I suggest Kal to be upfront. Gwen will be at the rear of the line as the rear guard and ranged blaster.

Also is a knife a finess weapon?

I'll be towards the front... Where I don't have to see Gwen making eyes at Mehr. ;)

Mehr can be around the middle of the party?

Think we're just waiting on Syli's action. Kal will take point and Gwen can bring up the rear. Darruk is useless right now because of temporary food poisoning, but can hang out at the back as well.

Syli, as one of the ones tracking, is at the front of the group. Presumably behind Kal, since he's taking point.

The party set off, following the tracks as best they can, with Syli and Kal in the lead. Following the tracks isn't too difficult at first, because the wet and muddy ground has preserved the paw prints quite well. Nonetheless, it is fairly rough going as you trudge over tussocks of long grass and scrub bushes and into the edge of an area of sparse forest and the trail gets lost amongst the scrub. The mosquitoes are almost enough to drive you mad, and you are extremely keen to find this trail again so you can keep going.

Darruk slumps heavily against the trunk of a small tree to quietly die (or possibly just feel sorry for himself). Just as he does so, he hears a loud hissing sound from above his head and six small reptilian creatures launch out of the tree and swoop at the rest of the party!

Initiative please!

Eyes on the ground, looking for tracks, I don't know we are being attacked until someone else shouts a warning...

Like Korrik, Syli's eyes are down, which leaves her a little slow on the draw.

So we have:

Mehriv
Gwen
Kal
Syli
Snakes!!
Korrik

The six brightly colored snakes swoop from their tree, gliding towards the party in a loose cluster.

They are all within ranged range of you, and are currently loosely centred around their home tree. Because they are fairly high off the ground at the moment, engaging in melee combat will not be possible unless / until they come lower.

((One can be brown, the others are prettier and come in a variety of shades of from bright green - red. There's a bit of a dearth of flying snake pictures online, but perhaps this one is morphing from male to female or just to adult and that explains the brown :) ))

Alright, well, Mehr will start by hitting the nearest with a Ray of Frost. If I remember correctly, it's 1d20+CHA to hit with sorcerer spells?

Ray of Frost: 22 to-hit, 4 Damage, and -10' from its speed until my next turn.

If I got the to-hit roll wrong and it doesn't add charisma, it's 19.

It's 1d20 plus your spell attack modifier, which is. proficiency bonus + spellcasting ability (CHA) modifier, so add 2 proficiency to your prior total (24 to hit).

(You also get to add your proficiency bonus, so it's 1d20 + CHA mod + prof, but that's a solid hit regardless :) ... and ninja'd by Spider!))

The ray of frost slams into one of the closest snakes. It doesn't kill it, but the creature is badly hurt by the blast.

Gwen is up!

Gwen casts hex on the injured snake ( for uhhh dex i guess) and elrish blast it

Eldrich blast and hex: 1D20+6 = [8]+6 = 14
1D10 = [10] = 10
1D6 = [1] = 1

(You also get to add your +2 proficiency bonus on that attack roll just so's you know)

The snake is caught in the powerful blast, where it seems to freeze for a moment before imploding into a tiny sphere of darkness.

Kal draws out his shortbow and fires a shot at one of the snakes, but it veers suddenly to one side and his shot goes wide.

Syli is up.
