Ves raises an eyebrow at the fuss.

"I'm confused by this place. Everything's ransacked and falling apart. We've been here for half an hour crashing around and no-one's come to investigate. If this is the source of our water problem, it might have affected whoever set it off down here. Or they dumped it and ran. At any rate, let's not screw with potions, and let's try not to dump them on ourselves any more, ok?"

((It is pretty loud where you are due to the vortex so the noise you're making hasn't been to extreme in comparison. That said Jaq and Joe did just make a significant ruckus.))

Jaq looks at the wall behind where the shelves were and sees a few bolts still sticking out, presumably those put to hold the doomed, overburdened piece of furniture in place. There are still a significant number of unbroken bottles around the room but there is also a lot of broken glass.

Ves adjusts the handkerchief over her mouth and steps away from the door.

Are there any weird smells coming out of that room now there's been a big old spill it was it just empty vials that smashed?

The room was musty before and now, after a number of bottles with something in them have emptied their contents on the floor, it is a cacophony of odours. You get a whiff of something loamy then something citrus mingling with an astringent undertone among many others. There are a few rather vile smells but by in large it smells...okay?

((Nature check if there is a specific smell you are trying to pick out.))

Nothing really specific I guess, except: does it smell like the poison that went into the wells (or any other recognisably unhealthy scents)

There is something or something's that smell rancid and you are vaguely reminded of the smell from what was dumped in the well but nothing exactly like it. Maybe it was because there was a mix dumped in the well?

As you are deciding what to do you hear a raised voice from the north,

"Master?"

No one is visible yet to Lurn.

"Everyone get in the room here," hisses Jaq. If they can all get into the workshop room before the 'servant' sees them, maybe they can pull him into this room and 'interrogate' him without too much fuss.

Ves hesitates for a second, not wanting to be trapped in a room of glass and chemistry.

"Go. I'll keep watch and provide a distraction if we need one."

Ves ducks into the space by the door on the left and presses herself against the wall, rolling her "lucky" stone over in her palm as she calms her breathing and finds a little crack in the wall to peek through so she can see whoever this is who's coming.

Stealth: 1D20+2 = [19]+2 = 21

Everyone but Ves enters the storage room full of broken glass in hope of jumping whoever is coming. Ves decides to hide just outside, back pressed against the north wall, shielding herself completely from the view of anyone coming down the North/South corridor. The sound of the vortex is more than enough to block any sound of her breathing.

Ves hears, "Master? Did you drop something again? Is it burning a hole in anything?" from a male voice getting closer. The voice is definitely tired sounding. Those in the room hear muffled versions of the same with only Lurn getting it all.

The voice begins to grumble something that Ves can't make out and the others can't hear at all. The grumbling becomes more distant and Ves can hear very distantly the voice saying something, pausing, saying something else. It is quiet for about a minute before Ves hears a loud click and the vortex sound becomes significantly louder for a few seconds then she hears a door being slammed and another loud click. A few seconds later Ves begins being able to hear the sounds of boots on stone floor approaching.

((The perception request above will inform how much of the grumbling/other you will be able to make out.

A human of middling height walks past Ves's hiding place without even glancing to the right and opens the door to the storage room. Those in the room see the man's expression go from a look of very mild worry bordering almost on boredom turn into a look of confusion then surprise. His eyes dart as he rapidly takes in the three of you and then the shattered bottles all around you. His mouth opens as if to say something before his eyes lock onto Jaq's rapier. Rather than speaking he starts to slowly close the door again.

Jaq nods to Ves's words, and lowers his rapier to a less threatening position pointing toward the ground. He stays quiet and waits for the man and Ves to enter the room and close the door.

The man startles at hearing Ves behind him and makes a squeaking noise. He half turns towards Ves, fear now clear on his face.

"Who?"

Ves is able to gently guide him into the room and shut the door, the man seemingly too shocked to resist.

She nods towards the well.

"Anyway, we're looking to fix it."

"P-poisoning? What? Our well is poisoned?" He backs up to the wall, jingling and knocking over unbroken bottles. Despite the warning/assurance from the giant the man (who seems even larger next to a halfling) seems unconvinced of your trustworthiness.

You all get a good look at him. You would guess he is in his middle to late forties and shaves his head. He wears a robe that, while of good quality, is fairly old. There are a number of spots where repairs are evident. His hands are shaking but they are clearly covered in splotchy scars.

((Persuasion rolls if you are trying to persuade him to do something or insight to read him/intentions))
