Also Nerre, it has also been mentioned by a few people that the mouse chef at the inn will take corpses in exhange for healing potions, so you may want to do that too. I'm sure you overlooked that too :)
Hi

I did not overlook the mouse chef part. I posted it and Remedy even asked if you also accepts parts of corpses, cause she only got 1 corpse. I roleplayed her to gather parts for voodoo reagence items, so she did not pick up full corpses.

Okay, then the fangs and the rapier go into the combination cube. (the yellow ones, electricity)
Sorry, somehow messed up fangs and glands in my mind and glands is the stuff which contains the poison, which is why I ended up thinking the magic is within the poison...maybe it was a bit late. :paranoia:

But first I would like to test it with the other fangs, the orange ones, and the iron sword +1 ATK... just to see what the cube makes out of them.
The rapier will go in after that if I like the result. :)

Ignore armor in D&D normally means what you wrote above. It bypasses armor.

Remedy thanks All for standing a round of identifying.

@nerre: just a warning, but counting on the combo cube to work the same way twice might not be the best plan...

All turns over an additional 2 gp to the bard and asks Zannin to hand off the sphere to Dashon for identification, and the old man does so reluctantly.

Dashon confirms what the other goblins and old wizard were able to tell just by holding it, that it was an item that could be used to inflict damage on an enemy, but is able to discern more of the particulars.

Orb of Eldritch Flame: Can be activated as a major action to deal 1d3 damage as an Eldritch Blast that ignores DEF. Attempts to heal eldritch wounds have a 25% chance to fail per HP. Cooldown of 2 Turns. Each use decreases durability (eg, it has a finite number of 'charges').

This game still isn't D&D in any way shape or form. Spider even just said "don't think about D&D veterans opinions, since he made these things up." And even if it was...I am one of those D&D veterans anyway. I know how D&D works, if this was D&D I wouldn't be asking for clarification on a touch attack

Some GM's have defined DEF and armor differently... for example, there is an item somewhere that bypasses armor, but not the innate DEF +1 that all goblins have. I intended the item to deal 1 additional damage regardless of of the target's DEF score (whether due to innate defense or armor).

While some inspiration may be drawn from D&D, don't rely on that for rules here. ;)

Flavor-wise, the gloves's runes pulse and add concussive force to any bludgeoning attack, the 1 DAM that ignores armor represents a blow so powerful that it is felt even under armor. All is rarely hampered much by armor with her Echo Mace, but if she were going up against a tank in full plate, such that his DEF exceeded her ability to deal damage with the Mace, the gloves would provide extra oomph for her to strike him hard enough to hurt.

I would also point out that since part of the point in the GAL is to try and devise different mechanics, your items may not work the same way in two different quests. I would expect DMs to try and honour the original design of your gear, but some goings just will not translate over exactly as written. I would recommend not getting too hung up on how things work right now and just ask your next GM for a ruling on anything unusual before you go.

That's not to say questions like nikohl's aren't worth asking - they definitely are because they make the designer's intentions explicit. But they're more like guidelines for the next gm and you should treat them that way.

Okay, I understood. But please do the first try for the combo cube. I posted it two times already and I'm very curious about the outcome. I haven't tried it once yet cause I only had 3 items, so I would like to see what it does. :)

First test of the cube: Iron sword + orange prismatic snake fangs (the ones with acid).

You should probably post a 4th and 5th time, maybe then Thinks will take time out of uprooting her like in the UK, moving to Florida and getting settled there to make a combo cube roll for you.

Haven't forgotten, just haven't had time nerre. Sorry! Pretty much all my free time right now is being taken up either with working, apartment-hunting, driving around in shitty traffic or recuperating from the above. I promise I'll get onto all of this, but it won't be this week :)

It's a 2 year contract, so we'll be kicked out at the end of it unless the contract gets extended (which it could well do). I think we've maybe got a place to live sorted out though so if we get it and can move in this week, it should juts be a case of getting Internet hooked up again and we should be ready to roll with all the games stuff again :) No idea how long that usually takes out here, but one thing at a time!

Hey folks! Apologies for the radio silence, I'm still not online at home yet and it's doing my tits in. Anyway, I have an installation date for next Friday (19th) so all being well I will be able to update the HQ over the following weekend.

While we're on this topic, do we have any GMs waiting in the wings who want to run a mini-adventure? If not, I'll pull something together for you myself (probably for 6 or so players).

Re: The Goblin Adventurer's League (A WILD UPDATE APPEARS!)

