As is the practice on the first of the month, those who have managed to scrape together their fees are collected in the large flat building which serves at the CityÔÇÖs Pok├®mon Centre.

This morning, Richard is the only youth present when Nurse Hecuba opens the door and squints to the east. ÔÇ£Looks like itÔÇÖll be a sunny one again,ÔÇØ she offers with an easy smile, reaching up with her right hand to slip a long, orange sideburn back behind an ear, as she steps back from the door. ÔÇ£Got your supplies together, Richard?ÔÇØ

Nurse Hallam looks up from his paperwork as Bennet Nole and Phil Robinson enter the only building in the City with thick, metal walls. ÔÇ£IÔÇÖll be with you in a few minutes, boys. Annie beat you here.ÔÇØ The man flashes a grin to the pair before turning his attention to the girl on the other side of the counter.

The morning after First Thaw started to melt the snow at Midnight Anchor, the sun rises on a new year, into the windows of the raised homes of the City of Sext, and also beneath them all, casting criss-crossing shadows upon the spongy, frost bitten ground.

Upon the balcony of the building with the most, and thickest support columns, Nurse Haracha is seated, looking slightly to the north, where the only Trainer to get their license that day lives.

The morning after First Thaw started to melt the snow at Midnight Anchor, the sun rises on a new year, but anyone with their blinds closed, safe within the ancient stone walls that still support the homes of the City of Mattins wouldnÔÇÖt likely notice until they were in a mood to get up and face the one- to two-feet deep snowdrifts.

As per usual, likely due to the fact that Nurse Hyroniemus (ÔÇ£Call me Hyro.ÔÇØ) never seems to sleep, the man is sitting in the common area of the Pok├®mon Centre, awaiting the arrival of the monthÔÇÖs new Trainers.

1st Day, First Month, 1694

The morning after First Thaw started to melt the snow at Midnight Anchor, the sun rises on a new year. It is a bit difficult to see with the snow-capped forest to the east in the way, but the Pok├®mon Centre is open, as per usual. ItÔÇÖs housed in a cluster of large, hollow trees in the centre of the City of Vespers, the largest of them containing the front desk.

When George Fairly enters, he finds two other new Trainers there, both younger. The girl seems to have just hit ten years (though she looks younger, the Pok├®Ball on her belt and the Pok├®Dex in her hand ensure sheÔÇÖs at least that old). The boy seems to be twelve or thirteen, impatiently glancing at the door every few minutes, and tapping his foot while the girl ignores his pointed glare.

Nurse Hadassah (Nurse Sarah to most people) is nowhere in sight.

"It's ok, Nurse H. It's first come first serve." Bennet says, looking around for a place to sit. "I'm just excited that this is finally happening!"

Chuck was up early, having elected to slog through the snow and think things over once more rather than wrestle with his dreams. There was a calmness in the still morning air that always comforted him, though he was soon driven to the center by the cold. From what he'd heard about Nurse Hyro, he'd already be up, so Chuck figured he might as well get this over with.

Chuck enters the Center, Nurse Hyro? Hi, I'm Chuck from the Drunn family. *Chuck holds out his hand for a shake* So, how does this work exactly?

ÔÇ£Yes, it can be dangerous out there, even with Pok├®mon,ÔÇØ Nurse Hecuba agrees, ÔÇ£but youÔÇÖre starting ahead of some new Trainers, by acknowledging that.ÔÇØ

The woman motions over her shoulder and waits for Richard to enter before she closes the door and moves to the counter opposite the entrance. ÔÇ£Come this way and we can get you your Starter, Pok├®Dex and the Egg which holds your second Starter. Then IÔÇÖll go over a few features on the Pok├®Dex that you might find useful.ÔÇØ

She offers another small smile before adding, ÔÇ£I can also look up the date of the next caravan, if youÔÇÖd like. You might even be able to go along for free, if youÔÇÖre willing to pitch in during any battles. Alternatively, you could always stay within a few hours of the City, after checking the weather reports, and see how you fare.ÔÇØ

When they are both beside the counter, the Nurse reaches over and picks up a Pok├®Dex. ÔÇ£First things first, though,ÔÇØ she states, handing it over. ÔÇ£I need you to put it into that slotÔÇöÔÇØ she motions to a slot on the Trainer side of the counter. ÔÇ£ÔÇöthen state your name and hometown. The Pok├®Dex will take a voiceprint as you do so.ÔÇØ

Annabelle Martin gives a shy wave to the boys when they speak up, and then nods to Nurse Hallam and murmurs something that sounds like ÔÇ£Thanks a lot.ÔÇØ before she steps away from the counter. ÔÇ£Sorry, you can go now. IÔÇÖll finish later.ÔÇØ

The Nurse shakes his head slightly and pushes the paperwork to one side, only to pick up two more stacks from the side. ÔÇ£Well, you heard Miss Martin, boys, whoÔÇÖs volunteering to be first?ÔÇØ the wink sent their serves as a reminder that thereÔÇÖs very little TerceÔÇÖs head Nurse takes all that seriously in life.

