Haley looks to Alex and nods. "Don't forget the shield." Haley flips off the camera before she starts playing with the robot's wires to attempt to overdrive it's system to paralyze it with many options.
Expert tech edu: When dealing with a robotic enemy, the user can, while in melee range, make a tech EDU check with DC 14. If successful, they can apply one of the following status conditions, even if the robotic enemy is usually immune: asleep, paralyzed or confused.

She then tries to mess with it's wires and to disconnect it from Pearl, even if she has to damage the robot to do so. tech plus glitch plus text book for dummies (disconnect from server): 6D6+5 = [5, 1, 4, 5, 5, 4]+5 = 29

With view of the charging aura, Alex wastes no time in putting himself into the line of fire, raising his shield as he gathers his own aura to combat the attack to come (Detect). "Let's see whether you prepared to break the most stubborn soul there is."

Despite the surge of chemically-enhanced excitement at overcoming the fire-breathing super soldier, it was now time to separate from Kinhe. As good as it was making both him and Kinhe feel, logically he knew it had to be done. So the big crystal jellyfish schlorps off of her trainer, leaving him feeling noticeably drained and panting slightly as the fatigue starts to take hold.

While catching his breath, Koa sheepishly walks over to pick up his ill-fated, but thankfully unbroken pokeball. Funny how the balls recognized the strange, transformed people from other dimensions as pokemon, but not this lady. He supposed that meant that she was still mostly human, right?

He then notices the dilemma at hand, Grimm wanting to eliminate the mech-dragon-lady as a future threat and Luna wanting him not to do that. So Koa opts for possibly the best of both options, if the most difficult.

"Well, let's just bring her with us," Koa suggests, releasing Rawku the Rhydon to do the literal heavy-lifting. "She's gotta know something worthwhile, yeah? And I wanna know what she meant, about trying to be a hero, or whatever. Is that just brainwashing, or is there more to it than that?"

Choice -> Capture Ruby

Koa will heft the Fairy box himself as they leave. He idly wonders what, if anything, would happen if he touched either Regifae's core or the Crystal Resolution to it? Probably not the best idea to test it out now, in any case....

Reunion?

As the robot is about to fire what may be its final shot, what with Roy still ready to deliver another fist of fury, whatever it was going to be would prove itself to be nasty. Were it not for Alex heroically jumping in the way, bracing his own aura to face against whatever this device was.

Though even his stuborness would be surprised as it struck, and even the others could now see the sparks start flying.

This thing did not stop at impacting on his shield.

It was fighting through.

"You absolute fool. This weapon was designed to bring the gods dow low. Do YOU think you could stop it with such a simple trick?"

There was likely some kind of quip to be made about how Alex was too stubborn to die, or whatever would happen if this thing were to hit him. But it was rapidly becoming evident, he was only stubborn enough to not be instantly defeated.

Though perhaps that was all that was required for a bit of divine intervention, even if his benefactor almost appeared like he tried to be suble about it. The "suit" he was wearing from Spark's spell, did suddenly, well, spark. A bolt of blinding aura, colliding against this darkness, as with a final crash it was destroyed. Something green is seen falling somewhere in the room in the aftermath, and Roy, Atom and Max work together to dispatch the big robot that had been the source. Haley especially adds a lot of fuel to the fire that seemed to be the mental breakdown of the woman that was antagonizing them, judging by her screaming; not only managing to get it "docile", but completely disconnected from the scientist' grasp. Loads of insults and threats being thrown, as things return to a momentary calm.

"Okay, the others are out! Do- Do we run, or do we still want to try to download what we can?!"

(Suggestions:
>Head for the exit
>Begin stealing data)
► Show Spoiler
At the artifact room meanwhile, Koa decides to take on the burden of carrying the artifact, while resolving the situation by taking the middle ground. They would capture her. Luna seeming happy enough with that, though Grimm grumbles something about how there are many dangers with that, too. But ultimately, does not protest, and Rawku seems able to carry the girl still, even with apparently 50% of her body being heavy metal. But then the question came; what now?

(Suggestions:
>Head for the exit
>Head toward the control room)

(I should have specified, that was meant for the thing attacking us but robo buddy works.)

"Download as much as you can. I am going to take some of this tech with me...."

Haley starts dismantling the thing that shot at Alex, removing the core/whatever shot at Alex to take with her along with her new robo buddy. She starts disconnecting the weapon that hit Alex from the machine itself, carefully undoing the wires. She hopes that will prevent it from doing that type of shot ever again.

(If it was the green thing then Haley will grab the green thing I guess. Or is the mega mech robot that shot Haley now a robo buddy?)

