Sound like the fear is people who host might get two much if we do an average and they play other games, so how about a giving the hosts a special ability. Usable once per hosting instead of XP. Something like this...

I don't like the idea of them having a special ability. I like that they get xp. The problem I see that some people are going to host frequently, and others not at all. I'm considering hosting but I'm not that great with the graphics so that would be pain for me. So the issue comes when someone hosts several games and others like me host none. if they hosted 5 games at 5xp per, that's 25 xp they're ahead of everyone else. That's easily puts them 2 or 3 levels ahead. I'm fine with a 3 xp bonus for hosting so long as there's a larger bonus for hosting while not playing in a game.
also Chuck the way I've got it set up it's pretty easy to make an update, all you have to do is copy from tthe layer for a specific player and paste it in the layer for each turn and you're done. I'll be happy to share you on the resources if you want to try to play with them.

My suggestion for the host xp:
If there is no game the hosts character is in, only his game is running: Give the host the average xp of players in his game, rounded up. Setting it to a fix value per round or game might end up with him earning a lot more or less than the players. I think connecting it to the players gain is best, as it keeps him in their league for further games, neither lacking behind nor jumping ahead.
If he is in another game, he should only get the higher value of both games, for the same reasons as above. maybe with a little bonus of not more than 20% of all xp he has earned so far. If an host already has a level 3 chars, this is close to the suggested 3 xp. But again, a fix value does not make sense, since 3 at the beginning is 60% of a level, while it layer will matter much less. I like proportional growth.
I also would like to sign up for the next game, liked test game 2 a lot after I got the hang of it. Do we deal with the leveling up here or in the game thread?

I could get behind that. Higher of the two values seems fair. It means he will have at least an average gain, if not higher. If his character falls prey to the whims of the dice, he gains at least average. If his character does well he gains above average.Nerre wrote:My suggestion for the host xp:

If you simultaneously host and play 5 times. Lets say the average xp is 10xp across all 10 games. With players in only one game at a time they each would play 5. At 50 xp you would have gained 6 levels meaning level 7 characters with 5/11 to the next level. however if you had 15 extra for hosting 5 games, you would be level 8 with 9/12 to the next level. So instead of being 45.5% of a level ahead after 1 game, you instead end up 129.5% of a level ahead after 5 games.* And that's with only 3 xp. More than that is too much.
Also player xp doesn't have proportional growth, why should host be different.

Last idea bit tired so no maths but just a thought... have it scale depending on the totals of other players.
Example- If the host is the highest xp player they will get less xp for hosting. if they are the lowest they could get more. off top of my head something like
highest player xp /lowest player xp (-/+ some modiefier from the game played) = bonus xp
This encourages the lowest xp players to host and more will try.

@Chuck: I did not expect anybody to host 5 games at the same time, only one at a time.
In normal PvP games the xp for players is linear, that is correct. But if we play against animals, stronger/faster animals could be easily created to provide more xp.
I think the attempt I wrote is not that bad.

I don't think too many games will run at the same time anyway. Most active people in here are either active gms with enough work or in a lot of games already, so not too many of us will have the extra time required for hosting another game. I am glad if I can keep up mine for example.

How about a bonus that scales down over time? 3 xp for any of the first 3 games they host, 2xp for the next 3, and 1 xp thereafter. If they aren't simultaneously in another game they get the average xp of the players in the game they're running, otherwise they get the scaling bonus.

Sounds good. Maybe we could combine it with a cooldown, like "if 4 others have hosted a game, the xp goes up one step".
So if he already hosted one, but waits a long enough while, he would get 3 xp again instead of 2. He would only get 2 if he hosted the 2nd game right after the first.

I think I will aquire those for my 2 level ups:
Teamwork (3 levels). Each level reduces your penalty for being in the same square as a teammate by 5%.
Cheer effectiveness (STG 1, 3 levels). Each level increases the bonus for Cheering by 5%.

I can run the next game if Wears isn't up to it right now thanks to allergies (mine just decided to hit me with a damn sledgehammer too), or if no one else wants to host. I'm thinking we run a 5v5, players who haven't been in any games yet are in automatically if they want to play. Everyone else is first-come, first-served. If we can get enough people we could even run another 3v3 on the side. Sound good? If Wears is hosting I definitely want in though but I'll wait for him to post whether he's hosting or not first.
