((Telling Olly not to touch things is probably a decent policy anyway... :) ))

Olly raises an eyebrow at Julius's comment and is about to retort when he spots his glowing hand and decides to concede the point.

Olly notices the scratch marks and feels uneasy again... He tries to work out where they came from and if they lead off in a particular direction.

Everyone moves to investigate the scratch marks. They're shallow, barely a mark on the stone flooring, and numerous, the marks covering the floor in a small area. It looks more like something heavy was regularly moved in that spot than anything. Other than that, Julius notices the room has another exit on the other side of the large glass panel (Which does not span the entire room. It doesn't block the exit.)

Julius checks the exit and slowly opens the door.

With all the guests gone, Loki allows himself to yawn a bit and stretches profusely to get his blood pumping again after hours of mostly standing still, looking pretty. He glances at a clock if any are around or tries to "manually" gauge how late it is, if there isn't.
In any case, he replies to Mac: "What do you mean, not bad? The amount of trouble we did - or didn't - have to face, how we handled what happened, the pay, or something else?
And I'm good to go, if you are, just let me breathe some fresh night air for a minute or two before we head off. Let my eyes grow accommodated to the current light conditions."

Julius moves around to check the next room, peering through the large archway, which leads into a large empty space, illuminated by the same purple crystals as the hallways. Square columns spaced around the room support the ceiling roughly four metres / 13 feet above, the walls meet the floor and ceiling at clean right-angles, and one of the walls has a large rectangular depression at one corner, reaching vertically from half-way up the wall to the ceiling and horizontally roughly 1.5 metres, being as deep as it is wide. By the depression is a wooden ladder which seems to be designed to extend and retract.

Loki
Loki judges that the time is currently just a little past midnight, a relatively late night. "Well, the pay is pretty middling, but it was a relatively calm night. At the worse bars there can be times that the entire place breaks out into a brawl. It's pretty tense." Mac stretches, letting out a grunt as he does, "Well, Jon probably needs a moment to make sure everyone's closing up properly before he gets our pay together, so we can wait outside. Just a moment." Mac walks over to Jon and has a quick word with him before moving outside with Loki, standing just outside the doorway.
It's only a minute before Jon steps outside to join the two, carrying to small coinbags, "Sorry for the wait. Here's your pay for tonight. Thanks to both of you for your help." The pay isn't a huge amount, but it could be considered a little above standard for a night of working, being enough to make two or three small purchases, or about half of what he would need to save for a bit more serious of a purchase. (So, considering the little figurines which have been bought before... Probably enough for four to six of those (Being hand-made makes them more expensive), or just shy of hiring an amicable Enchanter of middling skill (~rank 4) to handle a custom piece of work.)
The streets are dark on the walk back to the Arena, with only moonlight for illumination, and unfortunate people are seen in places scavenging for coins or food dropped during the day. Some stare at the two men as they pass, but don't approach them. The Arena's gates are locked for the night, but at Mac's call a tired-looking watchman opens the way for them after confirming who they are. Back inside the compound, Mac bids Loki a good night with a clap on the back, heading off to his room for the night.

Julius inspects the crystals (where are they located? The walls, floor, celing?) If they are too far from him, her grabs the ladder and moves it against the wall so that he can get to one of the crystals. He goes to the previous room and gets few chisels and the mallet. He climbs the ladder and gives himself enough space to start trying to chisel the crystal out.

"What happened to not touching anything?! Come in, leave that for now- this looks like someone's workshop and they might still use it. Olly pulls out the ladder and checks the depression.

"I would like to have one of these crystals to study, they are made of condenced magic and knowing how they came to be that way and finding a way to use them would be a boon. I only need one of them."

"And if this place belongs to someone, they'll probably consider it stealing AND be pissed you used their tools. My granddad used to hate it when anyone messed with his tools. Said we'd mess them up and get them lost and stuff. Let's at least make sure no-one's here first."

Loki, who used the time to stretch some more and breathe deeply, smiles at Jon and shakes his head. "No need to be sorry, I wouldn't have left before you had a chance to lock up properly. What about you and the staff, do they have a way to get home safely? Also, should you again need someone to bounce for your tavern some other time, I wouldn't say no to helping you out again."

After offering his hand once more to shake good-bye to Jon, Loki stays attentive on the way home, more out of habit than because he suspects any trouble. He frowns at the fact that there are people not able to afford a safe place to sleep, but resists temptation to pass some of his earnings to them.
At the arena, he takes close note of where the watchman/doorkeeper resides and also memorizes their name for future use. Inside, Loki bids Mac farewell for now and wishes him a restful night. Too tired for any shenanigans, he doesn't even go to check if Malis is still awake, but goes directly into his own room/bunk, reads a page or two from one of the books/brochures about creatures and then turns in.

