(( Gomz IS through the portal. He's just not willing to make like a combine and take down half of the farmer's corn field. Something not likely to endear him to the natives. He'll be on standby next to the portal. Besides, if Gomz comes along and it's someplace like Kansas, having a scorpion the size of a Volkswagen trundling along with Slem isn't going to make him any friends either.))

Miasma looks at the odd trees and tries to eat some of them.

Gomz starts patrolling around the portal, staying within 20 feet. He casually snips a plant or two while circling and guarding.

Miasma chomps a plant, the stalk is kind of dry and flavorless, but there is some sort of seed pod that is wrapped in dry, papery leaves, which has some yellow, crunchy things in it that are pretty good to his mule tastes!

There is a flutter of wing beats as a cloud of dark birds moves across the sky. They too flight to the right of the moon hanging bright in the sky.

Gomz tries nibbling on the crunchy yellow seed pods to see if they meet his current form's approval.

The crunchy yellow things fall from Gomz mouthparts.

Underslem hears a rustling coming from the direction that the birds flew up from. There is a low growl and a shushing sound. A soft glow of light is moving through the field, roughly in your direction.

Underslem messages what it sees to it's siblings.

Underslem considers the growl and the shush. It wonders what that means.

Underslem moves his meat lips to replicate the sound... it tickles! He thinks it's a way to tell someone something, without using words, but way less efficient than how he can talk to siblings.

Underslem tries shushing back to see what happens.

Gomz gives up on the plant pods as a bad deal. At Slem's message, he orients himself towards the possible new threat and tenses in preparation for charging down the newcomer.

"Halloo? Is someone out there? Just want my carved gourd back, I know you kids took it. Just return it to my porch and we'll just let this pass, alright?", a thin voice calls out.

An animal bays a howling cry from near where the voice came from, and it is subsequently shushed.

Underslem likes its lips, mouth already watering,

<It speaks with its meat mouth and I can also speak with my meat mouth! Wait, I bring them to us!>

Underslem moves cautiously towards the voice and says at what it guesses it a normal meat volume,

"Halloo to you! I have not either the gourds or the kids. I am lost in the tall plants here and am looking for my Master and food?"

"I don't know you, and I don't know your master, please stop wandering around in my field, or I'll have to sic the hounds on you!"

"Sick...hounds?"

Underslem works through this a beat the asks,

"I am lost in this... field? Can you show the way out? Are there... kids in this field too?"

Underslem's mouth is watering...

<Trying to bring food to me and then back to you. It has sick hounds.

Gomz sighs and prepares to charge to the rescue. <<Why is Slem always hungry? Slem eats more than everyone else.>>
