Yeah, that sounds about right. I think they tweaked the rules after AD&D to keep high level mages from abusing the polymorph spell. I mean, kind of anticlimactic to turn Tiamat into a mouse and then feed it to the cat. Now having the mouse turn back into a very angry 5 headed dragon again after being ate? There's an interesting story... (poor puddy tat! )

But you could grab the frog and run deep into the mines and then throw it down a hole. Once it poofed into its original shape it might get stuck down there.

I think true polymorph can be permanent, but also like a level 8 or 9 spell and there are saves to mitigate it. It's also unlikely it would work on an enemy that's actively fighting since it takes an hour to stick. It's an option though

What if we were to do a temporary polymorph, then use it's weakened form to do a permanent one, though?

If we true poly it into anything, it should be gold/platinum. That way we get moneys out of it.

No, we should just transform it into a chicken, and then keep the final boss monster as a pet.

Why a chicken? Why not something slightly less delicious?

Nah, we want it to think that if it ends up being just a bit TOO annoying, that we can always just get a nice fire going...

I'm sold. Seems like this is a solid plan to be put into action around in about 10 years?

Take or take another additional twenty years, and sure.

Ulmwin's the most likely candidate to be able to get to True Polymorph...

Hahahaha! I have a true-polymorphed creature roaming around my D&D universe that I kind of love
no-one's met it yet though and I might be the only one who finds it funny.
Oh well, maybe one day!

Also not on the druid spell list, so there's that too...
Bard, Warlock or Wizard, 9th level spell, so other than Ulmwin, anyone else would have to multiclass at 4th level in order to get to 9th level spells by 20th level.

Ah well, at least Maji has assess to Regular poly and can be a dragon sometimes

You potentially get access to Shapechange.
Locked out of Archdruid at this point, not that planning for level 20 is all that productive.

Wizard/warlock, huh? Provided Holger doesn't blow himself/everyone up in the meantime, he might be able to do it too. However, I'm not sure I'm willing to bet on those odds at the moment.

Yeah I don't think Nem is going to invest enough in wizardry to get there. One or two levels will be enough I think.

Holger won't reach it either. I'll take 3 or 5 levels in warlock and the rest in sorcerer. I have to 1 up Tess' familiar with a pseudo dragon from warlock at least

So... Monday was the first session in the RL game with my new character, which had been kept largely secret from the rest of the party. My former (gator barbarian) character's body had been claimed by his nation's representatives (we were clearing out a meeting island for a upcoming summit of nations), which view him as a wanted criminal. The tiger-person fighter took this quite poorly, and was in protest of the upcoming parade to kick off the weeks of meetings between the various nations, because while the rest of the party was being honored, they were forbidden to mention my former character in anything but the vaguest terms. The head of the delegation from my former character's nation is the bureaucrat that I fought with in a bar during our session 0 at the start of the campaign (rage smashed him with chairs before picking him up and flailing his guards with him). His presence at the summit was my character's motivation for being there as a mercenary... with plans to kill him.
Anyway, the parade float/wagons were pulled by various exotic creatures, the party's being pulled by a giant elk (my new character, a mek druid (think warforged)). Most of the session on my end was me texting the DM, as I didn't want to reveal myself as the elk (and the bard wanted to ride me). I showed up in character in the last half hour or so of the 4 hour session, to ask them about the dark druid they'd defeated, and revealed I'd been their 'driver' on the float. Pretty good surprise. Anyway... Giant Elk are nuts.

Giant Elk
The majestic giant elk is rare to the point that its appearance is often taken as a foreshadowing of an important event, such as the birth of a king. Legends tell of gods that take the form of giant elk when visiting the Material Plane. Many cultures therefore believe that to hunt these creatures is to invite divine wrath.
Traits
Charge: If the elk moves at least 20 ft. straight toward a target and then hits it with a ram attack on the same turn, the target takes an extra 7 (2d6) damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 14 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Actions
Ram: Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage.
Hooves: Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one prone creature. Hit: 22 (4d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage.

Armor Class 14 (Natural Armor)

Senses passive Perception 14
Languages Giant Elk, Understands Common, Elvish, And Sylvan But Can't Speak

I currently have Expeditious Retreat as a spell in my prepared, which lets me use a bonus action to dash every round for 10 minutes. Giant elk have a 60ft move, and I can use action to dash for at least a few rounds if need be.
180 ft per round, so 30 ft/second = peak speed of 20.45 mph
13.63 mph sustainable speed (for 10 min)
Not impressive by modern standards, but pretty good when a day's travel might only get you 20 miles!

Hah, nice!
How does a warforged druid work? Like, what's the in-universe explanation for a mechanical creation being able to wildshape and such?
