Re: D&D 3.5 game Now with players without characters!
You could probably get to the same end via multiclassing. There is a druid spell for summon swarm spider. Get ride skill ranks. Be a good quality necromancer and Make your own undead monsterous zombie spider to ride. Etc. Or, I think you could get all 3 of those via Dread Necromancer, necroplolitan, spellstitched, by level 8. And that is just off the top of my head. There are probably other ways to do the same things. Look into drow, drider, loth touched, and ARANEA for more spider themes. Dont forget arcane magic users can cast web. There is the spider climb spell too. Now, spider themed may not be optimized, but that is the price you decide to pay for the theme.spiderwrangler wrote:Ok, thanks Theis2... I just figured that this class wouldn't be a go...
Clerics have domains: drow ->spiderform at 5, pestilence -> summon swarm at 2, and poision at 4, spider domain is full of good things. And if you absolutely need it, there are ways to get an extra domain. Not to mention that cleric can make undead too, or stack with DN.
Oh yeah, spider domain is what you want. Ride a spider as a 3rd level spell, i.e. by cleric class level 5.
You could also try to be a lycanthropic spider, but that gets expensive in terms of levels.

Yeah, I'm wary of trying to force it by cobbling together from a bunch of things, as I'm not that experienced and don't want to try to make it happen and end up with garbage.

Dude, just go straight cleric then. Take the spider domain. What is not to like? Everything after that is gravy and optimization, and frankly cleric is good enough that you don't have to mess with it.spiderwrangler wrote:Yeah, I'm wary of trying to force it by cobbling together from a bunch of things, as I'm not that experienced and don't want to try to make it happen and end up with garbage.

Re: D&D 3.5 game Now with players without characters!
There was some concern from someone playing a paladin about evil aligned members joining the group. While I don't view spiders as evil (and they are classified as neutral), the cleric spider domain falls under Lolth and drow, which I was less interested in playing as.

True, Loth is the first choice for spider domain, but she also has Trickery as a domain with disguse self spell, and disguse skill, and bluff skill, so you could go undercover, probably successfully.
OR, you chould hunt down Selvetarm as a god with spider domain in thier portfolio. (I've not looked them up.)
OR, you could try to convince the DM that you come from a tribe devoted to the ideal of spiders, which is not evil at all, and therefore should have access to the domain.
Or some of my earlier ideas. DN does not have to be evil, but the smell of zombies might make convincing others of that ... dificult. After that though you may have to go multiclass hunting. Unfortunately, D&D associates certain monsters with good, and certain ones with evil, in terms of theme, so avoiding the conection between spiders and evil is harder.
You might even be able to customize the spider domain to turn it a bit more toward good (requires DM approval). Swap insect plague at 5 for spider only spider form from drow. Allow spider curse at 6 only versus evil humanoids, with maybe an additional curse spell like aspect to it. Limit the summon swarm to spiders only. Refluff creeping doom to spiders. And then take the Good domain as your second domain. You'd be a spider apologist, putting on shows educating people about spiders. A traveling naturalist, looking for new spider species. But like normal spiders, people probably ought not to antagonize you. Etc.

Despite Monstrous Spiders having an alignment of Neutral... sigh. Selvetarm is a undergod to Lolth or some such, don't think I'd want to go trickery and undercover. Not sure how easily conceivable theis is, but spider tribe sounds interesting to me, may let the DM weigh in.ThroughTheWell wrote: Unfortunately, D&D associates certain monsters with good, and certain ones with evil, in terms of theme, so avoiding the conection between spiders and evil is harder.

Well, clerics are supposed to be able to choose ideals to follow instead of gods, but yes, it does require DM approval.

I've been talking with Theis2 through PMs, been getting ideas on what sort of character to build.ThroughTheWell wrote:Well, clerics are supposed to be able to choose ideals to follow instead of gods, but yes, it does require DM approval.

Re: D&D 3.5 game Now with players without characters!
Hey Guys, haven't been on since monday ^^
No worries about the evil thing, i'l take something that fits, Chaotic Neutral i think, a tad towards good might be in order as well.
After a chat with Theis i'm playing a changeling rogue ( they're really good at disguises and social stuff) So i'l focus on the disabling of traps ( perhaps a tad of larceny as well) and speaking my way out of trouble.
If no one else is going to pick it i'l grab Diplomacy, but if someone wants it i'l skip it and pick something else intimidate, perhaps.
I'l see if i can chuck up a char sheet today

Re: D&D 3.5 game Now with players without characters!
You forgot to write your base saves into the sheet (+2 fortitude base save and +2 will base save)
Heal is selected as a cross class skill in the sheet while it is a class skill (Just uncheck the box near the heal skill).
And you haven't done your spells yet. (the save is 13 for 0th level spells and 14 for 1st level spells). (you can cast 3 level 0 spells and 2 1st level spells + one first level domain spell.)
You haven't chosen a deity or domains yet.

Everytime I think of Jasper I think of 1. Twilight vampire and 2. Jasper the bumbling burglar from 101 Dalmations.
