I would rather give them to somebody who does not have to stay in the front to fight, for example Soul or Dodger. With Worf and Licks mostly up front, I don't think they are the best choice.

I spend the most time away from the party exploring and removing traps though, and in a fight I'm best if I go unnoticed and sneak to the back to 1-hit crit one of the enemies from behind. Soul should get the seeds. Makes him are utilitarian magic user (Get all the magics!)

Ok, I can get them. Though I already have a healing spell (sorta) but whatever.

Soul heads forward with Sees and Worf.

Turn 58

Image

Licks asks Dala about the other doors, to which she replies:
"I'm not sure dearie, we never go down to the bottom layer, too many nasty things down there. I've never been curious, as I said, time is funny like that around here."

He then moves into the first open door.

"AHAH! Hello bold Gethan! I haven't clapped eyes on a hobgoblin in many a year! Or was it hours? Come in, come in, I won't be long!"

The old gnome has a high pitched, squeaky voice, and kicks his feet in the air excitedly at the prospect of fresh conversation.

Image

Dodger checks for traps and hidden doors. Because what we need now is more doors ;) . Regardless, he doesn't find anything, but he does note that the top middle, and bottom far left and left doors are tightly sealed and locked.

Image

Sees, Soul, and Worf head into the second door on this floor. They find a large cauldron filled with bubbling water, sat over smouldering embers. Soul also takes the [Healing Seeds] from Sees, and pushes them onto his palms. He gains [Lay on Hands: Heal up to 2 points of damage as a free action. One use per combat.]

Soul tries to identify the thing in the cauldron by smelling and looking, trying to see if he remembers anything about whatever it is. If he can't remember a thing he will take just a drop of the potion and taste it.

"This looks like it belongs to her. We should get to another room." Sees suggest. He goes down the ladder and opens the first door he reaches. Same as last time: Encounter possible enemies, loot chests, shelfs and so on.

vote on Worf going with him.

"Hi there. I'm Licks Frost. We are on a quest to find a cure for our sick clan teller. I don't suppose your time studies and possibly altering abilities could be made to work on him, to turn back his time until a date where he isn't sick yet?" Licks talks a whole lot more than probably he has altogether in the last half year or so, and his tongue is protesting most painfully about having to form all these words, but changing the fate of his clan teller for the better is hopefully worth it. He also examines the contents of the room as much as he can from where he's standing and not touching anything either.

Starting from tomorrow (Wednesday) evening I will be gone for 3 weeks, holidays. I will be back on the 29th or 30th. Please put me on an auto mode, fighting, healing and exploring with the others if there is another update during this time. Looting armor and weapons of the kind he uses if possible, reading holy books and so on.

Turn 59

Image

Licks chats to Derris:

"Hi there. I'm Licks Frost. We are on a quest to find a cure for our sick clan teller. I don't suppose your time studies and possibly altering abilities could be made to work on him, to turn back his time until a date where he isn't sick yet?"

"Hoho, not so simple I'm afraid my big blue friend. I can only exert my control over time in this place because of the magical energy I draw from the rock beneath us, hmm, yes. Healing spells aren't my area either, before you ask. There's bound to be something down here that'll be useful though. Old as I am, I'll aid you however I can, young un', hmm ho yes. Gethans always have been a friendly people. This might help. I found it when we arrived here in a few years time."

A chronologically sketchy Derris hands Licks an [Eagle shaped key].

Image

Soul samples a dab of the potion, noting its full-bodied aroma and oaky finish1. The swirling rainbow patterns on its surface show him that whatever it is, it isn't finished; at the moment it's just water with a few unidentifiable powders thrown in. He'd need a precise recipe to make anything useful.

Image

"Waheeeeeee!"

Sees, Worf and a stealthy Dodger come across an odd sight through the door: three small leafy-haired creatures are cartwheeling and cavorting around, and subsequently destroying, a room filled with pricy looking antiques. One has obviously broken into a crate full of valuables, but as it does there is a shower of blue sparks and it leaps away, a ghostly (and slightly gnomish) laughter ringing around the room.

"Coooool! New peoples ta play wiv!" another one shouts, noticing the entering Gethans.

Soul moves to the room with the others.

"What are these things?" he asks. If any of them attacks the group he casts Thundershock on them.

