And the four Ancients stood upon the grounds of the Material plane. Two from the Shadowrelm and Two from the Feywild stood within the destroyed forest for they had seen what destruction the blade Zagoth, the soul blade had done in the hands of the Outcast. Thousands of souls now were trapped in that blade. And with it the Outcast had almost destroyed all...

But Zagoth had been used against the Outcast and his demon horde by the Hero...now they too were trapped within the soul blade. So the Ancients knew that they could not destroy Zagoth for that would release the Outcast and his demon horde...Zagoth must be left as the eternal prison of the Outcast and so they called upon the Moon Goddess for her assistance and the five of them created a vault to hold Zagoth.

But a vault like no other, for this would not be some dungeon or maze that mere mortals, or even a demigod, could invade and steal the soul blade, and its prisoners...but a living portal/prison, one that could manipulate the very fabric of space itself It would be able to hold Zagoth outside of realm of any moral or immortal soul. Any who entered it would find themselves not merely being accosted by the guardians within the prison, but the prison itself would be a temporal/spacial maze of changing, invisible walls, portals and traps....ever adapting and changing to destroy and defeat those that seek Zagoth...It would have the ability to arm creatures and turn them into guards...provide them with magical weapons...provide them with magical powers...I

And so they created the Pool of the Moon...It was a living child of the Moon Goddess and the Ancients themselves infused with magic, intelligence, and wisdom...they gave it the ability to transport itself from place to place when the waning moon set for the last time...It glowed like its mother, silver and ghostly...and when the full moon appeared overhead it would show to all that Zagoth was safe and secure within its depths...though most mortal fools might think it was only a mere swim down into the depths of the ever quiescent pool to grab the weapon...not knowing that the very distance they thought was a few hundred feet crossed the very dimensions of space and time...

As time passed the Ancients and the Goddess turned to other things...other disasters, other causes...and the Pool of the Moon was left to fend for itself. It first turned creatures of the forest that came and drank at it into its minions...to scout...to hunt...to turn ethereal and guard its chambers and traps... But then it began recruiting more creatures to go out into the forest, the plains, the mountains...to seek and hunt down those who would seek the Pool...to seek Zagoth....and destroy them before they could find it....but in these endeavors the Pool this it became bored with merly sending out magical creatures to hunt...
For one day elves found the Pool...and the Pool found these beings were smarter, and cunning...tools to be used not just to seek those that would try to steal its treasure but go and find new places...and other creatures...to entertain the Pool as well as guard it...

And the elves...they made the deal...for the elves wanted power...they wanted magical weapons...they wanted magical spells to kill their enemies...If they must guard the pool to do so...so be it...if they must tell tales to the pool...so be it...if they must sing songs to the pool...so be it...if they must walk the world...so be it...if they must interact with others beings...like non-elves...(icky, their so simple and they smell and they eat with their mouths open...and they eat weird crap...and they make silly sounds pretending to be language...and they look funny...and they sing funny...and they dance atrociously...and their manners are non-existent...and the Moon Pool just slapped me upside the head so I'm going to stop complaining now...) so be it*...but there was power in the pool...and the elves wanted that power...whatever the price

But the Ancients did not forgot the Moon Pool, they were concerned of its growing wanderlust, its desired to be entertained and the actions of the ever arrogant elves...so among their number of elves selected to guard the Pool...the Ancients would select a few to be their representatives, to follow a calling call upon them not just to serve the Moon Pool but the light itself...