Olly, Korga, Julius
Julius is about to start touching things when Olly reminds him of what had been said just moments before, leaving the excitable enchanter to pout a little. With that settled, Olly sets the ladder to he can climb up into the depression and look around. It's darker in the corner, but with his crystalline arm there's enough light to see by. The space seems to have been carved out of the stone, though it seems to have been cut too evenly and neatly to match anything he should think possible, even with the most careful work.

Loki
Jon takes his hand, grinning at the big man, "We've all got our routines that we've worked out, mate, no need to worry. If there's another opportunity in the future, I'll definitely let you know."

Loki heads back to his bunk and turns in for the night. With the late night, it's well into the morning by the time he wakes up, about nine or ten O'clock. Since he hasn't been woken, it's probably safe to assume he's free for a while.

After having had some rest, Loki decides to have another go at enchanting again, making more lumps of glass into "affected area markers". He is a little surprised to find that he needs less runes now to get the same effects onto the item and tries his hand to refine the runes - on paper first, without enchanting anything (just writing them), then tests them on one lump of glass.

When he has exhausted his ability to cast for the time being (without getting sick first, preferably, I don't know how good a feel he has for that yet), he will go and look for someone to teach him things - not enchantment! - like combat/toughness, blacksmithing, strength or even medical, starting his search with Malis.

Loki
With time to spare and full of energy, Loki sets to working on his newfound power. It comes as something of a surprise that the same runes seem to hold more meaning than the first time he used them, something he tries to make use of in refining the runes further. When he eventually puts the results to the test, working toward midday at this point, it seems like the result is working a little less efficiently than through the use of more runes, but with a greater sense of stability. Continuing to refine and test his design, Loki gradually starts to notice a faint queasiness in the pit of his stomach, similar to when too much sugar has been eaten, a sign he guesses probably means he should stop.
With his enchantment practice coming to a stop, Loki sets out to find somebody to teach him further. After a bit of searching, he eventually comes across Malis, Alice walking away from them as Malis lets out a sigh. Turns away from Alice, she spots Loki approaching, "Oh, Loki. Busy last night?"
(Loki gains 3SP in Enchantment.)

Loki smiles at Malis. "Well, I got to grab a stranger's crotch and let two other people be escorted to a cell by the city guards, after one tried to bash in the other one's head in and then had a go at my person. Too bad for him that I am not such a pushover as his buddy. So... I'd certainly say it was eventful." he grins mischievously. "Busy, not so much."

His brow wrinkles up slightly with concern at the sight of Alice leaving and also the sigh Malis breathed hasn't escaped his attention. "And what was all this about? Was Alice unhappy about the condition I brought Mac back in or something?"

Olly, Korga, Julius
Olly takes time to inspect the space, but it seems to be perfectly smooth cut. Getting bored, he decides to climb back down from the uneventful little space.

Loki
Malis raises an eyebrow with a smirk, "Eventful indeed."

A slight shake of the head is followed by a frown, "Tor asked me to try convincing her to be an Instructor. She's not interested in anything if it means she can't fight beside Mac, but when an Instructor fights it's always a spectacle to fit their talents, somewhere Mac wouldn't belong. He's capable enough, but an Instructor has to excel in at least one area. Honestly, we should just let her be, but Tor's reluctant to let a talented individual slip by."

"I'm not sure I understand. Why does a fight of an instructor have to be a spectacle to their special talent? Why can't Alice just do some teaching - which happens outside of public view and most likely interest, too, anyway - and keep on fighting whichever way she likes, with whom she like and which fights she wants? It's not like we'd have to announce to the general public who does teaching for our recruits and who doesn't.

Besides, I haven't seen you involved in any fights at all since I joined the arena, except to safeguard the combatants. So, if you aren't doing any spectacular demonstrations for the audience, why would Alice have to?" Loki
tries not to sound too accusing, but more laying down his reasoning in a diplomatic way, but he isn't too sure he succeeded.

"But on a completely different matter: Would you happen to be interested in finding out what that quarrel in the tavern was all about, yesterday? The aggressor kept saying that the other guy - the one he attacked - 'ruined everything'. I wasn't able to get anything more sensible out of him last night, but maybe he has sobered up by now and is a bit more coherent." Loki muses out loud. "We could go to the guard station together and try to unveil the mystery!"

((Is there anything else of interest in this room that we haven't found yet? Olly isn't feeling great about stealing from whoever owns this workshop... Anyone who knows their way around monsters well enough to carve the menagerie outside is probably a highly capable individual and not one to irritate))
