I think the painting looks really nice. The halo really makes for a religious outlook, not sure if that was the intention, but hey, it looks good!

Ahh, I love that simple black and white.

I recently played Warcraft 3 and I was reminded why I love the Warcraft universe so much.
The characters are awesome, even if they lean on a lot of stereotypical characterization.
Also the Warcraft universe has the best goblins in the entire world. (Sorry THunt)

The Grim Reaper is fantastic, and I love the third watercolour. Feels so relaxing

Oooo! Watercolors! Actually, I'm currently taking a watercolor class and I think I'm falling in love with the medium myself, but, that aside, I've noticed that watercolor in general has some really beautiful brush strokes and it appears you, of course, are no exception. The second one in particular I get the impression that every stroke is intentional, especially since it's a simpler piece and there really isn't a lot of detail to distract from the shapes you're using to evoke 'tree'.

Also, seconding Mr. Creepy-Reaper up there, that one looks like it was really fun to paint.

And on another note, here's a somewhat tangential question: I've noticed you're always putting up really nice pictures of your works, are you doing something with lighting or something? Perhaps you have some secret trick for not having to Photoshop the hell out of them in order to get the images to be presentable?

The tree paintings were actually practice pieces from my painting class from exactly a year ago. They were kind of a reflection of the croquis drawings we always did before we began our actual painting.
We were outside that day and our teacher asked us to paint trees as quickly as possible, keeping it simple yet trying to keep the feeling of a tree in the paintings. It was fun as hell.

As for the lighting, I don't really conciously do anything to improve the lighting afterwards. If the piece I'm working on is digital, I might tweek the contrast or color balance a bit if needed.
Maybe a little gradient here and there to emphasize the light sources.
I've only recently started paying attention to proper lighting in my artwork and I keep doing these very heavily contrasted pictures with delicously thick shadows.
Playing with shadows is especially fun when you're working with watercolors, though if you're sloppy like me the shadows may get out of control.
I unfortunately do tend to get the shakes when I'm painting so they sometimes get out of control.

If you meant these watercolor pieces, I have no clue. It might just be my scanner doing something to the contrast and color balance. (My scanner is pretty old at this point. 2004 I think)
I'll have to get a new one at some point, but it's still serving it's purpose.

Incidentally, I did a small watercolor piece over the last two days after putting the previous ones up.

Here's a good example of how my scanner changes things. The actualy painting is much more muted on the colors.
The scanner made things brighter and I actually like it. The only thing I'll have to keep in mind in the future is that I shouldn't do the black outlines first.
They get smudged by the water and the other colors, making things look a bit dirty in places. I might do more watercolor stuff since I've already got the tools out.

Yeah, the arrows are pretty masive. I'm awful at drawing arrows. Or at least keeping them a manageable size.

If I may ask, what tools and software do you use? I am just getting back into sketching but I only use ye olde pencil and paper. Considering a Wacom Bamboo.

I use a Wacom tablet for drawing, model PTK 440. My ideal goal is getting one of those fancy drawing monitors, but those things are expesive as all hell.
For software I use Photoshop CC and Manga studio. Photoshop is a very basic choice, but I know "Manga studio" sounds like an odd choice. The reason is that I recently noticed that Photoshop has TERRIBLE drawing tablet support.
I looked around for a program that had better support and pressure sensitivity and eventually I settled on Manga studio because it provides you with wonderful tablet support and many other handy features.
It just feels better than Photoshop at this point. I still use Photoshop for coloring and adjustments, but Manga studio is the superior program for the actual drawing part of the artwork.

I feel like I need to put something up here again. School work has been keeping me quite busy lately, but I thought it would be funny to show you people some of my older work.

I remember I was just reading Goblins for the first time around this time.
I had just gotten to the chapter with the yellow musk creeper zombies and thought it was very cool to have a fight scene in waist high water.

Thank you very much for sharing your progression! I actually don't mind some of your earlier work, I love the remakes of your zombie invasion.

I really appreciate this because my ability is at the moment at the same level of your earliest hand-drawn stuff. I keep thinking I'm never going to get anywhere and I'm shit, but look at how much better your current work is in comparison! There may be hope for me yet!

That's the best way to keep yourself motivated. No matter how crappy you feel about your work, you can always look backwards and laugh at yourself.
I have even earlier work that I did back in junior high, instead of studying. That post is going to be a bunch of laughs.

Nice one. My old pictures look similar, but my current ones don't. Make me feel like I suck since my drawing ability did not improve since 2000. Some years back I just had less and less time to continue drawing. And I did not get into computer drawing until I got a Wacom lately. Most of my pictures are still only on paper, did not scan in many yet. First time I felt like the computers advanced far enought to allow drawing like I want it to.
