Why are X-rated comics being advertised?

Post by Catmandont » Sat Jul 27, 2013 12:22 pm

While I'm not personally offended by the inclusion of ads linking to x-rated comics such as: (dammit, how can I add this thing.... maybe....this?)
► Show Spoiler
I have to ask; Since this is something new for us, is this acceptable to everyone? Or is it just me?

Again, I don't look at it a say "Holy Crap! This offends me and NO ONE SHOULD SEE IT!!" >:( *some sort of guttural scream, followed by fist shaking and me wetting myself* Nope, this isn't my style.

However, I'm not a fan, as I feel it changes the overall tone of THunt's website slightly, and not in a good way.

Hey, don't get me wrong; I like me some titties. I even like my own 'man boobs'... at times... after I wax.... Long story.

Hey! Why are you reading this? It's bad for your eyes, and there's nothing to see here; no words of wit or sage like advice.... Nope, none of that crap... Still here? Well, I guess you can stay for a little while, but no touching. Ok, MAYBE a little bit of touching, but don't expect a kiss... Oh, and don't expect me to cuddle afterwards, either. This is purely physical in nature, and you can't REALLY want something serious after everything we've been through? Fine... 20 seconds of heavy petting, and that's IT! Annnnnnnd done...

I saw that earlier and had the same reaction. I think it's because of the new ad service. I sent THunt an email about it just in case he didn't see it, so it may go away in a few days.

And he replied to my email. He said that the ad had been okayed by him. His words were that he still didn't allow porn/nudity, but it would be hypocritical for him to refuse to promote other comics simply because they show underwear.
Thanks to Arch Lich Burns for the avatar, and Mnementh for the mustache.

I haven't seen anything worse than the panels on this page and the following one, or Tempts Fate surviving in this challenge.

Pffft, that's NOTHING.

I don't use the label "x-rated" lightly, as Phil Foglio's 'Xxxenophile' was one of the comics presented. You're examples are at most PG-13. It also seems as if the link is now missing, whether by chance or willful intent.

If you are brave, and not at work or around the kids, clink on the link (yes I saved it, for..... *ahem*...study) and you'll see what I mean.

To be fair, you are correct; the ad, by itself, was PG-13 and no worse than your examples. However, the fact that it [the ad] linked directly to NSFW content is what gave me pause.

WHY it bothered me is a tad harder to explain. The content itself wouldn't normally offend me, in fact I may have read a couple of them in the past, so that's out. Nor do I feel this is something that needs to be censored, though it's not really for me. Hey, to each their own, right? o:)

Honestly, my reaction came down to this:

I don't want my Goblins [yes, I said MY] to be associated with anything remotely resembling 'adult entertainment'. It's better than that. I want my kids to love it; I want my friends to love it; my Mom.... wouldn't get it, but be very supportive; my Dad would have loved it, I'm sure.

Point is, I just want at least 1 degree of separation (or do I mean 2? MATH!!!!!) x-rated content from anything I love, and I love Goblins.

Sorry if this feels as if I'm rambling, cuz I'm very tired and haven't eaten yet.

Well, he probably investigated the link, because (unless it's an issue on my end) the link is now down.

I agree that underwear and implied nudity is fine (BRING IT ON!!), but this was far more than that. Characters using someones crotch as a flesh canasta is definitely what I would call "porn". Or, what I hoped my weekend would turn into.... >:-P