ÔÇ£Haracha,ÔÇØ the woman corrects, but not unkindly. ÔÇ£Come on in, Viction, it may be sunny, but itÔÇÖs still a bit chilly for my taste.ÔÇØ

Once inside, the woman makes her way to the counter opposite the entrance. She makes her way around the counter and into the back of the Centre, reappearing a few minutes later with some sort of clear container under her arm, a Pok├®Ball in one hand and a Pok├®Dex in the other.

Juggling all three items, she manages to get the Pok├®Dex on the counter and nods towards it as she settles the container on the desk behind the counter, making the ovoid inside visible for the first time, as well as the compact Pok├®Ball inserted into the top of the container. The main body of the Egg is a dark brown, with a jagged section of light brown about a fifth of the way down the shell, and all the way around it.

ÔÇ£Mr. Drunn, of course,ÔÇØ Nurse Hyroniemus answers with a respectful nod as he gets to his feet and moves to the counter opposite the entrance. ÔÇ£IÔÇÖm going to hand you your Pok├®Dex. You are to put it into the counterÔÇÖs slot, then state your full name and hometown. Meanwhile, I shall go in the back and retrieve the Pok├®Ball and Egg which have been set aside for you to collect today.ÔÇØ

"Okay, cool. Do you know what is inside the egg by any chance? I want to become a breeder and that type of information is important, you know. I am hoping that one day I find Arceus and breed it. Partially due to how hard that task would be and also the chance to say that yes I have indeed gave birth to a god. That or just have a geodude breeding farm.

When the Nurse returns Chuck places the Egg into his pack, thanks Hyro and moves outside and under the eaves of the Center before releasing his new partner. Well hello there little guy. I'm Chuck and we'll be traveling together. Chuck crouches down to get closer to the monkey's level as he introduces himself.

Nurse Hecuba looks thoughtful. ÔÇ£WellÔǪÔÇØ she offers, eying the Egg in the glass case that sheÔÇÖs just placed on the counter as Richard removes his Pok├®Dex from the slot. Another thoughtful moment passes as she looks at the mostly light brown Egg and the jagged band of black near its summit. ÔÇ£The colouration isnÔÇÖt quite right for it, but it reminds me of an EeveeÔÇÖs Egg.ÔÇØ

She holds out a Pok├®Ball with a smile, ÔÇ£Congratulations on becoming a Trainer, Richard. Take good care of your Panpour.ÔÇØ

She motions towards the Pok├®Dex. ÔÇ£If you send her out, point the Pok├®Dex at her, and press the red button on the bottom left, you can pull up her information. Generally, you need to be within fifteen or twenty meters, depending on weather conditions, and have a clear line of sight, in order to scan a Pok├®mon.ÔÇØ

He reaches over to the three remaining Pok├®Dexes on the counter and seemingly takes one at random, handing it over to the lad. ÔÇ£Just put that in the slot and tell it your complete name as well as our City. IÔÇÖll be back in a moment with your Pok├®mon.ÔÇØ

True to his work, the man is gone less than two minutes before he returns with a glass case in his hands, holding a Pok├®Ball to the top with his chin in an attempt to stop it from sliding to the side each time it makes contact with the ÔÇÿBall atop the glass case. Inside the case is a dark brown Egg with a zigzagging white line making its way around the summit.


ÔÇ£Oh, yes, Bennet,ÔÇØ Annabelle barely whispers, clutching her new Pok├®Dex in her hands, as if fearful that it might slip away. ÔÇ£A male Swinub and a femaleÔǪÔÇØ the tips of her ears, poking out of her short brown hair, turn a bright pink. ÔÇ£WellÔǪ SheÔÇÖll be a Floatzel eventuallyÔǪ Unless she doesnÔÇÖt want to, of course.ÔÇØ

He looks up at the young man who is a few inches taller than him, ÔÇ£Do you have any questions, Mr. Drunn?ÔÇØ

None that I can... actually, you wouldn't happen to know a good place to find passage to the mainland, would you? As he speaks, Chuck places the egg into his backpack and closes it up. He also tucks the Dex into his belt. Once he receives his answer, he hoists the heavy thing onto his shoulders Thanks and exits the Center, PokeBall in hand.

Outside, he pauses for a moment to let his new Pansear out and crouches down to the monkey's level. Well hello there little guy. I'm Chuck and we'll be traveling together. Chuck considers the creature for a moment, before scanning it with his PokeDex and standing back up. How about I call you Scorch? ... Right then, let's go Scorch. Chucks reviews the entry as he heads out of town.