Well, since the defenses in the artifact room never activated, that must mean that things are going well over in the control room. So, Koa decides to make his way towards the group's planned rendezvous point - the base's exit into the volcano.

Choice -> Secure the Volcano exit

There was also some talk about using and/or sabotaging some kind-of Godslayer boat they were planning to use to get to the Fire temple, so maybe Koa could take a look at what that was about at the same time?

Optional -> Scout the Volcano boat

Download

In relative safety, the group decides to not quite yet make their escape, but focus on stealing the data they intended to from the very start. Jeremy gives an affirmative and dilligently starts his own work, beginning to pull any and all data he can get his hands on, to sift through at a later time. Isabella returning to guard duty, while both Haley and Alex have slightly different things to do. For Haley, she moves to the big mech, pulling out the "gun" that shot at Alex. Though she'd have to admit having no idea how it could ever even function as a gun, seeming to be naught but a glass orb and some wires attached. In each case, she pulls it out, and stows it away after some work, removing the opportunity for it to be used again in any such capacity.

While Alex looks for the "green" he had spotted, briefly. It takes some searching, as the object had somehow gotten under some pieces of debris, but it's the only green thing around. Even if it's... Far from what he was likely expecting.

Was it... A worm? That is what it looked like, at least, some kind of weird flatworm, even with closed, different shaped eyes, though it was not moving. And touching it, it's texture seemed to be more akin to rock, like a kind of glass. Presumably however, he takes it, despite how weird it looks.

Not long are they done, or Isabella warns that they should best get ready. It seemed the mayhem in the base was starting to cool down, and the many inhabitants were beginning to get organized again. She can already see that an officer of some kind is getting the clones help to form an offensive, and it would likely not be long before it turns against them!

(Suggestions:
>Prepare a defense while downloading all data you can. (Will increase danger.)
>Take what you have and move to the exit. (20% chance something bad will happen) )
► Show Spoiler
Exit

Koa and his own entourage meanwhile, are headed out toward the back exit, hoping to go through the tunnel there in order to teleport out away from any prying cameras. On the way, some scraps block the way, though nothing the trio could not handle. Even still, it's obvious that Grimm's distraction is rapidly beginning to lose it's efficacy, and the forces inside are beginning to regroup. In addition to the fact that even a couple researchers seem to notice Ruby's predicament, prompting them to throw their own mettle against them rather than run. But, again, nothing they can't handle. For now.

Arriving at the massive blast doors that seem to be the back exit, they luckily discover that for once no complicated tricks are required, only a simple lever to slowly have the doors grind open. Although looking at what laid beyond may complicate things just ever so slightly. It was not like the boat he was looking for laid right beyond, after all. In fact, the long, dimly lit tunnel went on for long enough he couldn't quite see the end of it, only barely make out the wafting, HOT air. If they were already rushing through, it would mean not waiting on the others.

(Suggestions:
>Defend the tunnel
>Head to the "docks" through the tunnel )

Koa looks down the long hallway hesitantly, and eyes the retracted blast doors. It would be pretty bad if he went on ahead only to get locked behind those doors with no way to help the Control Room group if they needed it. So instead, Koa will defend the exit, waiting for the other group to show. Surely they can't be far behind, right?

Choice -> Defend the tunnel

While holding this position, Koa wonders if the other group happened to run into that Thirteen guy. Koa isn't the most persuasive sort, so if either group was gonna do any convincing, Koa hoped it would be them.

He also gives Ruby a look-over, tapping on his helmet. "I wonder if this lady has any trackers on her?" He asks into the air, talking to but not mentioning the Spark specifically. Given all the mechanical mess, he wouldn't be surprised if there were.

The retreat

Seeing the enemy beginning to regroup, and no doubt being aware of their presence there, the group decides to call it quits while they're still ahead. Grabbing all they do have, and beginning their escape. Though perhaps having allowed the enemy to begin grouping up in the first place had been too much, as it became evident they wouldn't reach the rallying point without a fight. And as several Godslayer pokemon took the front, and grunts and soldier behind it stood at the ready, the trainers had little choice but to force their way through, or risk yet more reinforcements coming in.

The results meant coming under heavy fire as they fought their way through, even if they knew what to do. Haley and Jeremy's tanky pokemon took the charge and took most of the fire, while Alex and Isabella's destroyers pummeled their way through. A strategy that seemed to work brilliantly.

Right up until reinforcements appeared from behind.

