The rolling mountains twenty treasures.
Roll20.net DnD game
Sign up page

So far, there are three Players:
Thinks, Spider and Asks.

Room for one or two more

Now with 5 players:
Asks, Spider, Theis, Thinks and Quarg
► Show Spoiler
Here is how I was thinking we would do things:

For now, and until we start the game we will talk about the world and your characters here on the forum.

When the game starts we will use the forum between the two sessions to keep a log and to talk about the game if we feel like it.
For characters wrote: You may choose to either make your own with the standard stats:
8-10-12-14-14-16
The 6 times 4d6 drop lowest
or 7 times 4d6, drop lowest, keep order*
Add race modifiers after.
Anything from the PHB is allowed.

Or you may choose from the DnD starter campaign premade characters:
http://media.wizards.com/downloads/dnd/ ... acters.pdf
please ignore the premade characters motivation for the adventure

*For the 7 times 4d6. Say you roll 8, 14, 12, 6, 16, 18, 13
In that case your stats will be STR 8, DEX 14, CON 12, INT 16, WIS 18, CHA 13 (so you cannot change the order, they fall as you roll them. ThatÔÇÖs the price for above avg stats)
The world and misson wrote: The world is much your typical DnD fearun world, with the following exceptions:
Humans and ÔÇ£wildÔÇØ races are by far the most numerous, and humans uphold the law of birthplace (you are not allowed to move away from your birth region without written permission from your local lord or higher authority)
As such, many people are ignorant of the outside world and believe in wild tales made by merchants and travelers. People react to this with various versions of fear, suspicion and curiosity.
Some smaller communities event thing magic and elves are just fairytales and nothing more

The mission, you have all been hired as an escort for a local lord, this lord is not rich, as he believes that the peopleÔÇÖs money and earnings are theirs to keep, as such he only taxes what he must to pay the local militia and the king his part, even going without a personal guard, only hiring when he needs to.
This is one of the times he needs to, and you believe he should have done so sooner. When the game starts the lord will be late for the appointed meetup place.

You were supposed to meet him in Eelsbridge, a small fishing town only a few hours from his minor keep, and escort him to a extraordinary summon by the king.
That was supposed to be at first light, and it is now high noon.
The area between his keep and Eelsbridge is known to be calm, peaceful and trouble free, hence why he wanted to meet you guys here.

Aside from your starting gear youÔÇÖll also have the following, pre paid by the lord:
► Show Spoiler
*EDIT:
So, i'm not at my drawing pc, so here is a hand drawn local map:

The Lord comes from Rakals keep, should meet with you at Eelsbridge.
Then the plan was to get to Lakeseye, sleep there.
Move to Willowshill, rest under the way and when you got there.
On to Coinsgate, Hallfarm and lastly arrive at the kings city, the City of wind on the evening of the fifth day, leaving four days before returning to Rakels keep by the same route.
Of course.. that was the plan...

Ooo, I like the roll down the line for making quick characters. That's how I ran the one shot I GM'd for our RL group a month or two back.

Spiders: 4D6.HIGH(3) = [2, 5, 3, 3] = 11
4D6.HIGH(3) = [3, 1, 6, 4] = 13
4D6.HIGH(3) = [5, 5, 4, 3] = 14
4D6.HIGH(3) = [1, 6, 3, 4] = 13
4D6.HIGH(3) = [1, 4, 1, 2] = 7
4D6.HIGH(3) = [6, 6, 4, 3] = 16
4D6.HIGH(3) = [1, 2, 1, 4] = 7

Sooo... I have the option of which 7 to drop?

Either
STR 11
DEX 13
CON 14
INT 13
WIS 7
CHA 16

or

STR 11
DEX 13
CON 14
INT 13
WIS 16
CHA 7

He, indeed a jack of all trades.
Seems like stable stats, nothing out of the way and close to the 72 points dnd 5e standard stats :)

Imarial Liasphol, High Elf, Cleric: Knowledge, Sage

STR 11
DEX 13 +2 = 15
CON 14
INT 13 +1 = 14
WIS 16
CHA 7

Skill Proficiencies: History, Investigation, Insight, Medicine, Perception. Double Proficiency on Arcana and Religion.

Cantrips: Prestidigitation, Sacred Flame, Guidance, Mending

Languages Known: Common, Elvish, Draconic, Dwarvish, Gnomish, Celestial, Sylvan

Equipment: May I use the class gold variant? I'm not going to be a mace and shield type cleric... If so, I rolled like rubbish. Or if I stay with the starting kit, a chance to sell off stuff I'm not going to use?

Sage: Librarian

-Personality traits: I've read every book in the world's greatest libraries, or like to boast that I have. I'm convinced that people are always trying to steal my secrets.
-Ideals: Nothing should fetter the infinite possibility inherent in all existence.
-Bonds: I've been searching my whole life for the answer to a certain question.
-Flaws: Unlocking an ancient mystery is worth the price of a civilization.

Gold variant? not sure what you mean, but if its a standard from the PHB, feel free to do so.
Or as you said, sell your starting equipment one for one

Also, I added a hand drawn map to the intro post... it will be made better when I'm at my drawing computer...
Feel free to pick and choose among the unnamed cities, towns and so on, name it and say thats where you are from. or ask questions, i have lots of filler info :)
quick explanation of markers:
circle = town/village of importance
triangle = regional lords seat of power
square = strong fortification
star = national seat of power
red lines = nation border
red dotted line = regional borders.