Post by thinkslogically » Sat Feb 20, 2016 5:21 pm

A Wild Update Appears!

Image

Gradually, one group at a time, the goblins return from their various adventures and head back to GAL headquarters and spend a very pleasant evening sharing stories about their quests and comparing battle scars. Dashon makes the most of his last evening in HQ with rousing renditions of some of his new works, written in honour of the GAL goblins' escapades (along with a promise to share his songs with anyone he meets after he parts ways with the GAL. Even Savage takes time out of his busy schedule to join the group for a flagon of ale while the dragon snores loudly in the back of the kitchen. Two newcomers arrive to offer their services to the League: Zannin (an old man who can ID items), and Mantagar Ironhorn (a Minotaur Blacksmith). Mantagar also brings with him a young "Big Paw" (that I'm not going to try and draw right now, because this update has already taken hours!) and a female gnome druid, dressed only in spider silk.

[NB: This is a little bit of fluff just so's you guys can see what your sprites currently look like now you've accumulated a bit more gear and have a few more cool things under your belts! I don't show weapons or shields though, cos it takes up way too much room. If you don't like something just give me a shout.]

While they celebrate, two new goblins arrive to join the crowd. Holds-A-Hat and Temporal Anomaly Phenomenon (TAP) are warmly welcomed in with a free mug of ale and more than a few tall tales from the bartender (and others).

*Teeeheeehhee* Hey new guy! *teee* I'm Laughs Creepily, who are you?
"That is something that I am not even sure of. But the teller that found me called me Temporal Anomaly Phenomenon. Or TAP."
"*teee* Speaking of what's on tap... TAP.. *heheheh* Do you want a beer? Hey, Robert! *teeeheheheeeeeeee*"
"sure, why not. Though I think you may had a few too many. What do you have?"
"Heysles. I'm Holds-A-Hat. So, TAP, what're you trying to do 'round here. Me, well honestly I'm just trying to do something interesting with my name."
Hey everybody guess who is back !, he hops up onto a barstool , and pull out another three for the minotaur to sit on
A cider for me please ! something strong for the big guy and something meaty for the dog as he puts some coins on the bar so what you all been up to ?

"More or less the same. Only to find out what I am, and my destiny.

"We've got a few pints of ale left from what got brought back from the trolls, Ben brought us some premium dwarven stout and some ciders from the Broadwood. If you don't care about your eyesight, a bunch of orcs left a batch of moonshine here about 7 years ago but it's so far melted every container I've tried to pour it into. I don't know what the hell they make their barrels out of down south but their booze is potent. Also, my name ain't Robert, Laughs! He's over there, I'm just the bartender."

"I'm good. I'm Holds-A-Hat. TAP and I were wondering... we're new and we don't have any equipment, do you guys have any you could spare us? If not, who should we buy it from?"

"Home, sweet home! Finally. Nothing beats coming home except a hot shower and fresh clothes. Hey everybody! Oh, and new faces. Hello you two!"
""*Teehehehe* Hey Remedy, how'd your quest go? *teee* Some of us went on a quest while you were gone, I kicked the crap out of a goblin in some sort of fiiii.... never mind. *Teeeheheheee* The first rule is I can't talk about it... but then I scared some nasty spiders that wanted to eat us. *heeee* Things kind of got boring for a while there, then a portal opened and dumped us back here. It was a weird quest. *heeee*""
"Spiders? We met some too, but they were friendly in the end. I wish we had a portal. We had to walk all the way."

"Well Holds-a-Hat, we've got Dash on the bard here for a little while longer. If you need anything identified, or fancy a short-term stats buff he's your fellow. Ben is a dwarven trader with a few items for sale. I think he's packing up at the moment though, so better be quick if you want to catch him. Otherwise, we've got Ralf if you want something crafted and have some materials. He's got a few basics though if not. Round the back we've also got some sort of rodent calling himself a "chef". If you trade him a corpse, you'll get a potion in exchange. It's weird, and no one's tested the longterm health issues of his stuff, but it seems decent enough for a quick fix. Finally, there's the bar. You want a drink, you just let me know. Everything's currently at the special price of 1gp per drink because it's happy hour"
"Any corpse? Even one of a mouse?"

Remedy offers a swamp hopper shield to anyone who wants it and it is quickly taken by Hold.

"Hey I'll take that! Thanks for offering. What's your name? I'm Holds-A-Hat."
"I am Remedy. Remedies-the-pain."
"That's a nice name, simple and to-the-point. I'm pretty jealous actually. 'Holds-A-Hat' is pretty dull compared of that."
"Thanks. Your name is not that bad, but I agree, it does not say much about your fate. And why 'hold' and not 'wears'. Haha - you could get a hat tatoo for the inside of one of your hands. Then you would hold a hat all the time."
"And mine is odder than his. Temporal Anomaly Phenomenon, or TAP."