Torn between two fronts, the trainers are forced to try keep pushing ahead, while being pelted from the back, something wearing heavy on all of them. Though it would wear heaviest on Isabella, who tried to block some of the fire, only to give a sickening cry moments after a hefty blast. A blast from behind taking down Isabella, Jeremy crying out with more confidence than any of the trainers had ever heard before that day. And as he works to grab the girl and continue, hopefully with some help, they manage to beat their way through the worst of it.

Isabella has been badly injured

But even as this one big setback happens, the group breaks through the worst of it, even if more are already reassembling, with a seemingly endless amount of manpower.
Holding the gate

This is something Koa too would experience, as smaller groups of grunts occasionally tried to pester them, keep them occupied, though they seemingly realized they'd need a bigger assault force to take them down. One they wouldn't get before the others were finally catching up, though behind them they'd see the worrying sight of researcher, soldiers, and grunt meatshields assembling in the hallway... Being led by no one else but Euler this time around. And while the man himself might not bring too much worries, the overwhelming force he was carrying would, as the group rushes past the door.

"Close it, close it!" Luna calls out, Jeremy already doing just that, doors closing with the first of the assault forces only meters behind them.

"Ok we should run, I can't actually keep them locked out from here, so they'll just-" Jeremy started, though Grimm already had sought his own solutions. Aiming at a couple "important looking" parts of the doors, pistons and gears, and punching it to smithereens with a couple well aimed strikes.

"That should do it. Now, time for our retreat," Grimm notes. Ahead of them, the tunnel stretched forth. Behind them, started the beating of their enemy trying to break through. It was a sturdy door, though, it'd take them at least a bit...

And Koa did have one good insight he wanted to check as well, wondering if there'd be anything they could use to track them on Ruby; a robotic voice seeming to give them an answer.

"A very good question! It seems there are a couple of components that could potentially be used to track her down... But, they won't be working if you teleport to you know where."

"I would still recommend you scan her with the pokedex once, so I may analyze the data to verify with certainty."

(Suggestions:
>Head to the lava sub dock
>Head deep enough in the tunnels to safely teleport out )

Koa double checks to see that there's no surveillance in this tunnel before scanning Ruby as requested, half-expecting to register a pokedex entry from the weird hybrid lady.

Aside from that, Koa beats feet towards the lava dock. If it's too unbearable, the group can always port out early.

The boat

There seems to be some minor debate about where to go, Jeremy at least wanting to leave for Isabella's sake, while Grimm simply states he thinks it's more prudent that they make a safe exit. If the enemy catches up to them, it's impossible to cast the teleport spell without them figuring out exactly where they are going, after all.

But overall, the trainer's inclination seems to be that if they can do something about this boat, they should, Luna agreeing that protecting another temple was important as well. And with that, they set out further.

The temperature deeper in the tunnel was getting unbearably hot, were it not for some AC units spreading cool air at points during the descent. It would do little to protect them still from the heat that came with the "docks", of course, the air dry but scorching. As would only be natural, looking upon the glowing, softly bubbling underground pool of lava. At its edge, over a slight cliff, were the "docks", hewn mostly out of stone, besides the machinery that was made out of some strange metal that seemingly resists the heat. Such was made the "boat", though perhaps the trainers had slightly underestimated what they would be dealing with.

The vessel itself was made from the same kind of metal, looking extremely tough, and in the shape as one would expect from a submarine, with some additions. For one, it seemed that part of the methods it could "thrust" was outright with a rocket engine of some sorts, while on the underside a metallic tread ran to allow it to "drive". In fact, right now it was positioned in the front of a slope, leading down to the lava lake. Up front seemed to be a drill, as well as some other kind of armature...

It was also the size of a small building. Though the inside was not nearly as luxuriously big, though enough it could man a decent crew. It seemed the hull was exceptionally thick, and the door had some kind of special triple-sealed bulkhead. Which made sense, considering what it could, supposedly, do.

"And here we are. Now what are we going to do with this thing to mess up their machine..?"

Man, even Koa was starting to sweat immediately upon entering the volcano. His pokemon were fine, but all the humans weren't going to last long in this heat. Hopefully the group wouldn't have to spend too long in here.

Koa glances about the submarine interior, mind racing to find ways to sabotage this thing before the Godslayers kick the door in. Thankfully, inside the sub, they wouldn't be able to see the group teleport out once they were done.

"Right, so, I got two ideas."

"One - we set the engine to blow. I dunno if that'll blow the whole sub, this thing looks pretty tough, but at worst it'll slow 'em down for a while."