Licks accepts the key graciously, thanks Derris for it and asks for a tour of the lovely gnome's home/study, if Derris can be bothered with that. If not, he'll just examine the gear in the lab as much as he can without touching it, and exits the room again. If Derris is up for the tour, he'll follow him and listen to what he has to say. In any case, he'll ask Derris where the eagle shaped key belongs to, before parting with the gnome.

"What you mean with play? We are no toys." Sees says.
If the plant-gnomes attack, Sees will try to shield his team and fight back, so Whorf and Dodger can focus on attacking it. If anybody is hurt, he heals him.

"Ahh, sorry young un', my old legs aren't what they will be. That there key'll go in a lock you'll find on the bottom floor of this level. Tis' a nasty feelin ya get down there, to be sure, hmm yes."

Licks then leaves Derris to his devices and steps out into the corridor.

Image

Down in the lower room, things are a tad chaotic. The tiny beings hop about in a rage before settling down with a mischievous glint in their eyes.

"Worra ya mean ya don't wanna play? Fine, me wantsa prezzink! Gimme sumfing flat, or I'll squash you!"

"OOH, me too! Gimme sumfing hard, or I'll bash ya!"

"Me too! Me too! Gimme sumfing dead, or I'll kills ya!"

Bewildering doesn't cover it.

Finally, BING!

Dodger steps out of the shadows."Oh, is that all, well then here ya go." He tosses three golden discs to them. "One for each of ya. They are flat, hard, and since they are not alive they must be dead."

"I don't think the disks can be considered dead, since they were never alive. I would give them the snake meat if Licks wouldn't mind giving some of it..."

"Since when is meat considered hard, Soul?" Sees asks and adds with a smile "I know some people are very bad cooks though..."

If they are satisfied with the gold:
Sees tries if he can walk closer to the bookshelf, looking for white books. If yes he reads one, if not he prepares himself to defend against the plant-beings.

If not:
Sees takes the white book he already read and learned and offers it to them "Flat, hard and the paper was once a plant, the leather part of an animal, the glue and the string are made from animals or plants as well, so you can considere it dead. Do you want us to solve riddles?"
"A piece of bone would also solve it if it is flat enough and not brittle yet. Piece of a skull maybe. Or a scale from an animal cara...wait" he turns to the plant-beings "even my shield counts as flat-hard-dead!"

Licks examines the doors on the lowest floor for one with an eagle shaped lock. If there is a fight starting in the room with the plantlings, he'll get in there and smack one of them with axe and rat fang (un-equipping the shield). If there is no fight and he finds the right door, he'll unlock it, and open it and take a peek into the room behind.

Turn 61

Image

There's not a lot of space to move in the cramped room, so not wanting to provoke the funny little beings, the party hangs back in the doorway.

"Pshah, not be wantin' gold, know whera get plenty of dat. No' shields neither, too big for us." The impish creature looks at the party conspiratorially. "Tells ya what, yous give us each a prezzink, an' we'll tells you some secrets, yiss?"

The first of the three sees Sees offer up the blank Book o' Tricks, and scampers over eagerly, tearing a page out.

"That's flat alright! Ok, a secret! Dat mad ole wizard comes out often to get stuff to put in his big cauldron, if you find jars of stuff lyin' round you could make potions like he does."

The little being then scuttles off to a corner of the room and plays with his new toy, ignoring the team and his friends completely.

Image

Licks, realising that the locked doors must be down the ladder, opens the door to the right and steps just inside. A horrible smell of decayed flesh lingers in the room, and an eerie buzzing comes from two glinting metal pylons that are arcing bolts of lightning to a large copper ring in the centre of the wall. The poor victim of whatever cruel experiment took place here was bled dry for some unknown purpose long ago, and coloured wires are driven deep into the bones. A pile of rags are heaped on the floor against the far wall.

"You mean the guy on this picture?" Sees asks pointing up. "Where does he come from, does he live here? Is he a friend of yours?"
He looks at the broken crate. "If you do not want gold, I might be able to trade it for new toys for you if you allow me to take some of it. I know somebody not that far away who likes to trade it for other items. Is that okay for you?"
Then, being curious about the huge book rack, he asks "Do those books belong to the mage or are they yours?" He really hopes they might be allowed to check it for books. "Would you mind if I take a look at it? I won't take anything away."
