested to see just who you brought along."
Leviathan says, approaching the mergoblins.

"I can see that you're not merfolk, after all..."

"It's... A long story."

Leviathan starts to one side, examining the goblins one by one, starting with Touches who was trying to shy away to the side. Leviathan seems to perk up slightly with a smile- "Ah, yes, Mother Gaia's children. That makes sense. Not for all of you though..." she says, his vision trailing to the side as he now examines Hears- Raising an eyebrow before continuing on without a word, seeming to have nothing to say to Cut either, though sparing her the eyebrow, before stopping with Born, giving him a slightly confused look.

"...You've been in places you shouldn't be, haven't you?"

With a slight headshake she continues, erupting into a brilliant smile as she passes Drowns, though not sparing any words- Finally ending her inspection with Studies.

"And a follower of Ziz... You goblins are a varied bunch, aren't you?"

And seeing how Leviathan ended talking with him, Studies takes his chance to ask some questions, curious as he is.

"I am rather curious about...Well pretty much everything about you. How you can change forms, what other powers you have, why you are so important beyond just being powerful...I understand if we're not allowed to know all of that though."

"...Shouldn't you... Ah, never mind. I always forget that times have changed..."

"To begin answering your questions... I'm the great water guardian. But as that probably doesn't mean much to you, let me start answering your questions by asking one. You're a mage, right? A wind elementalist, too?"

"Tell me- How does your magic work?"

"I thought the sea witch was meant to keep Leviathan in check, not..." he trails off, looking at Nami, and then back in the direction of the guard who refused to come any closer. "If the sea witch's power was given to the merfolk by one of Asatun's people, then you're really on their side, right?" he asks, turning his attention to Leviathan. "What's going on down here? Why do they think you're some kind of monster?"

As Studies struggles to find a proper answer to Leviathan's question, Born is quick to interrupt- Now extremely curious about a certain matter.

"Wait, wait- The water guardian? As in, the Water Guardian? With a capital 'G'?"

"I... Suppose that would be one way to say it, yes."

"I thought the sea witch was meant to keep Leviathan in check, not..."

"What? Oh no, no..."

"If the sea witch's power was given to the merfolk by one of Asatun's people, then you're really on their side, right? What's going on down here? Why do they think you're some kind of monster?"

"...A monster? What gave you the impression they view me as a monster?"

"I... Suppose I can be intimidating, at times, but still..."

"Well... The whole impression I got was that you were very powerful and not to be ignored and that it should be me to do it rather than anyone else, but... Not that you were something that I'd need to keep in check, rather that... You'd help us?"

"Ugh, I'm sorry- Flipping headache."

"Ah, that is very true dear, in a certain sense- I'll explain more in a moment, I want to deal with these particular questions first."

"About that headache though... Poison isn't exactly my terrain... But healing is-"

Having said that, Leviathan briefly raises a hand, a small current picking up in the water- Washing away whatever headache the goblins still had, finally ridding them of that nuisance.

"Now... To begin answering your question- And yours as well, mage... Yes, I do consider the merfolk my allies, of sorts. More as in that I consider them my... Chosen people."

"I believe you are misinterpreting something however... Most likely by the fact you seem to be aware of the... Other guardians. Something not many people do... Or should know."

"...Allow me to tell you a little story. I have been around for a very long time. In fact, I was formed together with this plane. It's always been deep-rooted into this world, it's connections with the elements- Our birth is just a testament to that fact."

"And that also means that I was around when Asatun was but a mere mortal walking on this plane."

"So you need to understand... While I do consider the merfolk to be my ally, this is not because I... Work for Asatun or something similar. While we are bound by the same force, we are independent from each other."

"In fact... Allow me to tell you a little bit more about those other guardians. They have no power of their own- They merely live on borrowed power."

"You see, Asatun always has been a very modest man- And even when he rightfully deserved his title of godhood, he felt unworthy to make all such grand decisions on his own. So, at times, when someone... Unique were to die, he would intercept them on their way to heaven or hell- And offer them to work for him as advisor- Or as you call them, guardians."