Chuck is heading whatever direction the Nurse indicates in responding to his question. If the Nurse's answer does not specify a direction to head, Chuck will be going East, or the nearest to East road that exists if doing so would help him avoid the knee-high snow.

Scorch should be light enough to walk over it, unless it is really light and fluffy. If not Chuck'll walk in a way that leaves a trail behind him.

"I know! Just thinking about more forms makes them start to cramp up." He says feigning a grimace.

"Oh good. You had me worried there for a few seconds." He reaches forward and accepts the Pokedex handed to him. Looking down to the slot he slips the pokedex in then says Phil Michelle Robertson, of Terce."

If anyone laughs at his middle name he quickly retorts, "My mom wanted a girl ok!"

As the nurse comes back in with the pokeball and egg, he quickly reaches forward for his new pokemon. "Huh... Interesting looking egg. If you don't mind me asking what kind is it?"

Bennet Nole

"Wow! You got to choose something else? I got a Pansear...I think. Those two sound pretty cool-Michelle?" Bennet asks, hearing Phil's middle name and giggling a bit. After Phil's response, he hold up his hands. "Hey, I meant to offense. It's just a little funny. I got middle named after some old guy in my family I've never met, so it's not much better."

"alright then. Go Pampour. I guess I should name you. Uhh.. Aqua. Hmm.. I wonder...So what other features does t have? Does it have a map? " Richard starts scanning the egg. Yes the egg."What? You said it can scan pokemon and this is a pokemon. Or soon to be one at the very least."

Well My parents didnt have enough money to let me get the monkey and Egg Annabelle mutters, her lips clearly moving, though barely any sound comes out.

Nurse Hallam eyes the Egg. ÔÇ£WellÔǪ It seem Eevee-ish?ÔÇØ he seems uncertain but shrugs and motions Bennet forward. ÔÇ£Collect your Pok├®mon, Trainer Robertson. Once Mr. Nole programs his Pok├®Dex I can show you another Egg that seems just shy of Eevee.ÔÇØ

The man waits expentantly for Bennet to make his way forward, then he hands over a Pok├®Dex offers the same directions for the slot, and returns this time with an equally dark brown Egg, this one sporting a light brown line, instead of PhilÔÇÖs white.

See Generally, an Eevees Egg would be a shade of brown between these two, with an off-white section.

1st Day, First Month, 1694

Well, that depends, Mattins head Nurse replies. If youre looking to end up in the general area of Lauds, then youre heading mostly south. Theres someone there who runs some ships across to the beaches north of Midnight Anchor and Lauds. Its a relatively short trip over the water, but a week or more through the Mountain, or along the Beach, to get there. Alternatively, if you go north-easterly, you can find a similar service on the far end of the Marshes. Itll take about a week to get there as well, but only a matter of hours over the water. If you go north, you can get a ride to somewhere east of Terce The Captain isnt the best at navigation, but youll get there in about half a week, if you cut through the Rain Forest to get there.

The newly dubbed Scorch grins and leaps up, easily taking his own Pok├®Ball in hand while his Trainer is distracted scanning him. When heÔÇÖs next sent out, the Fire Types looks a little more sheepish and a little less impish. He just waves to his new Trainer and offers a happy, ÔÇ£Pan. Pansearrrr!ÔÇØ

Meanwhile, the Pok├®Dex pipes up: ÔÇ£Pansear, the fire monkey. While not the only Fire Type primape, Pansear maintains its title due to its seemingly close relation to Pansage and Panpour, the other two Elemental Monkeys.ÔÇØ

Aqua looks up at Richard, her expression passive, but alert, as the fur on her head ripples like a pond in a gentle breeze. ÔÇ£Pour,ÔÇØ she offers, tilting her head to one side and half-lifting a hand in greeting as the Pok├®Dex is pointed at her.

ÔÇ£Not one I would count on,ÔÇØ Nurse HecubaÔÇÖs voice holds a certain note of mild scorn as she points at the Pok├®Dex. ÔÇ£Technically, it can show you a map of Midnight Anchor as a whole, and even where the various Habitats are in relation to one another, but the network that sends you information after scanning a Pok├®mon is not that great at pinpointing someoneÔÇÖs exact location, so youÔÇÖll have an idea where you are, butÔǪ?ÔÇØ she shrugs.

