Forum Newsletter (We need writers/reporters)

Post by I'mBob » Sun Mar 10, 2013 9:37 am

[mod="SeeAMoose"]I am making this a global announcement and changing the title name because I feel that it is a valuable idea that would be beneficial to the community. The idea is to create a forum newsletter that anyone who is interested can sign up for by joining a newsletter group. Members will receive weekly messages about what is going on in the forum. It appears we already have someone to organize it. Now we just need the following, please post if you are interested.

Jobs:
General forum reporter.
Games forum reporter.
Community forum reporter.
Controversy forum reporter.
Translation forum reporter (if things ever speed up)
Comic reporter.
Someone who writes funny/nonsense things.
small comic strip maker.[/mod]

Okay, this might be a dumb great idea. A horrible fantastic one, too. I'm just suggesting it based on something I saw that was very popular on another forum.

The idea is a forum "newspaper".

The thing is basically a "newspaper" that the forum's community makes for themselves. It contains things from a crew of people
who work and comes out around once a week.

For example, there is a "Games Forum" report about new games that are out, an interview with a well known people from the forum, a nonsense corner. Things like that.

So, do you guys think such a thing can work on this forum?
Would you like to be part of it? As a reader? as a writer? as something else?

Reason: Clarifying the awesomeness of the idea!

Well I guess this is a better word to describe it.

Sorry for my poor word vault. :/

I kinda like this idea... like a weekly re-cap plus some fun stuff

Post by I'mBob » Sat Mar 16, 2013 10:22 am

Okay, I've decided to make this thing and see how it works. I need workers. Writers, reporters. What ever. The following jobs are available, plus you can suggest your own if you want. If you want to apply to a job, please PM with a short description of why you should get it, and an example report will be good. If you want to work at something not mentioned here, PM me with it and with an example report, etc.

Jobs:
General forum reporter.
Games forum reporter.
Community forum reporter.
Controversy forum reporter.
Comic reporter.
Someone who writes funny/nonsense things.

There we go, that should make it a little easier for you to recruit reporters for your newletter. ;)

Oh... by the way, you don't have any problem running the newsletter, do you? >:D No? Okay good, because you're absolutely cool enough to manage it.

Great idea Bob. Applause to you...

Sadly my writing abilities and time schedule dont allow me to commit to such a project but if you need help with layout and conversion to PDF and such, Ill be happy to help... just say the word... (might be happy to make a comic strip or two once in a while... why not make it a collaborative work... people can send comics to you, and then youll have a library of comic strips to take from...?)

I was actually thinking about making it something that would be received by pm or email as a pm/email

oh... I was thinking something in the lines of sending the Newsletter as en email.
Within the email have it in text... but also a link to a pdf Like this for a more print available newsletter... Looks nicer, I can be linked to in the forum and is printer friendly....

Wow, thanks. I honestly didn't thought it will get that far. Hope I wont wake up soon.

I guess I can manage it, but if I find it difficult I might pass it someone else. In the end, I'm "only" the editor, not a writer or something...

Erm, the tabs fall apart if they take up more than one line.

Subscription could be easily managed if it were a new usergroup, the "Goblins Reader's Digest" or "Goblins Times Subscribers" or whatever name you thought for it... At least it would require a simple application for the group, rather than keeping up a mailing list with new/different emails... so yeah, less work. :)

Some topic ideas:
  • Thread of the Week / Month - Mods' choice: Which thread did you find the most interesting this week/month?
  • Thread of the Week / Month - Users' choice: Same as above, but members decide upon it by voting. In both cases, some small review is in order
  • Thunt - Life Through His Eyes: In case he agrees (and it is legal), someone with journalistic veins could make a short interview with him on a regular basis, talking about whatever Thunt/the journalist/the readers want. Could happen in the form of recapping a simple email change, or in ustream chat recording / logging, or in any method convenient...
  • UStream Mainstream: Has there been a funny or very cool picture drawn by Thunt? Or a conversation of epic levels that should be saved for the future? Since the streams are easy to miss, I'm sure more of us wonders what is going on there too. Maybe a small recap, or highlights could be in order, too.
Moose, that logo seems to be a bit high, but I like the title. Maybe arranging it into 1 or 1.5 line, and scaling it down?

Due to the "cough" problem with spelling and grammar, I will volunteer my time as an "Editor" or similar person.

I don't know if this is needed, but I could do a write up on a new webcomic each week to introduce people to ones they haven't heard of before. I would take it upon myself to archive binge and give my impressions and what I think would be appealing about it. I don't know if you would want that since it isn't all about Goblins or these forums but I think it could introduce people to a wide variety of things they may not know they would like.
Thank you anonymous friend from college who made the cute ninja. I insist on using it as my avatar until you join the forums since you love the comic. Take that.

Okay, she joined but I am not taking this down. Come on, look at the cute.

Wait, so someone can have a JOB of writing nonsense? If only in the real world, I'd be rolling around, filthy rich. I can speak it too! Really!

I kind of like the ring of Goblins Reader's Digest. There is already a group thanks to Wolfie, I'm going to rename it though. Also, there is a staff group that we can add people to.

I really like the idea of this. I'm not clear on what you're looking for from contributors. How long of an article? Cartoon panels? Full on fan comics? Might someone want to make a "column" where they copy over Thunt's weekly Tweets for people who don't Twitter?

LAYF, I really like the look of those .pdf backgrounds, especially the brown one. 8)

Maybe a column where people can send in short Goblins-related stories? Or a joke column? :) The person in charge of this would have to keep an open inbox to receive submissions, and then pick the funniest, coolest, or most interesting ones to publish in the newsletter.

An article should be 2-5 paragraphs, not too long so people will read it, but also interesting.
I like the idea of the twitter thing. If anyone want to do it, it will be great.