"Second idea, and uh, this is a bit riskier - we drive down into the lake and leave the doors open. As soon as we hit the lava, we 'port outta here, let the sub fill up, and burn out this whole interior. It'll just be a big hunk of scrap metal at that point, even if they do somehow salvage it!"

Koa nervously glances out the door to see if the Godslayers are coming. "I vote second. It gets us outta here the quickest, yeah?"

Plan -> Leave the doors open, sink the sub, teleport out

The great escape

The sheer bulk of the ship seemed rather intimidating, and smashing its guts but barely accomplishing anything in the grand scope, it seemed that there were little actual ideas forming. At least not until Koa proposed that they could simply drive the entire damn thing into the lava, then teleport as soon as it was in. The innate risks seemed to have some doubt, but it was clear no other ideas were forthcoming, and soon they were all aboard the sub to begin the work.

Though it would not turn out to be this easy, of course. As Jeremy and Haley who are put into charge of getting the vessel to cooperate soon find out, even if activating the vessel itself was relatively trivial, getting it to move even an inch with the doors opened proved to be far, far more difficult. For what were likely obvious reasons once again, considering normal operation would never, ever want those doors to be open when moving.

Which meant most of the trainers just had to anxiously wait as the duo did their best to override these protections.

Even as the sound of explosions from the long entry hallway became self-evident, and the clattering of footsteps was rushing toward them.

"...Got it!"

With that final exclamation, the vehicle began its slow movement toward its final destination. Jeremy finishing off the plan with the help of an engineer's best tool, a tiny piece of duct tape: sticking down the controls to move the vessel forward, as they soon hit the lava together with some distant shouts calling for them to be stopped... And the spell is cast.
► Show Spoiler
With a flash, the trainers disappeared, to reappear once again in the fairy temple. There was a brief moment of rejoice, in that they all got out... Though Jeremy was all too glad to be scurrying off with Isabella to give her proper care. And the temple would not allow them too much time to celebrate, as it addressed them in their monotone voice.

"You have recovered the artifact."

"Please return it into my safekeeping."

(Suggestions:
>Give artifact to temple
>Keep the artifact)

The little interruption gave the group some pause, however, eventually Grimm the one to break the silence.

"I suppose all of us should rest after that encounter. After securing our prisoner, of course," Grimm notes, to which the temple makes another remark: "Any prisoners could be held in the holding cells on the lower level."

There is a nod to that... Though the ghost continues.

"But even then, I am afraid that so far our plan to get future leads is yet to bear fruit. Though we have two potential avenues to explore. First whatever data your friends stole, which... Well, I'll leave that to them. Secondly, our prisoner, if we can get her to cooperate."

Well. That all worked out better than expected! If the Godslayers needed such a big contraption to try and delve down towards the Fire temple in the first place, it would take a significant amount of effort to fish it out of the lava. They might not even try to recover the submarine at all and start over! Hopefully this whole Godslayer thing can be sorted out before then.

Then the temple interrupted Koa's musings, asking about the artifact.

"Is that okay? I mean, you're already tuned to the Bug one, yeah? It's not gonna, like, overload you or something?"

That said, the Temple probably knows best, so Koa doesn't really have any objections. And it's not like the trainers will lose access to the cube if they need it for something later.

Choice -> Give artifact to temple

With that done, Koa will tend to the prisoner, for whom there are several things to take care of. Koa will:
- Take her down to her cell, of course, and make sure it's at least somewhat comfortable.
- Check his pokedex to see what the Spark has to say about her and what trackable components might be on her.
- Procure Jeremy and/or Haley's help in temporarily removing her cybernetic limbs, at least until any implanted armaments in them can be removed or disabled. Once they've been rendered safe, they can be reinstalled in a limited capacity.
- Prepare an Origin Fruit parfait for when Ruby wakes up. If the trainers are going to be keeping a prisoner, she won't want for food in any capacity, while Koa is there.

Though Koa isn't that great at the whole talking thing, he'll want to be present during the prisoner interview. He technically knows her better than anyone else present, and he can at least read peoples' intentions pretty well. Besides, Koa's curious as to what's going on with this hero complex thing that she seems to have.

Also he might need to help keep her in check, considering the fire breath.

Koa will -> Interview Ruby

The temple

Before the trainers split up to attend to their individual tasks, came the question of the temple itself. And of course, thinking naught of it, they seemed more than glad to oblige its request and hand the artifact back over. The one concern, of "overloading" the temple or anything like that from Koa, does it respond plainly to that there are no such worries.

And as the artifact is handed over, the Unown take care of the rest. Guided by their touch, the artifact begins to float, slowly lifting up, over toward the fountain that stood in the middle of the main hall. As stonework itself shifted, said ornamental thing opening up- And the artifact sliding inside the fountains central column, before closing up again.

