Do we know why she posted it in black and white?

I think to show she's updating more often now (or at least plans to).
She vented on Twitter about her fear for the future, as she will need to move (due to the split from Danielle), and to finance that, she will need a drastically better output (which should lead to more visitors and thus increase the ad income).

I cannot watch nor listen to the drawing streams, so I don't know if she said more there than on twitter.

BTW: on twitter, the new page has not been *booped on the nose* yet.
On 30 May she posted a first drawing of a panel, with the challenge to herself to get the page done by the end of the month. Likely this was as close as she could get.

Hmm, full colour is still not online?

Anyway: a sequence of the last panel, as published on twitter, from sketch to fully shaded:
► Show Spoiler
(spoilered for size)

[edit to add - 13 June]
Panel 1 is done as well:

Is it the same kind of monster, just with an art upgrade, then? Or is it just similar?

I think just similar. The original did not have teeth on its tentacles, and the current one doesn't have claws and the end of the tentacles.

But I think the post has more to do with similar situation: someone's in the mud/water, and a tentacled monster appears behind him.
And uses the same wording...

But why would a water monster reach out of the water first, when it would be much more effective to just grab below the water line?
