Piling!

Also: for how many points are we going?
We're "only" at turn 9, and 15 points has already been reached....
And we're right now in a very interesting tactical situation, to me the fun just started... :)
Edit: Just found it: 21 points, and the ususal by two, and not while the loosing team is carrying a flag.

A shrink ray strikes out of nowhere as everyone rushes to tackle C3.

Image

The epic struggle of a dozen tiny goblins all trying to grab the same flag at once warps time and space, and we end up back at the beginning of turn 10...

Score: 17 to 11

Pats Dragons, Yells At Others, Bomb Diggety, and the striped blue flag all respawn.

The action is all centered around the expected position of the solid blue flag as just about everyone maneuvers for position.

Stands Firm guards.

Boar Slayer escapes, winning 1 XP and a point for the red team. He runs with the flag down to D2.

Score: 17 to 12!

Hides Cloth and Tumbles Down a Hill tackle each other in C3.
► Show Spoiler
Tumbles pins Hides, winning 1 XP and a point for the red team.

Score: 17 to 13!

Stands Firm would tackle C3, but he's recovering from the tussle in the first half of the turn.

Yells At Others once again lives up to his name, yelling "Damn you Neeerreeeee! across the field.

Boar Slayer runs to D3, right into the waiting arms of Righteous Charger.
► Show Spoiler
Righteous Charger knocks out Boar Slayer. He gets 1 XP for winning the tussle, 1 XP for sending Boar Slayer back to his side of the field, and a point for the blue team. Boar Slayer must respawn.

Score: 18 to 13!

Has No Name and Nerre have -1 to tussles next turn for missed tackles.

Edit - also why didn't stands firm tackle after is guard? I happy about it but just asking- he lost but wasn't grounded.

How did righteous move to c3? Last time he was at d3, being on the ground. He had to take the first half of ths turn to stand up. He would not have had time to guard.

The text says he's on D3, but you're right about the standing up bit.

Chuck was on D3. He got knocked down last turn. In the first half of this turn, he stood up, still in D3. In the second half, he guarded. What's the question?

I was confusing him with Stands, of course. Carry on.

Just saw this:
Patdragon wrote:Edit - also why didn't stands firm tackle after is guard? I happy about it but just asking- he lost but wasn't grounded.
Basically, you can only initiate one tussle per turn. Whether you're tackling or guarding, win or lose, taking aggressive action ends your turn. (Though you can still be engaged by opponents tackling you.)
rules wrote:Game terms
- Tussle, pin, dodge
A tussle is a physical battle between two players of opposing teams. The players either aim to pin the opponent, or dodge them. The tussle is resolved by our old friend, the d20. Both players have an equal chance (10 to 10) of coming out the winner, but as many different bonuses are applied, the odds change. Bonuses are addative and can cancel each other out.
Example:
Red Team Attacker Sprints forward on blue team's half, but a Blue Team Defender moves in the way and Guards. Blue Defender tries to pin, while Red Attacker tries to Dodge. Defenders get a 10% bonus to Guard on their own half, but Attackers get a 5% bonus while dodging. However, being caught while sprinting incurs a 10% penalty. Blue's bonus is 10%, while Red's net penalty is 5%. All in all, this means Blue gets a 15% bonus, meaning they win on 13 numbers versus Red's 7.
In practise matches, the winner of a tussle wins 1 point for their team and 1 exp.
If the winner was dodging, the winner may take the rest of their moves that turn. The loser is distracted for this turn, but can move normally again next turn.
If the winner was trying to pin their turn ends, the loser is distracted at the start of next turn, and must use their first move to get up. If a player is pinned on the opponents' half, they must instead use the first move to warp back to a square of their choice in the back row of their own half. (It's magic. Don't ask.)
Boar Slayer dodged, and was thus able to continue his turn, but Stands was "distracted" for the rest of the turn.

I always interpteted it as "successful tackle or stumble thus failong to continue".

Also: I thought we were crowding Nerre?

