Contest, We have a WINNER!!!

Post by LAYF » Wed Nov 05, 2014 9:09 am

So, to cellerbrate that in less than 30hours my game
red Wolf/ Yellow Snake goes live in an online store...

I'm going to make a contest!

No entry fees or anything and you can win a copy of my game!
There will be a first and second place price!
Both will win a copy of my game, first place will win an extra they may give to a friend or use as a cup holder or what ever.

To participate you must simply write a story, (no length requirements) about the game, the animals in it more precise, or just one...
Another acceptable contribution would be an art piece reflecting the games them/mechanics somehow.
Maybe you want to use the rules as inspiration, that's up to you, but the more you incorporate the "idea of the animals, theire colors and Triumphs" the better.

The rules are HERE

And Some images:

(More in the spoiler:

► Show Spoiler
The winning story and/or the second place story will be part of the main site for the game. And Ofcourse credit will be given to the author(s)/artist(s) if/as they wish.

You must Pm me the submission before 16th November 2014.

A public vote will be held, each voter having a voting power of three, I'll hold a voting power of one per voter.

Any questions, feel free to ask them here.

I can't even begin to think about how a story like this would happen, but good luck to those who will be participating.

Well, there are many options, but something about one animal overcoming challenge by defeating another stronger one.. IDK, it's all up-to-the-minute contestants...

Minor proofread comment (just because I saw it):
Page 2, paragraph Triumph Cards: last sentence: closing bracket is missing...

"End of Game" (when) is least clear, but that can easily be solved among the players.

Also: the game mechanics are easy, although I would leave out the Triumph cards for kids of the age of mine....
And I know mine would fight regarding the winning rules. You need luck to get the same cards in your winnings pile. My kids would prefer "the one with most cards wins". Try explaining them why 2/3rd of their cards do not count, because I have the other one of the set....

With the above mentioned adaptations 6yo could play it.
Personal opinion? 16yo might play it a few times, then get bored. Even with your rules with Triumph Cards and only counting pairs. I would advertise from age of 6, with simplified rules, and from 8 with full rules....

Next batch then, although you can change the rules you provide online.

Okay, images added...

Ask!, I'll will answer all that when I'm on a pc.

Krulle thanks, I missed that one. I'll fix it, also in the printed version. About "easy mode" Yea, I was considering both a hard and easy mode, but adding another two pages would add to the game cost. But maybe in a downloadable version... Hmm...
Also, for some reason the printer only allowed for 12+ or 18+ as age limit.

Burns; feel free to art it :) if you need pics of specific cards just say so :)

Nerre, saw it, answered :)

Okay.

So we have 3 entries.

Since it is so few, please add only one vote.
I'll myself add one vote for each 3 you guys make.

Entry 1:
Nature always have to keep a balance to keep life going on. For each death, new life can grow. A growing poluation of one kind of animal also leads to more preador and less prey animals of that race. With each strength, their also comes a weakness, one just has to find it. And with the multitude of nature, there always will be somebody who finds it. The circle and balance of life is represented in this game by a circle of totem animals, each having unique strength and weaknesses. Each can beat another one with ease, while it does not stand much chance against some others.

The hawk, master of the sky, can spot it's prey from above. With its quick and surprising attack, he can beat many smaller animals before they even understand what come over them.

The snake, unnoticable, with not much strength or speed, can overcome even the largest foes with its strong poison, if the underestimate it or do not notice it in time.

The lion, king of the animals, can beat most animals in an open fight with his superior strength.

The boar often seems like prey to medium predators until the meet its powerful charge and tusks.

The wolfs, while not one of the most powerful predators, make up for the lack of strength by their intelligent tactics and teamwork. If you see one, the rest of the pack often is not far away.
Entry 2

Arya the red wolf pup was in trouble. She ran as fast as she could, but behind her, her pursuer came crushing through the underbrush, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. She never should have tried to sneak up on that lion cub all on her own. But she had been so curious. And then that blasted twig had snapped. Now it was too late for regrets.
Since she hadn't paid enough attention to where she was running, Arya was suddenly faced with a dead end: towering, steep rock walls at the end of a valley. Running away wasn't an option anymore. Employing her claws for maximum grip, desperately trying to avoid crashing into the boulders she skidded to a halt. Arya turned around, crouching down and baring her teeth, growling. She knew that most likely she wouldn't stand a chance, but at least she would go down fighting.
The noise grew louder and louder, until finally the bushes parted and she saw the lion cub properly for the first time. When laying eyes upon him, Arya's mouth drew into a smirk. The lion's fur was green. :greenie:
Entry 3:
The Competition of The Spectral Keepers

Long ago, in the land now known as The Spectral Forest, a bitter argument raged between six divine beings of color. These were the keepers of the forest, and they possessed untold power. This quarrel erupted among the keepers from the belief that each one was superior to the others. The conflict got out of hand, and nearly resulted in Civil War, but the keepers realized that such a war would destroy the forest. So a contest was created, one that continues to this day.

On that fateful day The Spectral Keepers each unleashed their unique power and to prevent widespread destruction, spread it throughout the disciples of the forest. They would return exactly one decade later having constructed their strongest armies, made up from the disciples, and these armies shall do battle for them. Each keeper would lead their army, and whoeverÔÇÖs army wins would be crowned The Forest King. Each army contained power from all the keepers, so the victor went not to he who had the most raw strength, but to he who had the greatest mind. It is not known for sure who won the battle, but legend says that a wolf from the Red KeeperÔÇÖs army and a snake from the YellowÔÇÖs continued to do battle for months after the other Keepers fell.

Though this battle was initially created to determine who was the superior being, The Spectral Keepers enjoyed their battle so much that after The Forest King was crowned it was decided that they would repeat this battle, once every ten years, constructing new armies every time. And thus was born The Competition of The Spectral Keepers.

The next Competition is nearly upon us. Who shall win? Only time will tell
You'll have till Sunday to vote.

There's pointing out someone else's mistake, and then there's just being plain rude. Learn the difference.