"They're not entirely powerless... Asatun distributes some of his power to them. But unlike me... And the others... That is not their own power."

"Now to explain my function I guess... Let's do so by answering my own question first. How does magic work."

"I don't blame you for having trouble to find an answer to the question... It's a hard subject for many. After all, for those who are well versed in magic, it comes naturally. But the essence is this. There is a power within all of us. And you all, as adventurers... That power will only grow- And as it does, so will your abilities."

"However... If you were to use only that power, you would soon feel drained. As a mage especially, with repeated casting you would soon lose your ability to cast until you have rested. And yet, all of you find that you can use your abilities at will, besides for your most powerful ones, do you not? That is because for a large part, you draw the magic you need straight out of the aura- A virtually unlimited supply of magic, right at your fingertips- Though too hard to keep grasp on for long, instead a mage directly influencing it... Without even properly realizing it."

"However... Things have not always been that way."

"There used to be a time on this plane that the magic aura was far less vibrant- And mages relied almost solely on their internal power. It was also during this time that certain things were far harder to come by. If not impossible as mortal kind lacked the means to create them... Such as an elemental tome."

"Instead, those few wizards that sought to learn more about the elements... They came looking for us. And those we deemed worthy, we gave the power to mold our element."

"But of course... Times have changed. Now, many of us have been asleep for centuries, all but forgotten- And for those of us who are still awake, our importance is often but a mere fragment of what it used to be."

For a moment, you can swear you see Leviathan give a slight thoughtful, sad frown- Before he returns to his usual clear expression.

"Anyways, I apologize- I'm probably boring you with all these history lessons... And considering that you'll probably be able to use all the time you can get my dear-" he says, turning to Nami, "We should probably get to business..."

As the Leviathan washes away his headache, Hears feels like a fog has been lifted from his mind. And, for the first time since he woke up that morning, he actually feels like he wants to say something, rather than just listen and follow. Which he does, though he raises his hand meekly instead of just interrupting the powerful shapeshifter.

"Wait.....before we move on, can I just make sure that I've got this right?"
"So...there are two kinds of Guardian."
"Your kind are the ones that have existed since the world was made, are tied to a particular element, and have their own power source thing that I don't really understand fully, but it's not really important. In your case, you're the Water Guardian, and have power over the oceans - does that mean the other ones are Fire, Air, Earth, and so on? And in that case, is the Forest Guardian one of your kind? Since I think Nature is an Element too?"
"But, then there's the other kind of Guardian. The kind that embody a particular concept, like Order, Chaos, War, and so on. They're dead guys who got empowered by Atasun, so they don't have a lot of their own power, and there are as many or few as Atasun wants there to be. And....they also don't have physical bodies, and can only exist in people's heads?"

"Is....is that all right? Or did I miss something....?"

As Hears meekly raises his hand, Leviathan gives a brief look before turning away again, looking like he will simply ignore him. Then with a sigh and a small headshake, as if he'd regret it, he directs himself at him- "...Yes?"

"...Yes. That is correct. Mother Gaia and her children. Though considering you would know if you were referring to mother Gaia, I'm guessing that whoever you know is one of her children."

"There is one of us for each of the main elements... Titan for Rock. Hephaestus for lava. Nova for light. Ziz for wind. Nimbus for thunder."

"...And finally, Bahamut for fire."

"I.. Can't say I approve of some life choices, especially since his aspect seems nothing for you... But to each his own."

"But, then there's the other kind of Guardian. The kind that embody a particular concept, like Order, Chaos, War, and so on. They're dead guys who got empowered by Atasun, so they don't have a lot of their own power, and there are as many or few as Atasun wants there to be."

"Yes. That is absolutely correct."

"And....they also don't have physical bodies, and can only exist in people's heads?"

Saying this, Leviathan raises an eyebrow in apparent confusion- Before his eyes suddenly widen, as he bursts out in a moment of laughter-

"Hah- Now THAT is very interesting. You're right, they don't have physical bodies... But they do not live in anyone's mind."

