Varsk stands looking at Mehr, the last two by the water.

"Your group is goin' to get itself killed." Then mutters to himself, "and me in the process."

He moves to follow the rest of the group as he doubts he'd survive a day here alone.

"You comin'?"

Varsk will look at the ground for tracks that would help indicate the size and species of whatever they are following but can't make out much since the others walked here first.

Varsk follows the rest of the group into the forest, startling the vultures and starting them squawking loudly and hopping around the carcass. Once he reaches the patch of bones that Syli's led them to he looks around the area a bit. Amongst the old bones, he spots a couple of other partial carcass bits that look like they were recently dragged here. Broken weapons and torn leather and hide armor lie scattered in the mud. The smell of death hangs heavily in the air. This is not a good place.

A bubble bursts, disturbing the surface of the stagnant pond.

Per, nature: 1D20+1 = [2]+1 = 3
1D20-1 = [5]-1 = 4

Gwen has no idea what they are looking for or what this is sbout. She hangs around Merhiv, cautious about the bones under their feet.

I start backing up... Having almost been eaten once today, I'm not keen on making it twice...

The pond looks stagnant and opaque. If ever there was a pond that just exuded the phrase "Not Drinking Water", it's this pond.

Gwen is not happy about the bones and isn't sure why they've even followed them here in the first place...

Korrik blends into the shadows and begins to move quietly to the back of the group.

Somewhere ahead of you in the woods (in the direction of the pool) a branch snaps loudly.

You may each react to the noise with one action (and one action only).

Mehr faces in the direction of the noise, getting ready to cast a Ray of Frost should a threat show up.

Syli was a bit unsettled; this wasn't quite what she expected to find. At the snap, Syli readies her sling, moving to put the pond directly between her and the source of the noise.

Varsk pulls out his borrowed crossbow and scans and listens to the jungle and the pond. He will start backing out the way they came.

Korrik nopes out and bolts out of the area, heading back the way they came. Syli catches a glimpse of him leaving, but no-one else notices.

The others ready themselves and watch as a large, heavy lizard moves into view. Its long forked tongue tastes the air around it like a snake and a scrap of cloth hangs from its jaw. The creature's seems injured - deep, raw gashes from something's claws are visible down its flank and a chunk of flesh seems to be missing from its neck. It notices the party and pauses to regard them, blowing a grunting snort through its nostrils.

It looks something like this:

"Large" is a DND size term that is one larger that medium, so probably closer to elephant size. That image is the right kind of scale though (if you assume it's eating a medium humanoid).

Elephant is considered huge, but horses, bears, etc. are all considered large.

Kal takes a closer look at the creature.

Nature: 1D20+3 = [8]+3 = 11

"It looks injured. But it hasn't done anything threatening yet. Syli, can you talk to it? If not, I can try Draconic. There's a chance it might respond. Meantime, whatever attacked it might still be around. Keep a sharp eye out, everyone."

Varsk won't respond to Kal but will definitely keep an eye out for anything that could have done the damage to the large lizard on his slow, non-threatening way back to the river. Glancing at the mangled corpses around on the ground he strongly doubts this is a creature up for a conversation.

The lizard snorts loudly at the party again and paws at the ground. Kal thinks it looks like some kind of large, scavenging lizard but it's much bigger than anything he's seen before.

A second lizard stomps into view behind the first. This second one is slightly smaller than the first, but bears similar scars. It also snorts when it sees the group and bobs its head up and down, but neither makes any move to come closer as yet.
