May need to explore alternatives as well. We can't guarantee that we'll get to use the gate, particularly if the people running on it turn out to be in cahoots with the people trying to get the orb. May want to check for a ship captain who doesn't ask too many questions (may be a job for Tess, given her local connections). Cutting and running across land may be doable, depending on how bad they want the thing. Otherwise that could turn into a running battle.

We are talking a many, many month trip back to where we started and most of our stuff is hanging out. Preference on trying to get back through the portal...

It's in the temple we originally came through. We've been banned from coming back in after the people were completely unreasonable, however

Like I said, they're being completely unreasonable and got all uppity because the portal we came through stayed open for a couple minutes rather than the couple seconds it was supposed to. Not our fault! There's no damage! TOTAL overreaction.

Actually... Sometimes the best place to hide is beneath someone's nose. If we go back to the tree... We might find a safe place to rest without needing to be looking over our shoulder

Hmmm....
That's open to the sky now. Not sure I'd want to be at the bottom of a big open pit, even if the tree is helping with defense. Too easy to roll in obnoxious things like rocks, barrels of oil, etc. Or start zapping the tree top with lots of lightning bolts and let conductivity do the rest....

The description and map when we got to town, to refresh everyone's (mostly my) memory:

The city lies before you, based on the position of the late afternoon sun to the west, the Sanctum is in the northeast portion of the city, on a bit of a rise, with a wall to its back. To the west, a park slopes down to the river. The two arms of the city wall extend to the west, one almost directly west of your position, the other to the south, enclosing the harbor. A broad avenue stretches down the slope to the southwest, heading towards the center of the city. To your southeast, you can see, even higher on the hill some sort of fortress or castle ringed by another wall.

There are various townfolk going about their business in the streets below, and a bit of afternoon breeze carries the scent of salt and harbor from the west.

The Santcum grounds are in the NE corner of the city, and have an adjacent wall with the enclosed compound to the east.

Are we inviting Anders to the party too? Are we just slowly going to keep assembling a larger and larger ensemble of misfits and outcasts?

I mean, jokes aside, if eventually we're going to be starting our own fortress kind of deal...

But he's got to prove his loyalty first by helping us take down the mayor

(( Well, I guess Randy can take a crack at it later if Coljin can't talk them into it. Otherwise, we might be talking taking a ship to Eastmont. Not fast, but a lot faster than going overland. ))

More likely, travel to whatever place is closest that also has a gate.

If I wasn't lazy I'd make a graph of Ulmwin's overall roll results, because I swear, that graph would be heavily slanted to one side.

We can maybe salvage this still though. Maybe.
