Work in Progress - New Icons/Imageset

Hey guys, I'm looking for help making new icons, buttons and other images for the forum. So far most of those items are off the shelf and only slightly modified, but I want to customize further and make the forum more Goblins-ified.

What does that mean and why am I telling you? Well, I'm decent with GIMP and can probably throw some stuff together... but I have less time to work with than I'd like and I know there are far more talented members of this community that might be able to help. I would like to do the following:

• Replace the helmet button by the board index button with Chief's Crown.
• Replace the Spiky mace ball by FAQ with something like the talking wall face from the 7th panel here
• Replace the other spiky mace balls with something else, anything else.
• Replace the topic icons (the shield things) with similar icons styled after the shield of wonder.
• Incorporate other elements of the goblins universe like Lord's helmet, Oblivious, Chief's Spear, the Axe of Prissan, etc... wherever it would be appropriate and make sense.
• Replace all of the buttons if we can think of anything that fits better (maybe use the axe of Prissan as a backdrop for one).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's awesome! Is there any way we could get the rest of the crown in there? The little blue dot things?

(I made this one but then realized I had misread moose's post AND there is already a curly parchment icon.)

Should I go for more the shaded "realistic" look of the current icons, or go for more simple clean pixel look of the smilies, or continue along with the style of these?

Hmm, since the images are in .gif format, I'm now considering animated icons... might be too gaudy though.

I saved the emoticons someone published in the destructed forum into my photo-shop account. I dunno who made them (NOT me, I don't want to steal credit!), but I think they said we could use them freely (in the destructed forum).

You need to fix something important -- the "logged out" page looks just like the temporary site.

I came here yesterday, having been offline all weekend, and was getting mad that I couldn't remember my password. It wasn't until I tried to get it to reset my password that I realized I was in a different place (because it didn't have my account/email at all).

If the logged out screens had shown the new Goblins look, I'd have immediately recognized we had changed locations (again) and I wouldn't have become so frustrated.

There are 62 regular images plus another 14 which include text (like the Reply axe). There seem to be about 40 variations of the shield (although many are similar, if not identical) covering every conceivable contingency - read, unread, hot topic, announcement, subforum, locked, posted in thread, not posted in thread... and pretty much every possible combination of those things. (Locked announcement thread with unread posts in which you have previously posted has its own special image.)

There's also this style demo which shows and labels some of the major variants.

Any ideas on how to cover all that with the Shield of Wonder? What can we put on the shield to signify a locked thread, an announcement thread, a hot topic, one in which you've posted, etc.?