Score: 18 to 13

Boar Slayer respawns as Pats Dragons and Yells At Others converge. Has No Name crosses the line while Righteous Charger and Bomb Diggety sprint towards red territory. CarvesAPumpkin would sprint, but, as a defender, is unable to do so on enemy ground. Nerre waits patiently while Hides Cloth stands up.

Tumbles Down a Hill advances... right into a tackle from Stands Firm!
► Show Spoiler
Tumbles escapes easily, earning 1 XP and a point for the red team.

Score: 18 to 14!

Image

Tumbles Down a Hill makes it to the blue team's home column while Stands Firm stands up, Nerre guards, and Hides Cloth tackles the empty B3. Above them, CarvesAPumpkin gets a little closer to the flag.

The guarding Boar Slayer looks on as Has No Name and Yells At Others tackle each other in C6 with Pats Dragons cheering his teammate on.
► Show Spoiler
Yells pins No Name. He gets 1XP for winning the tussle, 1XP for sending No Name back to his side of the field, and a point for the red team. No Name must respawn.

Score: 18 to 15!

Righteous Charger completes his sprint with Bomb Diggety right beside him. But what's this? Dreamer tackles!
► Show Spoiler
Amazingly, Bomb Diggety manages to avoid the tackle, earning 1 xp and a point for the blue team.

Score: 19 to 15!

The blue team is now two points from victory, but the red team has a chance of grabbing the flag. Next turn could decide it all...

Image

Hides Cloth has -1 to tussles next turn for his missed tackle. Bomb Diggety has -1 to tussles for having sprinted. Bomb Diggety and Righteous Charger cannot sprint again for two more turns.

Where's it say that? You get XP for assisting in a flag capture, but I don't see anything about assisting in a tussle.

Yeah I thought that earlier but couldn't find it in the rules again and thought I was crazy. Though now I looked again and its in the strategist section but not the experience section. (Note to moose: add it to the experience section too)

Edit for wears:
SeeAMoose wrote:Image- Strategist. Gets more avaliable skills. Has a special move: Cheer. Cheering gives +5% bonus to a teammate one square away. Should that player win a tussle, the strategist gains 1 exp.

Huh. I don't recall Mines Flags having gotten that XP. But okay, I'll add it in for Pats later today. Good catch, and thanks!

Also, as long as we're going over the rules...

Reminder: The game won't end if red is holding a blue flag.

In game one you did not cheer.

In mission 1, turn 25, Flags cheered me when I fought Yarzog, but it did not lead to a kill nor did I get XP.... Missions don't have tussles, so no XP to be gained that way...
In turn 19 you cheered a lost defence....

There may not have been some XP to have been gained that way until now....

Also, just for completeness: Tumbles vs Stands:
"Stands has a +2 tackle bonus and a +2 defender bonus. Tumbles has a +1 attacker bonus and a +1 improved dodge bonus. Stands wins on 1-11, Tumbles escapes on 12-20."
01-10 +4 (-2)
should make
Stands wins on 1-12, Tumbles escapes on 13-20.

Not that it matters.
Such a damn chance with the dice... :(
My vote for MVP stands....
(I may prefer the first game of team blue having the lower side of the dice and red the higher side, as this is the second time where my bonus was downed by a high roll... frustrating, feels like playing field-hockey vs. Victoria R'dam in the 90's...)

I noticed that but he actually just forgot to include the teamwork penalty. I almost said something earlier but I hate being that guy all the time.

It won't change anything this turn, but still for correctness sake....

I haven't looked up the actual numbers though, it may be that there is some other bonus playing....

Yeah, I redid that one a bit. I had included the crowding penalty, but then the roll said not to. So I adjusted the penalty, but I guess I didn't fix the math.

Mines didn't cheer in Game 1, but he was a strategist in his previous incarnation on the old boards. Which isn't to say he never got XP that way. It's been a while. But I don't remember it happening. Whatever. Moot now.