"The artifact is returned to its rightful place."

"Thank you."

"We are hereby saddened to inform you that we will be removing the temple teleport spell."

Naturally, such a response earned a moment of sheer confusion, before the exclamations came out, and demands as to a reason. Something the temple was glad to provide.

"To reiterate our currently programmed objectives," it spoke, monotone voice ringing out.

"Our primary objective is the protection of the artifact."

"Our secondary objective is the safeguarding of the temple."

"We have come to the conclusion that the usage of the teleport spell is too much of a risk to the safety of both these objectives."

Hearing that, Luna let out a little tsk, shaking her head, and for a brief moment seemed confident she would fix this with but a simple gesture. "Temple, as the head priestess, I am instituting a new order. You will make an exception to these rules for me and my friends," she spoke, a smug little grin on her lips. That was quickly wiped off with shock.

"Denied."

"These commandments were placed by the Great Architect himself."

"Only the Great Architect, the Lifebringer, the Caretaker, or members of the highest pantheon hold the authority to alter these commandments."

There was an annoyed grunt from Grimm, shaking his head as if part of him thought too late of it. "Typical. There's no arguing with constructs like this. Equivalent to smashing your head into a brick wall... If anything, I dare bet it's leaving you with spells at all is because it knows we'd start smashing stuff if it did."

"...Or why it's not trying to kill us in the first place to guarantee maximum security."

"Correct," the temple responds, seeming to hold absolutely no issue with outright confirming the dark suspicion. "To try and force entry into the artifact chamber would mean to destroy part of the mechanism that allows us to grant our power in the first place. Logically, you would gain nothing from doing so."

”I call tarous crap. We brought it to you. We put our lives in danger for it. We brought reinforcements to your temple. Without the teleport spell we will not be able to protect you when- not if but when the godslayers decide to come back for it. Because where would the first logical choice to find it at than where you got it from? That’s not to say they may have already know where we put it at.

And there is no logical reason to bar us from the spell. Besides if your ultimate goal is to protect the artifacts then I guess we won’t put any more in the other temples if this is what our help gets us.”

"Even I can see where this is going. The teleport spell gets banned because it's "too dangerous," then something goes down while we're not here, endangering the temple, and we're not able to teleport back to save the day. This temple has already failed to protect itself and its contents. We're the only functional line of security now, the only measure that has actually worked."

"You have done well."

"But your currently gauged strength has been measured to ultimately fail should it come to a full-out defense."

"To add that you possess no means of being alerted should this be necessary."

"Continued obscurity has been deduced to be the best possible course of action."

"We are not instructed with the safekeeping of other artifacts. Do with them as you will."

"We shall gladly replace the spell with one of a different make, and add a new one as well."

The teleport spell gets banned because it's "too dangerous," then something goes down while we're not here, endangering the temple, and we're not able to teleport back to save the day. This temple has already failed to protect itself and its contents. We're the only functional line of security now, the only measure that has actually worked."
"You do not possess means to know when your help would be needed."

"If you seek to help protect the temple, you are welcome to stay and guard it directly."

"You will have no need of the spell then."

"Excuse me? Hello who defeated the godslayers in their own damn base? I dismantled one of their machines so they can't kill gods. We stole the item for you. Why are you being such a butt? If you obstruct us then there is no choice but to remove Rhemlarity, the seed I planted, and other upgrades we have given you to help protect you.

It's really convenient you do this now where we can't even get the Arcitech, lifebringiner or caretaker to tell you otherwise! Luna just said it came from the arciteh! How about this, you let us get the Architech here to talk sense into you."

Code: Select all

Sparky... They are right on one thing, we aren't strong enough. You helped Alex out out there.
So uh....I was thinking about the whole patron thing? If you want?
I'm not sure exactly how this works....

"We anticipated this potential outcome. While the loss of these potential defenses is considered a loss, continued obscurity remains the most probable outcome to guarantee safety."

"The Great Architect or other members with prerequisite rank are welcome at all times. You are free to invite them if they would choose to give new commandments."

After the temple speaking with its continued monotone voice, Haley also contacts the Spark. Who seems to need a couple of seconds to answer.

Helped Alex? I do not know what you are talking about. Must have just been the suit. :)

...I'll think about it.

While I would love to, I... Cannot give something, without taking something in return.

It is against the rules.

Usually, the payment for such a thing would be... Well, I've stopped doing that a long time ago.

So I'd just have to find something you can do for me in return! :)