Well, yes ish...
No evil characters, and you must be cooperative to each other, and to the mission, the original one at least...
So no Dylan like characters...

Or as you said, sell your starting equipment one for one.
It's an option where instead of taking all of the starting equipment, you can roll the dice and get a starting gold value and essentially 'purchase' your starting gear.

If you're ok with it, I'd like to swap out:

Mace 5gp
Scale 50gp
Xbow 25gp
bolts 1gp
Total 81gp

for

Hide 10gp
S. Sword 10gp
L. bow 50gp
Arrows 1 gp
Total 71gp

Such a swap isn't in the rules per say... so I'm fine if you decline it.

so will this go ahead if it ends up just being the 2 of us playing?

ps. not going to lie, I'm struggling with this stats array. hmmm... might ditch the bard idea and go for a melee class and max out dex? what is your character plan spider? Are you going to be a tank or take a more ranged approach?

LAYF: Are you allowing variant humans or just the standard type?

@Spider, yep, that is fine, as long as it's the standard prices. I'd also like to mention that the switch also leaves you with 10 gp extra starting gold.

@Thinks, as for human variant, yes as long as it's only the option from the PHB and not an expansion it's fine :)
-As for stats, you are welcome to try the other states options (same for you spider) and see if they fit better.
-Lastly, about playing, yes I expect to run this game even with two players if you guys want to... That said, I know Ask is also with us, just preoccupied by the time zones and another project yesterday. (spoke to him by Messenger)
Also, I'll still alow one to two more players, if anyone is up for it.

So I'm jumping in at the last minute not sure what I'm going to play but a tanky fighter type seems to be the most optimal with these stats. Do we know what Asks will play?

Ability scores:4D6.HIGH(3) = [5, 3, 2, 5] = 13
4D6.HIGH(3) = [4, 3, 3, 6] = 13
4D6.HIGH(3) = [5, 3, 6, 5] = 16
4D6.HIGH(3) = [4, 3, 1, 6] = 13
4D6.HIGH(3) = [1, 3, 4, 2] = 9
4D6.HIGH(3) = [3, 3, 3, 4] = 10

str 13
dex 13
con 16
int 13
wis 9
charisma 10

Nope, not from asks here yet.

I think I'll stick with bard anyway so you guys can plan for that :) Don't have to decide the type of bard until L3 anyway so I'll worry about that / multiclassing some other time.

Cool, that brings us up to four players.

And not 100% sure, but I think Ask was also considering a fighter type... not sure

Edit:
Thats what i get for opening a reply window and just letting it hang there

There is also the option of Ranger if you wish something not as "generic" as the fighter. or barbarian... or if you feel a bit more adventurous, here is the Class list and race list. Feel free to ask any questions you need to:

Also, i just noted Quarg signed up if he can find the time. that brings us to a total of 5 players, that's a full party and I'll close the signups here.
Looking forward to see what you choose Quarg (And final choices Theis and Ask)
Also note, if you are dissatisfied by the stats points you get by the roll, you are welcome to try one of the other methods :)

Not the typical heal/fight cleric, more of a surly bookish know-it-all (Knowledge Domain). I tend to build characters to one extreme or the other, in this case it's being able to speak and read 7 languages, a skill monkey at INT and WIS skills (Arcana, History, Investigation, Religion, Insight, Medicine and Perception are all ones with proficiency), and know everything about Arcana and Religion (double proficiency from domain, so +6 to both currently). Shit at interacting with people (-2 CHA).

First move in combat will be longbow, with some spell support, shield and shortsword as last resort.

As for what brings me out on a glorified escort mission? Probably something along the lines of traveling from one library to another for my research, so hiring on as protection in turn gives me protection.

OK, I'm going to make the bard work dammit!

My PC will be:

Elara Silvertongue: Half-Elf, Bard, Criminal (Spy).

My stats are perfectly rounded out and come to:

STR : 13
DEX: 14
CON: 14
INT : 14 (+1)
WIS: 10 (+1)
CHA: 14 (+2)

Proficiencies: Acrobatics, Stealth, Insight, Perception, Deception, Performance, Persuasion.

Cantrips: Mage Hand, Minor illusion
L1 spells: Charm person, illusory script, Faerie fire, Sleep.

Criminal Contact: She works for the spymaster in [local court X]

Trait: I am always calm, no matter the circumstances. I never raise my voice or let my emotions control me.

Ideal: People. I am loyal to my friends and everyone else can take a trip up the Styx for all I care (in this case, she's fiercely loyal to her master)

Bond: I am trying to pay off a debt (raised in Court X when she could have been turned out on the streets.)

Flaw: An innocent person is in jail for a crime I committed. I'm OK with that. (Framing enemies of the court is something she considers a normal part of her job. She is loyal to a fault).

The idea is that she's a court spy (criminal bg variant), who uses her bardic abilities as cover to bring news of the lands to courts and commoners (and pick up anything extra on the way) and to travel a little more freely than most. She isn't amazing at anything, but is decently competent at everything.

Exactly. Finding the right flavour of bardic job was the tricky part, but evened-out stats like those are just screaming out to build a bard! The half-elf just smooths it out even nicer :)
