Thought it would fun to have an outlet for a bunch of movie threads similar to the Goblin's Bookclub so I started this thread out to see how much interest there is (as well as to talk about movies).

I love movies. Like literature, cinema not only tells the story on the screen but influences from current affairs speaks to events going on in the world as well. The different mediums and tools used to create movies and tell stories- laughing, crying, screaming - it's just amazing what the world comes up with.

What's your favorite movie, genre, actor/actress, director, screen writer, composer etc. Talk about it all here!

I personally love old time action flicks. By old time I emphasize on the lack of CG and more of stunts, stunt men, and special effects. "Bullit" with Steve McQueen, "Die Hard" starring Bruce Willis, and "Legend of the Drunken Master" featuring Jackie Chan are some of my favorites!

LotR is my favorite overall, same as with books. But Die Hard is my favorite Christmas movie.

I actually loved everything about it except the way they kind of downgraded Faramir. I never liked Tom Bombadil, so I didn't miss him at all. And Boromir... holy crap I hated him in the books, and I cry every time he dies in the movies. Yay Sean Bean! But Faramir just seemed so much less awesome. It was sort of depressing.

The best movie is Princess Bride. My other favorites include LOTRO and Independence Day.

Question4THunt, a user on the old forum, actualy made videos of the beheind the scenes D&D game that was 'causing' the stuff in the comic to happen. Good stuff. Last I saw he built a Kin costume, but I did not see it in a video yet. Viedos were posted to youtube. Someone might have a link. I think he entered one in one of the fan contest THunt ran as well, so it might be there in either the blog or fanart sections.

The couple of Sharpe's episodes I saw were good. The stories come from books.
3 rounds a minute, trained, rifle fire, if you will stand and do your job! A lot revolves around that. Napoleonic era, IIRC.

They're relatively low budget TV movies, following the adventures of a company of British riflemen in the Napoleonic wars. They're not high art, and are pretty formulaic, but I'd say still twenty hours of fun entertainment. I hadn't realized why Bean was familiar to me until now.

Anyway, any plots I really remember are a new commanding general giving Sharpe and his riflemen the business in the stereotypically British officer head-up-butt manner over their green jackets and not being able to fire and reload as fast as the smooth-bore guns, and another episode (er, movie, but with a dozen or more of them they're more like episodes) with them being chosen as the Forlorn Hope. Oh, and I vaguely remember someone having troubles with his "wife" in the camp followers.

As I said, I'd call them fun.

Cherry 2000! Awesome, just watched that a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks for reminding me of Tank Girl. I wonder if it's as awesome as I remember...I sure loved the soundtrack.

I went with this list because all of these blew my mind the first time I saw them. After viewing too many times, their allure has faded now.

hmmn, my favourite movies may be influenced heavily by the music,

Peter Greenways' "The Cook, the Theif, his wife, her lover" is still nb 1 (though also having a R rating? art house)
