Kin never heard of it being cross-species, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. It's rare even within the species. First time for everything. But the comic has made it clear that this is what's happening, and Elli has been clear that they do See each other and it's a relationship that grew naturally between them, starting with Kin's birthday party. Psimax had nothing to do with it. There is, as far as I know, no evidence to support or refute the idea of destiny.
