Well, Minmax sure does. It's not weird, it's a sign of how much he cares about her that he knows her scent instantly, instinctively. It may well also be part of them "seeing" each other.
In that case, I think I would remember the smell of the blazing forest.

Remembering someones scent kinda takes cuddling with them to achieve. I've gotten the impression that Kin and Min ever got that close.

He also noted it falling while in an argument with the goblins. I think we can give that detail a little artistic wiggle room.

Cool. I had forgotten they had a moment standing in a river of healing potion.

The point is, they were "cuddling" to escape the burning forest and close smells can absolutely dominate majority smells. What's more, Minmax entering a primal state of mind was paramount in that effort and the nose's dominion over our memories is very much a primal aspect of our brain's design; so not being distracted by his own (already simple) thoughts may have helped memorize the scent of Kin's hair.

Also, MM sniffing the hair isn't cute, it is super creepy. Especially when you consider they have only been separated for a few hours, max, in his timeline.
Oh please, there is nothing creepy at all about it. If he were sniffing random strangers' hair, sure. But someone he was romantically interested in and who at least held some affection for him in return? Not in the slightest.

The scent of a loved one is a comforting thing to most people, whether they consciously realize it or not. Part of whether or not you "like" someone is how they smell, and whether you can tolerate it.

When stressed by something, like hiding the truth, their scent changes ever so slightly. It's why dogs have been said to react strongly to "bad" people: They live in a world of scent, so they can pick up on an entirely different level of social cues, while humans completely ignore it. All it takes is a little cologne and a nice smile to cover up a world of ill intent. Bundy, anyone?

You know, I've actually watched someone be metaphorically thrown under the bus when they took a smoke break? By people who pull that fake-cough thing from a half-block upwind, just to harass someone else?

So after the second dozen or so time someone who doesn't know you calls you a disgusting loser, or says they wish you'd die already... a certain "fark off and die" attitude is understandable... for my part, I'm still pretty polite about it. I smoke well away from other people... except for one time, when a lady was following me around an entire parking lot, lecturing me. But then, that was HER choice. :p

When I was younger, I tried to quit smoking, and was reminded of something: I could (at least in my 20s) track people by scent. Now, this was when I was in the Army. In Korea. We had a group there we jokingly called TKD, or Tappa Kegga Day (Tap a Keg a Day). We also ran with KATUSAs, or Korean Augmentation to United States Army, and Kimchee (a spicy fermented cabbage) is a large part of your average Korean person's diet. Now, imagine running in the middle of a large group of hungover people, mixed in with people sweating spices and fermented cabbage out of their pores. Now imagine having the nose of a bloodhound and doing this. Yeah, I smoke specifically to handicap my nose, because if I didn't, I'd probably murder someone.

OT: Wow. when I read "body integrity identity disorder" in the article about the girl who blinded herself - never having heard of that before - I initially assumed that she somehow had trouble accepting her body/how she looked and that she wanted to be blind so she wouldn't be able to/have to see it herself anymore. Apparently, reading on, I figured that was not it, but I still can't fathom how or why someone would actively and voluntarily damage their own body. Then again, most disorders pertain something that most people can't understand why someone would ever do something.

With how big the ring of holding is it is lucky that there is not much in it yet or the hair would probably become nearly impossible to find.

Minmax is not exactly known for his surplus of forethought on matters like that. He put something he felt was precious into a place he knew it wouldn't get lost.

I did have a thought though, regarding that ring.... Wouldn't that have been nice to have when they encountered the river of healing potion?

It would be a real "hold my beer" moment in light of Biscuit's mouthful gambit.

And sorry for starting that off-topic conversation earlier. Just because there's a Segway doesn't mean it'll take you anywhere worth while.

That would've been a real test for the capacity of the ring of holding.
Then you to seal the ring, turn it upside down, and attach it to a cap, like these beer-holding caps.
Weird fighting style, but the constant, nourishing healing potion should be wort a -2 in agility....

It's done with and Segway's are sometimes hard to control and easy to fall off of. At least the physical ones. I've never gotten the hang of it. Then again, I'm the biggest klutz I know. :D

Gosh dang it, I missed the perfect opportunity to create the thread named "Smells like teen spirit". Whatever. :D

Nice smelling partners are always a bliss! (Then again, probably they smell "nicely" to you for the same reason...) Anyone creeped out by that, I wish you nice smelling partners! (Provided you actually want a partner. If not, ignore the sentence!)

By the way, on the topic of creepy sex-related things. K'seliss, anyone? I don't really remember reading too much fuss about the eating-killing-mating triangle ...

Sorry for being vaguely off-topic. :paranoia:

Also thanks for mentioning that Ring of Holding detail, I totally missed that!

It's not off-topic to compare the negative reaction of hair-sniffing to the non-reaction of food-sex. To be fair though, nobody is going to expect a mini-kaiju to fallow our standards of behavior; but if you think Minmax has been doing that until now, the citizens of Moon K'tolo and Brassmoon City would like to have a word with you. His drunken business with the Elven statue is a good 5 times worse than the personal space invasion that this isn't.

I think in allot of fiction, hair sniffing is generally associated with someone being pervy, so I think that may be why some would see it that way.

If your implication that it's purely the hang-up of fictional people, then everyone treating it like taboo in this thread are being ridiculous jerks for no reason because each story is its own world and expecting cultural norms to carry over from one to another is insane.

It's probably considered creepy in fiction because it's also considered creepy in real-life, and definitely within the realm of "over-reaction" I dare say.

Edit: It's worth noting that the "ridiculous jerks" line was within a hypothetical based on another poster's miswording, and my actual objection to peoples' offense of hair-sniffing is most assuredly more mild. I apologize for the misunderstanding.

I guess the beginning of your second sentence is kinda what I meant. I didn't put that much thought into it, and neither do I explain myself well. Never been real great at talking.

I'm not much better myself.

Although they both have feelings, it is worth noting that Minmax is just now learning that there's still hope and he shouldn't be so presumptuous that they'll be back to square...uh, 7...right away. I previously suggested that Kin will test him, and he'll probably pass if my "door remains shut; mouth opens" theory is bunk.

If we go creepy sexeeh in this comic I would go for the Saves-A-Fox boobs-autopsy we got. Or the sexy flesh-tail of Kin that thankfully got scrapped. Those are creepy because they somewhat goes across the 4th wall.

In universe I would say the Goblin slayer somewhat takes the creepy creepy cake. Kins self-homicide... Suicid... Autoci... When Kin crushed herself with cuddly tail cuddling was pretty creepy as well. Damn, Kin seems to be involved in a lot of the creepyness, does she not?

I don't think he's running with the assumption that the'll be a couple now and everything is forgiven. That would make it seem like he's learned nothing from his utterly massive ***k-up. (Can't remember what swear words are allowed in the forum, but that one seems aproppriate.)

That said, I really hope they don't end up in a "he always screwes up everything, but she's perfect and can do no wrong" kind of dynamic.

I think she's here to take things slow, and let him earn the trust back. They're not gonna jump into each other's arms and start making out or anything.

Which is exactly why, if Minmax starts by letting Kin set the boundary rules like before, he's off to a good start. What I'm really anticipating is everyone explaining to each other all the misconceptions Minmax had about the goblins. In fact, I wonder why he hasn't mistaken this business with the axe as that "White Terror" prophesy that set him on this hunt. It's exactly the kind of misunderstanding that he's prone to and usually leaps at the chance to act on them. But then, it would also be in-character that he simply forgot.
