Re: Tests and Trials

Post by Rodgeir » Thu Feb 14, 2019 4:30 am

As Ves lifts her foot to take a step right after explaining about goblins she notices an odd tugging as she nearly trips but recovers without a problem. Looking more closely she can see that small vines have somehow grown over both of her feet, just loosely enough to only catch when she would take a step.

Lurn notices the odd jerky movement but can't tell why Ves stopped.

"Shit... No I'm fine. Watch these vines though, they're grabby."

Ves steps carefully around the vines and takes a slightly harder look to see if she recognizes it (or can figure out how to ID and avoid it, and maybe where they grew from).

"Grabby vines? ... Were they there before? If they're animated, maybe I could convince them to be less grabby. Usually plants aren't able to respond to requests, but magic ones might be able to."

They vines look like thin little tree roots. If anyone looks down at their feet they will see that they also have been loosely wrapped up in tree vines.

They don't seem to be all that strong but they are more than enough to trip you up.

Jolly's looks down at his feet and then quickly to an empty spot on a tree and mutters,

"Could have sworn there was a giant owl or somethin' there just now."

Jaq looks around with narrowed eyes into the trees. He has a hunch. "Fey brethern, come, let us not play games. Can we see you?" He says this in Elven.

((Persuasion at disadvantage from Jaq))

At first silence meets Jaq's request followed by hushed whispers from all sides. The roots fall away from everyone's feet and then the whispers stop.

Kroshav shifts uneasily, looking around them. "Think grabby roots disappearing owls would spook owlbears?"

Light tittering laughter wafts from the trees and slowly fades into the distance. Everything appears to be normal, no more vines at your feet or odd sounds in the trees. There is, however, a large (about a yard long) golden lizard where Kroshav had been standing only a moment before and Kroshav is no where to be seen.

Mild confusion but that passes quickly. Then it is mostly just moss against his belly. An urge to move to a sunny spot and/or catch a bird and squirrel soon flash across his mind.

Then he notices a few large animals nearby. Could be dangerous, but one may be small enough to eat? Best to hold absolutely still either way. They won't see him.

((Feel free to react as a large lizard Spider!))

Joe Average arcana [1d20+4] = 18+4 = 22

"Feck! Pol'morph!" Joe looks around trying to find the sourse. "Pixes me thinks."

Based on what happened magically Joe is nearly certain that was what was around. She doesn't see/feel anything that would suggest they are still around. And did that lizard just give her an appraising look?

The golden lizard lips slowly crack open, a tongue slowly flicking out to taste the air in the direction of the food sized one.

((How much slower are his thought processes?))

"No, Joe, if it is pixies or something close, we don't want to anger them. This is just there version of a prank. It should wear off. I hope." He adds the last part much more quietly.

1d20-4 = [4] = 0

Little food make sounds bunch times. Bigger food make sounds back.

Not want be food for food.

Kro-zard freezes as the animals in front of him begin calling back and forth. His eyes flick to the sides assessing escape route should they be needed.

((Ah, Burns fixed the triple post and ruined my dig at him. :chuckle: ))