"It is however, very interesting to hear that Asatun has assigned some of them... There must be great things in store for all of you."

"Nami dear, I do hope that you'll help these goblins on their way- I believe that it might be very much interest to do so."

"...Yeah. That was the plan."

"Is....is that all right? Or did I miss something....?"

"I think you got it kid."

"So you can grant those ability to move water? Hmmm."

"Well... Yes, but not exactly."

"Perhaps you should ask your friend about that matter?"
he says, now gesturing to Drowns.

"On that note though, only a mage can fully unlock the potential of this kind of gift... On which note, Nami- I'm sorry, I haven't had the chance to say I'm sorry about your mother yet. She was a fine woman. Even if she did have some... Temper issues."

"...What."

Leviathan unleashes a small chuckle- "Then again, I guess that's always been in the family. I still remember the very first... Sea witch, and how I granted her the power of my element. Oh, and what temper she did have... Gave me a new eye."

There's some hesitation and a small frown from Leviathan before he replies.
"Well... As I said, times have changed. So no. Not necessarily- Just as your friend here has no obligation to worship me." he says, indicating Drowns.

"With that being said... In a certain sense, he does remain your patron. Do with that knowledge what you wish... Though admittedly, it wouldn't matter much. Ziz has been one of us to be asleep for a long time..."

"Anyways... We should get to business dear-"
Leviathan says, turning back to Nami.

"What little business it might be. As I said... It's mostly introductions and arrangements."

"As the water guardian, it's my task to keep the ocean protected from outside influence. However... Admittedly, there's very little that can actually impact said balance, with how massive the oceans are, and how self-sustaining it is... The circle of life adapts itself, after all."

"So, only extremely rarely do I actually need to take an active role. In most cases, I take a passive role. As an example- Sometimes I would refer fishing ships to another location- They'd end up with a greater haul, and meanwhile the overpopulation would be dealt with as well."

"So... Sometimes these meetings will exist out of similar matters- In that I have a request to make. More often than not, you'd probably be able to make some form of profit out of it. More importantly, however, I consider your kind my chosen people. So at times, these requests might simply be with intent to help you, somewhat. Even if I will never actively offer assistance, mind you."

"And... That's everything?"

"Yes... Pretty much. Perhaps we could see about helping you acquire a new kraken one day soon- Considering one of them has now permanently been relocated it appears."

"So... That's all we had to come here for?"

"I'm sorry dear- As I said, it was mostly introductions. Rest assured, next time we'd meet would actually have some importance behind it."

"Hm... Yeah. Yeah, okay."

"And these... Requests. Are we... Obliged to do them, or...?"

"..."

"No. Should you choose not to, there's nothing I would do. That being said, as I said, often it's beneficial for all sides."

Following that, with no one else having anything to say, the goblins soon make their leave- Saying their goodbyes, they soon make their leave, back into the direction they came from- Leviathan soon disappearing in a cloud of dust behind them.

Exiting the cloud that surrounds the area, they soon are in clear waters once more. However, the escort that brought them there is nowhere to be seen anymore...

Just before everyone makes their leave, Cut raises a final question-

"Wait. You should know something. People are attempting to destroy the universe. We may need your help."

"...I'm sorry dear. That is not my jurisdiction... Or my problem."

"It's the circle of life, after all."

"It is not the circle of life. And it is in your jurisdiction. Everything will be destroyed. Including oceans."

"It is not the circle of life. And it is in your jurisdiction. Everything will be destroyed. Including oceans."

"...I'm afraid the circle of life is larger than you believe it to be, dear."

"And it is far from my role to intervene in it."

"In fact... I couldn't if I wanted to."

"I do apologize."

"...But don't despair. If Asatun has chosen you... There's hope yet."

"The best of luck in your quest. And goodbye."

Having said that, Leviathan steps into a passing cloud of dust in the water- Having disappeared by the time it passes.