"Greetings new comers, I hope you found the place ok. Getting cloudier and colder for this time of year but we could do with some fresh blood, the last two missions i've had have been a bust and I hope something new comes along soon. Still Welcome, I'm Forges"

Dashon joins the conversation:
"Well hello there, Glad to see people are making back from their quests and some new faces too. Your just in time fellow goblins for one last chance for me to identify your items or give you a boost to you next quest a i really must be off to the Fountain of Mud Honey and see what mysteries it truly has for me. If one of you who has been there already will finally draw me a map or guide me there I'd be grateful."

....

The next morning, Steals draws a rough map so Dashon can find the Fountain of Mudhoney in the forest and gets his Health Blessing for free as a thank you!. Some of the others also make one last use of Dashon and Ben's presence to trade, before the pair head off into the wilds to continue their business elsewhere. All offers to escort Dashon to the Fountain if he needs an escort, but he politely declines since he'll be travelling most of the way with Ben.

All reports back to Savage on what happened in the woods. His face darkens as she talks, and by the time she's finished telling her story, even the dragon is looking slightly nervous.

"Regardless of your intentions, the simple fact is that you broke our contract with one of the most wealthy and powerful merchants in the kingdom. Gods DAMN it!"

With that, Savage turns on his heel and storms into his back office, leaving a rather awkward silence behind...

Remedy puts her gladius into the Combi-Cube along with the poison fangs from the orange prismatic snake. The cube whirs and clunks and eventually bonks out a "17". Remedy opens the cube and finds she has produced a Corroded Sword (+ 0). Damn.

Image

Leaves puts a Dagger in the combo cube along with Prismatic Green Snake Fangs. The box whizzes and boops onto a "54". Opening the box, he retrieves a Poison Dagger: +1 ATT, 25% chance to poison an enemy. Then, he heads outside to plant and water a walnut [let me know where you want to plant the nut and exactly what you want to water it with and we'll see what happens] and play with Arnold, who is beside himself with joy that he's finally getting some attention!

Image

All, Steals, Leaves and Remedy go to the Mouse Chef and offer various bug corpses in exchange for potions.

"Wellll.... the partial corpses are no good to me. They don't have enough nutrients left to grow my seeds. I'll take the whole ones though. Same deal as before - if you want to take a healing potion now, I'll give you one per corpse. Two for that big dog-thing. If you want to see what I can make with whatever grows out of these corpses, you can trade for a mystery potion later. Also, you can keep your plants and 'shrooms. They're no good to me either. So, what'll it be?

The goblins make their choice.

Remedy speaks to Ben and requests prices for virtually everything she owns.

"Here's the best I can do. You want my advice, give the clothes to your tailor over there or burn them. There's no great market in dead men's clothes. I'm going to pretend you didn't try and sell me soiled underpants, but you might want to remember that that's the sort of thing a man could take offence to, goblin."

Leaves plants the walnut and the acorn one on each side of the path leading to the inn (probably out of shot) approx 10 feet apart so if when grown they wouldn't interfere too much with each other but the path would wind its way between the two. He waters them with water from the fountain, using an empty flagon from the bar that he returns afterward.

Forges feels like his ear is relapsing back into its wooden state (main picture needs a small altering as I healed it ) goes outside a peruses of the new goods the traders have, Looking at the Minotaur stuff first... bone weapon, bone weapon, bone weapon, wood, bone, stone weapon, nothing there he wants maybe change to black leather....nah his jerkins ok, seeing nothing he like he moves onto the gnomes stuff.

Now here is some interesting bits and wow That Massive Iron Bound Wooden Club would certainly be a killer shame on it being way to big and expensive... A bow would be useful to many things recently that we couldn't reach... ooh and scale mail...he checks his money bag...only 6 gp... sighing he puts it back down.
Best he could buy is some boots, which after all this adventuring is a luxury but as he can't afford anything else he hands over the one gold and buys some leather boots.

Heading back inside he goes to find savage...

"Hey Boss, I'm going to head out for a little if there's a mission, i'll be back soon I hope."

Forges decides to rush off after Dashon and Ben group as he wants to head to the fountain of Mud Honey and see if he can get a niffy ability like the others did and he can then get a sample to take to the swamp Witch as she was interested in a sample.
