I would also say Dornikal is just as bad as Merric so far if not worse with the protelyzing

So to confirm what I was picking for my level up... The actor feat, vicious mockery cantrip, and the disguise self spell. Although, with Tess' rapid acquisition of the materials required to get identify, Spider, would you say there was enough time for Ulmwin to "unlearn" his own identify spell and replace it with something else..? There's really no need to keep it if Tess can take it without losing a spell, and it could be replaced with something else in turn.

If you'd discussed it with Tess, which it seems you would have, I'm fine with fuzzing the time to where you can swap out. It's not like you're all leveling at the same exact instant.

Yeah, didn't happen IC, but with Tess needing to get his pearl in order to "practice" identify, it makes sense that they would have needed to talk about it... And if it was clear Tess would have been fine taking over those duties, he'd probably have spent the time learning something else.

Now, as for what else, I'm thinking... Healing word? It'd give him a bit of a ranged heal and, while being weaker, it's also a bonus action which would allow him to do something else as well.

Healing Word is a solid option, for the reasons you mentioned. It shines when it comes to getting someone up after they are dropped to 0 HP. If you're using it as the main healing for a party, it's underwhelming, especially out of combat, but the range and BA make it much more flexible than Cure Wounds.