ÔÇ£Panpour, the water monkey. Along with its cousins, Pansage and Pansear, Panpour makes up a trio known as the Elemental Monkeys. They are the most closely related Pok├®mon to have absolutely no evolutionary link to one another.ÔÇØ

Once the Pok├®Dex is done, the Nurse gives it a look and then continues as if she had not been interrupted. ÔÇ£You can pull up the map by pressing the green button in the top right. If you hold down that button for at least three seconds, it will also give you a weather report for the area. If the weather is not matching what the Pok├®Dex is stating, it would be a safe bet to suspect a Pok├®mon might be using a weather effecting Move somewhere nearby.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£On top of that, your Pok├®Dex will hold your wager against other Trainers as well as being able to hold your spare money. That is helpful since even $50 or $100 can get quite heavy if itÔÇÖs just made up of smaller coins.ÔÇØ

She just shakes her head in slight amusement as the Egg is scanned. ÔÇ£As a hopeful Breeder, I think you can appreciate how allowing people to simply scan Pok├®mon Eggs might take away some business.ÔÇØ

"The business is not in the randomness of the eggs, it is to make more of them. People purposely leave pokemon in day cares to get a specific pokemon just so that it can have moves or something, and after a while one can recognize which egg is which. Unfortunately I don't know very many egg types. Does the pokedex have a way of keeping notes or something in case I want to write something down to remember? Because I kinda already forgotten what you said about the bus earlier."

Looking over at Annabelle, "Thanks for letting me go first. You have no idea how much I've been waiting for today."

"I...Ohh...Umm...Right! Pokedex!" Bennet says, hand scratching the back of his head, embarrassed for his apparent foot in mouth moment. He quickly jumps up and grabs the device, plugging it in and rapidly speaking. "BennetUlyssesNole Terce! So how does this dohicky work?"

[Runsaround]

Well, time to talk to the machine. Taking out her new shiny pokedex, she enunciates My name is Viction Imperii Pernon, I am from... and an impish idea strikes her suddenly, the consequences of which she is completely unaware. I am from Prime.

I... have no idea why I did that. Huh. Well, I should have a look at the pokemon I just got. It is my first, after all. Viction releases her Panpour, with a flash of light that reveals a stoic, silent tall water monkey. You're a pretty cute thing, nothing wrong with you. I think that I'll call you Spoutsy!

Nurse Hallam shakes his head and laughs, ÔÇ£I can understand your excitement, Mr. Nole, but you need to clearly and correctly state your information. What would you do if you couldnÔÇÖt cure your Pok├®mon because you get to a Centre and couldnÔÇÖt confirm your identity due to a faulty voiceprint?ÔÇØ For once, the man seems almost completely serious, though not at all unkind.

1st Day, First Month, 1694

Chuck finds that even the elevated, flat paths our of Mattins are covered with roughly half a foot of snow. A crust has built up on the sides, though, so Scorch is able to move along, idly making snowballs that he proves to have rather horrible aim with, if his inability to hit any of the large rocks the pair pass is any indication.

Things are rather uneventful during their first half-hour of travel, but just as the last of the stone building are left behind, Chuck spots movement to the west, and Scorch turns to look to the north, then the northeast...then Chuck thinks he sees something to the south, away from the City.

It takes a few seconds, but soon two of the shapes are distinct enough to make out, though Chuck has never seen anything like them before! The other two Pok├®mon, if that's what the movement are, will likely not be near enough for a perhaps as long as another minute, by the new Trainer's best guess.

The morning after First Thaw started to melt the snow at Midnight Anchor, the sun rises on a new year. Much like every morning, though, it takes a few hours for the light to reach those living in the shallow crater that houses the City of Lauds.

ÔÇ£Come on thenÔǪÔÇØ Nurse Harmon mutters under his breath as he finally sees movement in the distance. The Pok├®mon Centre is situated in the exact middle of the City, so the man has a good view as he moves around the building, seemingly not bothered by the crisp air or the relatively light layer of snow on the ground.

Nurse Hecuba shakes her head slightly, ÔÇ£Perhaps that is what you believe everyone goes to Breeders for, but there is also business to be made in identifying Eggs which are produced overnight by regular TrainerÔÇÖs Pok├®mon. Especially if they are not sure which of their Pok├®mon have mated.ÔÇØ

She looks thoughtful, ÔÇ£As for the notesÔǪ No. ItÔÇÖs not a device create for Trainers to store their own information, but to retrieve information. You should be able to get some paper at the Pok├®Mart, if you feel the need to have some. IÔÇÖll wait to check the caravanÔÇÖs schedule until youÔÇÖre ready, in that case. You can also view the time when checking the weather.ÔÇØ

While the Humans speak, Aqua is slowly moving around the room, looking at the seating area and the door to the overnight rooms, but never losing sight of her trainer all the while.

Having not actually handed over any Pok├®mon, since she was waiting for the girl to program her Pok├®Dex first, the women just level her gaze at the girl.
